  1. It almost seems like this site is about 98% forum related material now. I miss the articles and stuff. But yeah, I can see how a 2 year old article on the front page is a deterrent for new folks for sure.
  2. Yeah, I've been waiting for Prometheus for.....a long time. Probably longer than since anyone thought it up.
  3. Finally went and saw Avengers. Didn't come away disappointed at all. A surprising amount of character development takes place, given that it's an ensemble flick, and a popcorn/action movie at that. With the Iron Man movies, and now the Avengers, they've shown that they really know what they're doing with the Marvel properties these days. Can't wait for Iron Man 3, and especially Avengers 2. Now, I can only hope that TDKR lives up to my lofty expectations.
  4. I really wanted to go to the Major League filming, but if I remember correctly, they taped late at night. I was still pre-high school, so staying up crazy late on school nights was out of the question. This is my third time as an extra. My first was in Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius, which came out in 2004. The filming was in 2003. I did three days on that one, filming several scenes. I am extremely visible in one scene where Malcolm McDowell and Brett Rice are talking in a country club restaurant. I'm a patron in the background - in the scene for a good minute or two. I'm in another scene as a law clerk with Brett Rice where I'm leaning against a file cabinet listening to him read the paper. There are a couple other scenes, but you literally have to go frame by frame to see me. That one was fun because it was set in the early 1900's, so we got to wear period clothing. I'm also an extra in What to Expect When You're Expecting, which is in theaters now. If you wouldn't know where to look for me, you wouldn't see me. I'm sitting in a park watching a movie a few minutes in. I also walk behind Jennifer Lopez later, but I'm out of focus (naturally, since I'm just background). I drove my car in that scene, too, but I forgot to look for it. Obviously, this "featured" role demolishes those. I'm still just an extra, though. We were there for the Major League filming during the day. They started out with the 'opening day' crowd, by having the few thousand of us that were there spread all around. Then they packed us all into each section, one at a time, so that they could make composite shots to make it look like the stadium was full. During the strikeout montage, they packed us all in behind the plate. That's the only time myself or my brother are on camera and recognizable, but like I said, it's for about 3/4's of a second. I'd say we were there for probably about 7-8 hours, all told.
  5. I'll one up you. During the Charlie Sheen strikeout montage when the Indians start winning during the original Major League, you can see myself and my little brother jump up and cheer during the strikeout of a Royals batter. We're on screen for all of about 3/4's of a second!
  6. Oh, that is it. I know that fluky injury stories have in the past been floated to cover up embarrassing accidents, but there is zero justification for that kind of backlash, no matter what happened. I'd better not cross paths with any of those "fans" ever. That kind of stuff makes me embarrassed to be a fan of the same team as those people. Salve yourself with the knowledge that there's fans like that of every team.
  7. I had Tommy John surgery on my right elbow 9 years ago, and I was out of work for 18 months. I wish I would have learned how to eat cereal, write, and wipe my butt left handed before I had it done, because after the fact, was kinda awkward. It's funny, when a pitcher has an elbow injury, we're all on here "just have the surgery", as if it's no big deal. When you come out of TJ surgery, you're basically a one-armed man for several weeks, and then the rehab is nothing short of brutal. My employer at the time (well, their insurance company) of 10 years, cut me a check for $2,200 for partial disability, and canned me, because I was now an 'injury risk'. That's a fine 'how do you do' if you ask me.
  8. Jackson had an OPS+ of 147 or higher 9 times. Konerko has done that once. (twice, if you're counting this year) Jackson led the AL in OPS+ 4 times. He's also a 5 time top 5 MVP finisher. B-R may see them as similar, but they're not all THAT similar.
  9. Was just wondering this the other day myself. Absolutely has to get to 500 homers, and even then, I think he doesn't make it. I think he's going to be Fred McGriff again, he's going to get 'very good'ed' out of the HoF. (Yet guys like Rice and Dawson are in). I think an .860-ish OPS for a first baseman in this day and age, compiled in a hitters park just isn't impressive enough to warrant serious hall consideration. To me, a guy is 'dominant' in a season in which he puts up either a 150 OPS+, or a 150 ERA+. If a guy does that for at least 5 years in his career, and puts up good counting numbers, he's usually going to get in the HOF. Then you have your defensive guys like Ozzie Smith and Bill Mazeroski, and then you have your 'milestone' guys, the 3,000 hits guys like Robin Yount, and Lou Brock. Konerko won't be in any of those groups. Before this year, he's had exactly one season where his OPS + was even higher than 140. He's only a 2 time top 10 MVP finisher. He's just very good, not great. And that's still something to hang his hat on. Just not something to hang a plaque on.
