  1. If Ramirez were 3 years younger, I'd have far less issue with this. Ramirez kinda sucked last year, and had a really slow start (at least with his power numbers) this year. He's got some pretty decent numbers across the board, but I'm just concerned at his age that the signs are leading to a sharp decline here, and it could be sooner rather than later. I'm not at all opposed to spending "prince's money" on a 3B or 1B upgrade, but I'd just rather it not be Ramirez.
  2. Is that really any kind of real concern at this point, though? No. that's why I said "doubt it".
  3. It would be really hard for me to overcome my A-ram hatred, but I guess I could dig deep and do it for the team. Seriously though.......a few things bug me here. He had a really down year last year, and had a pretty slow start this year as well. His power numbers have rebounded just recently, and his season overall looks good, but still nowhere near his peak years when he was a regular .900 OPS guy. I'm just worried that 16 mil is a BIG chunk to pay the guy next year when he's 34 and showing signs of some decline. I don't know if paying A-Ram 16 mil next year would be a deterrent towards re-signing Prince (doubt it), but I'm still not a huge fan of tying that much payroll into a guy who's not a sure bet to produce what you need out of that kind of money.
  4. Inglorious Basterds was 45 minutes longer than it needed to be. The dialogue was horribly over-long, and just a plain old yawn fest. And honestly, over Hurt Locker, Basterds, or Avatar, the best movie should have been Up.
  5. No doubt...same with Gomez...the complaints on those two have been more around how they were used. Now that things have changed for Loe like they have for "Gomey", he can be real valuable and not abused. Absolutely agreed. The way Gomez has been used in recent weeks is exactly how he SHOULD be used. Pinch running, late inning defensive replacement, and starting against lefties. Granted, he's still not very 'good' against lefties, but Morgan's career splits indicate that T Plush should NOT start vs. lefties.
  6. You have to play in to the point where you could throw the runner out at home on a SF. It does you no good to catch the ball 275 ft deep because the run will easily score and you lose. They have to basically know what is the limit of their arm and play that shallow so that they would have a very good chance of throwing the runner out at home. The one mistake they made today was not adjusting for the speed of the runner, it looked like thats the depth they would play in that scenario no matter who the runner is. If someone like Gomez is on 3rd you are probably better playing with 5 IF'ers because he will score on almost anything to any outfielder that could not be fielded by an infielder. Well that's just it. Kottaras isn't exactly the swiftest cat. They could have easily played deeper, and still had a chance to throw him out. At the very least, Heisey would have had a chance to set and have proper momentum on his throw. Not saying he would have got him, but it might have been close.
  7. I don't understand playing the outfield that far in in that situation. You have to catch a flyball where it is hit. If it's hit 275 feet deep, you have to catch it there, it doesn't matter where you're standing when the at bat starts, you have to throw the ball from where you catch it. I get maybe trying to cut off a shallow base hit, but it still doesn't make a lot of sense.
  8. Wow. What a classless piece of.........something Cordero is. You blow 2 saves in 3 chances, and your coping mechanism is throwing a fastball at a former teammates head? Classy move. So glad the Brewers pulled this one out.
  9. Why? Seriously, why is that guy still on the team? This lineup is awful. After Fielder, there's nothing, until you get to Lucroy. At least if they hit Lucroy 5th, you have a chance for a bigger rally.
  10. Still not as bad as the play he tried to make against the Twins. About a 3 hopper 2 steps to his right, and he made a falling down/lunging grab for a ball that any other SS is able to just slide step over and field. This guy is an utter disaster in the field. Absolute mess.
  11. I like JC in the booth WAY more than Schroeder. And btw, what happened, where is Schroeder? I obviously missed something.
  12. Is this a matter of Scarpetta being the only option right now? His numbers this year aren't all that exceptional, and he's walking a ton of guys.
  13. Depends on the nature of the ball. Geoff Jenkins 200th homer? I'd offer to trade it in and ask for a little kick back. I wouldn't be specific, and I wouldn't hold the ball hostage. If they offered me a bat, I'd take it, tickets, I'd take them. Nothing, heck, I'd take that too. A pricey ball? I'd have to sell it. Like others, I have debts, and a boon like that would certainly help. Derek Jeter doesn't need my charity. If I caught his 3000th hit, I'd auction it, and he'd have a chance to bid, like anyone else.
