  1. Beside age, and ability to switch hit, this guy looks to be pretty similar to Profar in the stat lines. What is the major drop off there? Profar is a stud defensively, and this guy is not. (according to scouts at least)
  2. I AM STILL OPTIMISTIC ON A .500 SEASON!!!!! I dont know about you, but I was out with my wife all weekend, away from the internet, doing things in real life with actual human beings. but hey! thanks for coming in here and raining on everyones parade! LETS GET BACK IN THIS! .500+ OR BUST BABY! I don't think he was raining on everyone's parade. I think he was raining on like 4 people's parade.
  3. Royals last playoff appearance was 1985, fwiw. Oh I could have sworn they won 100 games sometime in the early 2000's. They won 83 games in 2002, but they haven't sniffed 100 since the mid 80's.
  4. It had everything to do with his record. We had some pretty sad debates around here in 2004, since everyone knew that "good starting pitchers find ways to win". It seems most fans know better these days. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?id=sheetbe01&t=p&year=2004 Ben Sheets <<<<< Wayne Franklin. 'Nuff said.
  5. For all the finger pointing, and "Fielder's gone, he would have done something about it" blah blah blah blah blah..... Wolf sucks. Axford and K-Rod have not been good. Gallardo has been average, instead of very good. So instead of being right around the middle of the pack in the league, the pitching has sucked. Then you have all the injuries on offense (Gamel, Rodriguez, Lucroy) coupled with Weeks absolutely sucking, it's not real hard to figure out where the wins have gone. Fielder wouldn't make Wolf, Axford, and K-Rod better. Fielder wouldn't make Weeks suddenly not suck. Fielder couldn't have stopped Lucroy from punching the wall or whatever (oops, I mean drop a suitcase on his hand). For all the baserunning blunders and sloppy play people want to blame this on, along with Roenicke's poor management, nothing's changed really. Take away the injuries. Plug in 2011 Rickie Weeks, John Axford, and Randy Wolf, and the Crew are probably standing at the top of the division, Roenicke or not.
  6. Or lefties for that matter. Lefties have a .279 OBP vs. Parra this year. Just sayin'.
  7. I've had directv for 3 months, and have had a grand total of about 10 minutes worth of signal interruption during storms. My reception with Charter was CRAP. CRAP. CONSTANT pixelation, picture freeze, sync problems with audio/visual, etc, etc, etc. Yeah, the satellite will blitz once in a while during a heavy storm. I'll deal with it. Cable sucks.
  8. It's a woodchuck. They're pretty laid back unless you corner them (like any animal, of course) We have one that hangs out in our back yard that's kind of a chicken. When birds fly over, he flattens himself out, and doesn't move. But like others have said, they will dig pretty big holes. If you feel like he's a problem, call your local animal control, and they'll come get him. Or you can try live trapping him, and taking him out in the country.
  9. Defensive war is extremely susceptible to weird fluctuations over small samples, and anything less than a few years is a small sample, especially when it comes to defensive numbers.
  10. In the last 14 games, they played the pirates, cubs, padres, royals, and Twins, and they've gone 7-7. This team just isn't playoff caliber. Too many injuries, and a crap bullpen are derailing them. Axford is turning in a Turnbow-like performance, and K-Rod hasn't been much better. Nyjer isn't part of the future of this franchise. Even if they don't get anything much in return, who cares? They gave up Cutter Dykstra to get him. Logan Schafer is 25 years old. Time to see if the kid can play.
  11. I watched Hesher yesterday, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Reviews were kinda so-so, and I think it's because the reviewers weren't sure what they were watching Basically, JGL is a stoner/squatter who just starts living in this families garage without their consent, and things get really weird from there. There's some disparate elements, but when the movie was over, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had just watched a modern, dark take on Mary Poppins. JGL's got solid chops, and Rainn Wilson has a great turn in this as well. It's a weird little indy flick, but if you're into dark humor, I'd definitely give this one a shot. 8/10
  12. Shouldn't have such a huge sense of relief to pull one out when you come into the 9th with a 4 run lead.
  13. This is awful. This game should have been over 10 minutes ago.
  14. I remember that game, and I remember the next day at work, after about 2 hours sleep. WHOAH SOLVDD indeed. I hated going to bed and not catching the end. In retrospect, I should have just stayed up all night.
  15. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/gossari01.shtml Look at a guy like Gossage, and look at his 1978 line. 63 games pitched, but 134 innings. And only 27 saves. (Which lead the league!) Gossage certainly had a 'closer' mentality, but he wasn't relegated to only coming in in the 9th inning, with a 3 run lead or less. I bet if you look up guys like Fingers, Sparky Lyle, Bruce Sutter, you'll find similar lines.
  16. Roache sounds like a typical Brewers/Melvin pick......big bat, no glove. I'm seeing all these "elite hitter" comments here, but I've read elsewhere that he's got huge holes in his swing, can't hit off-speed stuff, has a big hitch in his backside, tries to pull everything......... One scouting report said he's a one tool player with HUGE power, but nothing else. Are we just being blind homers here on this guy?
  17. Dunn isn't quite 2/3rds of the way there, so I don't think it should be stated that he's a 600 homerun guy matter-of-factly. He's 32, and could hit his decline years hard, and not make it to 600, or even 550. Let's wait and see. I remember when Griffey Jr. was an absolute lock to get to 700. Also, we're entering an era where 600 homeruns just isn't going to be looked at as the same kind of achievement as it used to be. 15 years ago, 3 guys ever had done it. Now 8 are on the list.
  18. Will he and should he are two different things. He hits lots of homers, and takes lots of walks, so he's always had a good OPS, despite not being a good batting average guy. There's several factors going against him however..... 1.) Despite being a premier power hitter, he's never won a homerun or RBI title. 2.) He's never been considered anything close to an elite player, or among the 'league's best'. He's never put up a 150 OPS+. 3.) He's a -24! defensive WAR for his career. I don't think anyone can argue that he's an absolute butcher in the field. 4.) He hasn't hit his decline years yet. He's an .878 OPS guy right now, and that's before his decline phase. It's very safe to say that when he retires, his career OPS may be somewhat lower than .878, and his career OPS+ will be somewhat lower than 127. (If I had to guess, I'd say somewhere around 120) Because of his Homeruns and Walks skillset, he may hang around a while, even as the rest of his skills completely erode. So, will he? I think there's about a 15-25% chance that he will be, based on what we know about how the sports-writers vote. He will likely have a .235-ish batting average when he retires. We may all well know that batting average is not a good measuring stick of offensive value, but sports writers WILL hold it against him. Also, as previously mentioned, the fact that he's just never been considered a 'premier' talent will be held against him as well (IMO). He is a one-time all star. Should he? I don't think so. Fred McGriff was a career .886 OPS guy. McGriff fell just short of 500 homers, but was better than Dunn in just about every other way (assuming Dunn makes it to 500, which I'm assuming he will). So I think, rationally...........no, and no.
  19. Interestingly, we play in Janesville on Sunday nights, but we're travelling to play in this tournament.
  20. 35 views and no replies. Sad face.
  21. They're only 5 1/2 out now. If they get hot, I think they can probably pick up more than 1/2 a game in a month.
  22. June 9th, in Richland (north of Milwaukee, outside of Oconomowoc) I don't care what position you play, but prefer you play either 2B, or outfield. If not, I can make it work. It's a one day, double elimination tourney, 3 homerun rule, 6' to 12' arc, starting at 9 am. Because of work and family stuff, I've had 3 people back out on me, after we registered. Anyone interested?