  10. I realize Bianchi is not on the 40 man, but at this point, would losing Maysonet be a net loss? I don't think so. Bianchi raked in AA, and is raking in AAA. Or is Bianchi hurt, and I just don't know about it. (Actually, that would seem fitting)
  11. Absolutely. It's about just being stronger, healthier, in general. I won't go into great detail, but due to a very relevant health condition, my doctor has had me do 3 cycles of steroids in the past 5 months, and after the most recent one, I can honestly tell you that I absolutely feel different/better. I had fluid drained off my knee last wednesday (bursitis), and I was playing ball by Sunday, with no pain whatsoever. You just heal faster. Your muscles bounce back better and faster from workouts. Someone who doesn't see the benefits a pitcher would get from steroids doesn't understand how they truly work. Now, I'm not here to hold up the virtues of steroids, I'm not exactly keen about how much they've been pumped into me, and if it weren't medically necessary, I'd never have done it. That being said, there's no way I can deny the effect they've had on me. I'm 37, and I feel somewhat rejuvenated this year, and my softball and workouts have definitely been more productive.
  12. Well, safe to say whatever magic pixie dust they sprinkled on Wolf's arm last year wore out. And good lord, Corey is terrible in right field.
  13. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7929521/mlb-fires-shyam-das-arbitrator-milwaukee-brewers-ryan-braun-case It's actually on ESPN's front page of baseball news. I never can understand the absolute hatred some people have for ESPN.
  14. I was eagerly anticipating the 10th inning defensive alignment before G-Kot knocked the double off the wall last night. I know it's easy to call it 'luck' after the fact when he supposedly pushed all the right buttons in the 9th inning, but he really put all his eggs in one basket with the way he dumped the bench out there. Granted, it's not like I was eager to see Izturis bat with the game on the line (which is why Lucroy shouldn't have been wasting an at-bat trying to bunt), but that's more of a roster problem.
  15. http://www.joesportsfan.com/st-louis-cardinals/the-best-of-home-opener-pujols-jersey-modifications/ I will say that some of the words on the jersey mods here are a bit naughty. 'Baseball heaven' indeed.
  16. A lot of what the Brewers will do in 2013 will depend on how certain guys perform in Nashville this year. If Gindl has a great year, Hart becomes expendable/tradeable. If Peralta has a great year, it doesn't become AS critical to re-sign Marcum, and pick up Wolf's option. Of course, Gindl and Peralta having great years don't mean they'll perform at the bigs in 2013, but we're just looking for indicators. Are they pushing for entrance into the bigs? Are they showing they're ready?
  17. Is it just me, or does Molina just assume that every single pitch that he doesn't swing at, not a strike? I don't remember the last time he didn't jaw at an umpire on a called strike 3.
  18. Aram! Just missed the 2 run homer. Two more feet in elevation and that ball would have been gone. More importantly, a big run on a 2 out hit.
  19. http://brewers.mlblogs.com/2012/04/06/brewers-mourn-loss-of-steve-uecker/?partnerId=aw-4689818088760982173-1052 This is incredibly sad news for the Brewers nation. I know Steve didn't really have anything to do with the Brewers, but I think it's fair to say that all of Brewers nation mourns with Bob on this one.
  20. Yeah, I bought my Vita at Target (the WiFi only model), and got a free 4GB memory card with it. They also had a deal that same day that if you bought two games, you got a 3rd game of your choice for free. So I guess the thing is, if you look for deals, you're not going to have to pay full retail. I think this holds true for anything, really. Especially with new stuff. Oh, and I guess this goes without saying. Don't go to GameStop.
  21. SOmewhat redundant, since your son decided he doesn't want it...but a few things, just in case. You don't need 3G to get online. If you have internet at your house, he can get online. I don't take my Vita anywhere, so I just use my own wireless at my house. Also, you don't need internet to use the cross-platform functionality between the Vita and Ps3. You just have to have the 2 devices synced.
  22. Robert, I agree 100%. If season 3 goes 'down the rabbit hole', so to speak, I can honestly say I'd be done with the show. While I'm very much interested in the show, a large scale conflict with a cartoon/comic style villain is going to turn me off. I'm not saying that such a move would be a bad thing, it's just not something that I'd be interested in.
  23. Lori's character is an absolute mess. The finale was great, but her character continues to be a contradiction with what she says previously, as well as contradictions to what the actress says in interviews. I'm interested in the reveal of Michonne, but as a non-reader of the comic, I fear that the reveal of chained 'pet zombies' with no arms and no jaws, as well as a samurai/ninja girl could take this in a cartoony direction that won't appeal to me.
  24. Not too many competitive games in the early games yesterday. Marquette just had way too much firepower for BYU. Wisconsin absolutely physically dominated Montana. The refs really let a lot of physical play go in that game, which I like to see, but when you let that go, that's going to favor the physical Badgers 100% of the time. That Syracuse game was a joke. Basically, if they're not going to allow a 1 to be beat, what is the point of having 64 teams?
  25. Teenagers? What about politicians? Movie and tv stars? I'm stunned that these types of people (athletes included) continually fail to grasp the consequences of the ridiculous things they put on the internet in the forms of tweets or facebook posts, but yet we continue to see it on a weekly basis.
