  1. The producers have made it abundantly clear that they are not following the comic book all that closely. While they may use elements from the comic, they are not using the comic as a storyboard for the tv series. Really disappointed that they killed Shane off, but his arc had run it's course I guess. Also, Lori essentially got him killed by giving him a glimmer of hope that there was something between them again, even if it was just Shane mis-reading what it was that she told him. Shane wasn't really a good person, but he was a fantastic character. I kinda think it's a given that the farm has expended its usefullness, what with the horde of what appears to be a few hundred walkers headed their way. I don't know what next week has in store, but it looks to be pretty awesome.
  2. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/milwaukee-brewers-ryan-braun-acquited-exonerated-testosterone-test-article-1.1027851 Mike Lupica basically insinuates that Selig had his hands on clearing Braun. He doesn't come right out and say it, but all you gotta do is read between a few lines.
  3. I think being the FIRST guy to ever beat the system......it'll never be a minor footnote. I'm not sure "beating the system" is the corect terminology RoCo... I didn't mean it that way, but it's certainly what he did. It's a system designed such that a person ACCUSED of being guilty IS guilty, until proven innocent. In that aspect, he had to beat the system. Given what we know so far, I'm honestly still a little surprised. Do I think he's innocent? Yeah, probably. But he still had to beat the system, given the way the system is set up.
  4. I think being the FIRST guy to ever beat the system......it'll never be a minor footnote.
  5. One thing to keep in mind with the Fed Ex dropoffs, the courier can not drop the sample off at an unmanned drop off point, it has to be dropped off at a manned station and handed to a Fed Ex employee. (At least that's my understanding of it).
  6. ESPN's now running the segment with the legal analyst who's really hammering the point that Braun offered to submit a DNA sample, and MLB refused. He said this is an important first step in actually being 'innocent' instead of just 'not guilty'.
  7. This stinks. Gary was probably in my top 10-15 favorite 'non Brewer' ball players of that era. 57. Too young by far.
  8. Great kickoff to the 2nd half of the season. I have been on the edge of my seat since Ep. 7. I haven't been this moved by tv since.........ever. TDawg: They need to do something with this guy. So far his only role seems to be 'the token black guy'. Lori: Boring character. The only thing she seems to be there for is to remind Rick how important his duty to the group is. Darryl: With the unfortunate (but absolutely awesome, gut wrenching, heart breaking) ending of Sophia's storyline, I hope they find more compelling storylines for Darryl's character. To me, aside from Shane, Darryl is the most interesting of the bunch. Dale: (in-show)......really needs to stop pushing Shane's buttons. I keep waiting for Shane to straight up snap, and either give Dale a beat-down, or just shoot him. I don't think Shane's there yet, but he's getting there. I love that they're paying homage to the comic, but not sticking to the story. It's nice to have source material to draw from, but not stick so closely to it that everyone knows what's going to happen already.
  9. Interestingly, Bill James has him putting up a .285/.350/500 slash line, and roto champ a .289/.351/.489 slash line. Zips isn't quite as generous, .278/.340/.476, but no matter how you slice it, he's going to be just fine in the middle of the order. It's certainly debatable that he's blocking Green, and that the money was better spent on SS, but Green's ZIPS slash of .324/.423 isn't exactly awe inspiring either. And the SS's that the money *could* have been spent on have the exact same age and/or injury concerns that Ramirez carries.
  10. Saturday night Kung fu theater...... Bunraku. This looked like it had promise. An all star cast, a wild visual style, and tons of martial arts action. For some reason, it just fell short. The action sequences never had any 'pop', and the story line just fell really flat. The reveal at the end from Josh Hartnett's character had more of a 'really? That's IT?" feel than anything else. Still, the visuals were excellent, and Woody Harrelson makes everything he's in at least tolerable. 6/10 13 Assassins. All I can say is simply.......wow. I went into this with high expectations, and came out of it suitably impressed. The best thing I can say about this movie, is it gave me flashbacks to the early 80's, when my brother and I would stay up late on Saturday nights, and watch Kung Fu Theater on WGN, with back to back cheesy overdubbed Kung Fu movies from the 60's and 70's, and eat a boat load of popcorn. That's what this movie made me feel like. The story was so-so, but the action scenes were nothing short of amazing. The last 45 minutes of this movie are a blood soaked love letter to the Samurai/action movies of that era (and in fact, this is a remake of 1962's '13 Assassins'). There's not much time to get to know the characters, and really, that's ok. I don't like to use the word epic, I think it gets throw around far too often, but the final battle in this movie meets the criteria. 9.5/10
  11. We says stuff like this a lot, but I'm guessing if Prince helps Detroit get a championship (or two) within that time, they won't care all that much. They also will probably have him as the full time DH by then, which minimizes their risk somewhat.Everyone said it about the Astros and Carlos Lee, and they were 100% correct. Granted, they don't have the ability to DH him, but no matter how you slice it, Lee's offense has been nowhere NEAR worthy of his pay, even if he was playing gold glove caliber defense at either 1B or LF. Will Prince's bat fall off like Lee's? Hard to say. I wouldn't want to take that chance at 25 mil plus. for years 6 through 9.
  12. D'oh. I rebooted the Belkin, just to see what might happen, and now I'm up and running. The 3 hardwire and 3 wireless devices connected directly to the Belkin are running, and the 2 desktops and the thin client connected to the switch are running, all via DHCP.
  13. I know it's not the cable (isolated, known working), and I have plenty of IP addresses, as I have 3 wireless machines working, and 4 wired right now. (Well, not RIGHT now, but at any given time). The one thing I didn't do is reboot the router, although the devices that were wired/connected were still getting their IP's, as were the 3 wireless devices.