  14. 2 nights in a row where I'm mildly impressed with a decision Roenicke made. The pitchout against Stubbs in the opener was a great call. Heck, it was a good call even if Stubbs had been safe, but as it turned out, good call. When they put the camera on Roenicke in the dugout after the caught stealing, he still looked utterly stoic, but I think you could see the look on his face that said "Yeah, that's right, I made a decision that NOBODY can second guess!". Then last night, bases loaded, 2 outs, I say to my wife as we're watching "Why is Gomez not being brought out for Prince here, when he's the winning run"?, and just like that, Gomez pops out of the dugout towards second. Now, the Gomez PR'ing for Prince is kind of a no-brainer, but there have been more than a handful of 'no brainers' this year that Roenicke has blatantly avoided to make. Either he's getting better, or someone on the bench is telling him what to do, or lastly, we can file these under the 'even a blind squirrel finds the occasional nut' theory.
  15. I think it's important to note that 300 to 400,000 people go to baseball games daily, and these kind of incidences are extraordinarily rare, given the context and numbers. Now obviously, it is nothing short of devastating for that man's family and friends, there's no denying that. But I think the worst thing baseball can do is over react and ask players to stop throwing balls into the stands or some such.
  16. What's funny is Hardy's .660-ish OPS with good defense got him sent to AAA. Betencourt's .600-ish OPS with the worst defense I've ever seen from a shortstop is getting him every day starts, and the same for McGehee.
  17. Fire Roenicke. Trade for a SS. Doesn't have to be a star, just someone serviceable, someone without a negative WAR. Send McGehee to AAA, and recall Gamel or Green. Trade for a setup guy.
  18. I was lukewarm at best on this hiring when it occurred. I started hating it when I saw he managed the bullpen the same way Yost did. And if we tank, and miss the playoffs and Kam Loe has anywhere close to the 12-13 losses he's currently on pace for, and is still pitching in the 8th inning, I'll hope Melvin gets fired too. I'd honestly like to know what this guy told Melvin in the interview to make him think 'this is the guy'. Honestly, if we tank and Roenicke's kept on, I can't renew my 9 game pack. There's only one way to let someone you buy a product know you're not satisified with the product, and that's to stop paying for it.
  19. Sadly, I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, if RR has not figured it out after 90 games, I don't suspect he will. I literally want to break the swear filter here right now. I've been 'mad' at this team before, but never so much as I am at both RR and Loe right now. This is so far beyond ridiculous, words can't even describe.
  20. While I agree that it seems that Greinke's been a victim of poor luck if anything, at what point do his brutal *results* stop being 'bad luck' and start indicating that he's just not pitching well? Yeah, he's striking out a lot of guys, but he's still allowing a lot of runs. He's got a poor LOB% relative to his peripherals, but maybe he's just not focusing properly when he's got guys on base? I prefer to prescribe to statistical data, and yeah, I know that when you have statistical outliers, you should take them with a grain of salt. However, with Greinke's history, and his known issues, can't we at least CONSIDER that the playoff race atmosphere is putting more pressure on him than he can handle, and that he's just pitching poorly in pressure situations? I'm not stating this as fact, not at all, I'm just saying that it should at least be considered, knowing what we know about the guy.
  21. While it'd be awesome to see Weeks in, he just doesn't have the type of aggressive uppercut swing that plays really well (IMO) in these types of events. As much as I think the whole "messing up your swing" thing is utter hogwash, I have to say, Weeks is the type of guy who I think could, every so slightly/potentially change his swing/approach for a derby, and then have that carry over. Ultimately, I think it wouldn't happen, but I just don't think his swing plays well in a homerun derby.
  22. Betancourt’s defensive deficiencies are truly awe-inspiring. Of 21 qualifying shortstops since ‘08, Betancourt ranks last in Ultimate Zone Rating, at -41.8. The second worst qualifier, Jason Bartlett, is at -16.9. His Total Zone, Relative Zone, and Range Factor are also exponentially worse than anybody else’s. As a hitter, he is equally atrocious. 148 players have gotten at least 1600 plate appearances over the last four seasons. Of those 148, Betancourt ranks dead last in OBP, BB, BB%, wRAA, wOBA, RE24, and WAR. He ranks second to last in OPS, wRC, wRC+, and WPA So he ranks last or dead to last in EVERYTHING. That's downright mind boggling. I'm also staggered (but somehow, not surprised) that he's almost 3 times as bad as the next worst defensive shortstop. When will this joke stop?
  23. The Brewers went 18-16 in a season in games that Wayne Franklin started. I'm not even saying Greinke's pitched poorly. I'm saying that his results are not what people expected when the Brewers sold the farm AND took on the worst starting position player in baseball to get him. Normally, I'd suspect people to not be as reactionary, but this is a 'go for it' year, and people are going to live and die with every good and bad pitch.
  24. People aren't going to relax when Greinke's *results* look like garbage, and the team's fighting for a playoff spot for the 2nd time in 4 years.