  14. Nerd help requested. I have a Motorola surfboard cable modem. Plugged into it is a standard Belkin 4 port wireless router. I have need of more ports. I have acquired a generic no-name 5 port ethernet switch, with an uplink port. I'm plugging the switch into port 4 of the Belkin router. Now, this switch has an uplink port, so if I'm reading my googles correctly, I should only need a straight-through, and not a X-connect cable, yes? I have 2 devices connected to the switch, and they're not getting an IP, they're just pulling apipa 169.254.x.x If it matters, the Belkin is running DHCP, I have nothing statically assigned. Help.
  15. Congrats to Lark. Raines not being in is criminal. Bagwell makes it in next year perhaps, in the next 2 or 3 for sure. Jason Stark made a great case for why he can't vote Trammel in. Larkin's OPS+ was over 100 13 consecutive years, meaning (obviously) he was a consistently good offensive performer, if not occasionally great. Trammel was all over the place, posting 6 seasons scattered throughout his career with OPS's in the 600's, and several OPS+'s in the 80's and 90's. NOW, with all that being said, OPS+ is obviously not the starting point or a benchmark for HOF worthiness, but it is an easy way to see if a guy's an above average performer on a yearly basis, and Trammel was not.
  16. Lastly, I also got the God of War PSP anthology, which I never played on the PSP anyways, so now I'll get to play those on the PS3, and experience them in full HD glory. God of War 3 was absolutely incredible (for anyone that hasn't played it), so I expect good things out of this combo pack. After that, I still have Assassins Creed: Revelations still in the plastic, which I have to get around to, and I put a down payment on the Collectors Edition of Diablo III. I honestly don't know when I'm going to get a chance to play all this stuff.
  17. Fantastic zombie game. Much more fun playing it online with friends though.
  18. I put about 2 hours into Uncharted 1 last night, and while the story is interesting so far, the amount of puzzle solving and ridiculous platforming is incredibly annoying. Some of the platforming sections require you to be ultra-precise with your landing and takeoff spots, and that's annoying when sometimes, the camera is adjustable, and sometimes, it's not. Doesn't Drake let you know if you can make it or not by the way he orientates his body before jumping? I don't remember this problem at all, at least from 2 and 3.Not really. There's times where you're not sure if you can make it, so you jump, find out you can't, die, and start over. I did finish Uncharted 1 last night, and while it was fun, had a cool story, and I'll get right into Uncharted 2, the amount of CHEAP deaths was enough that I can say for sure that a 17 year old me would have rage smashed at least 3 controllers. I will say that the new enemy type (the cannibal/vampire/zombie/whatever they were) introduced in the latter 1/3rd of the game really amped up the 'creep' factor, but I was just dying so often, that dying because of these guys just didn't have a lot of impact I guess. I'm hoping 2 has less 'real time' button pressing events, a little more consistency with the platforming, and a little tighter gunplay. I will say that for a game released in 2007, the graphics could still be called 'amazing', even by today's standards, and that's saying a lot. If you stuck toothpicks under my fingernails, and made me give the game a score, I'd call it a solid 8/10, whereas Arkham City gets a 10/10. However, I know that Uncharted was Naughty Dog's first big Adventure/Platformer game like this, so I expect 2 and 3 to get exponentially better, just like Arkham City was better than Asylum.
  19. Nah. I've played the Uncharted and Arkham City, and AC gets the nod for sure. Uncharted 3 isn't much different from the previous games. AC is head and shoulders better than AA. Don't get me wrong, both franchises are good, but Uncharted is just Indiana Jones as a game. The Batman games are great super hero epics. And the ending to AC was the best I've ever seen in any game. Yeah it was..........incredible. Very creepy, and haunting. I can't say much more here without putting up spoilers for those who haven't played it, but it would have been awesome if DC and WB and Rocksteady all collaborated to make that the actual curtain call for that character. The "New 52" put that to rest though.
  20. Honestly, without spoiling anything, the writing, script, and voice acting in Arkham City is head and shoulders above almost anything out there in the video game world right now. Once I tire of Arkham City, I have Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 all ready to roll. You're going to completely revise that first statement after you play Uncharted 1, 2, and 3. I think maybe the reason I was disapointed in AC was because I had just played Uncharted 2 and then went to Uncharted 3 after.I put about 2 hours into Uncharted 1 last night, and while the story is interesting so far, the amount of puzzle solving and ridiculous platforming is incredibly annoying. Some of the platforming sections require you to be ultra-precise with your landing and takeoff spots, and that's annoying when sometimes, the camera is adjustable, and sometimes, it's not.
  21. You don't need to play Arkham Asylum for City to make sense. Arkum Asylum is a great game, Arkham city is an amazing game.......like, once in a generation type game. Honestly, without spoiling anything, the writing, script, and voice acting in Arkham City is head and shoulders above almost anything out there in the video game world right now. Once I tire of Arkham City, I have Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 all ready to roll.
  22. No love for Arkham City here? Surprised. I've probably put about 30-35 hours into it, and it's hands down, easily the best super-hero game I've ever played. No surprise, after Arkham Asylum, but this tops AA in every way. I'm standing right at 50% completion. Once I finish all the side missions, I'll probably put it down. I'm not going to go looking for every single Riddler trophy, just to be a completionist.
  23. Yeah, I got 2 Seagate 500 GB externals last year for $49 apiece. 8 months later, and Best Buy is listing them at $119.00
