  1. I think we can all agree, whether or not you think "An" or "A" should go before historic, that the thread title was not, in fact, historically bad.
  2. Yes, I was getting all nitty. That's exactly what I was doing. It's not like sarcasm comes across real well with the written word, so maybe you could clarify, for future reference.
  3. Actually, they do. Not as often, but they break. And when they splinter, they're far more dangerous than wood.
  4. Actually, it appears the injury was pretty serious. There wasn't a lot of blood, but it punctured the chest cavity and allowed air in, leading to the possibility of a collapsed lung. He's spending a few days in the hospital and is considered out for the season.Yeah, that's why I posted it. Wasn't real clear from my post. It didn't even look like the bat hit him all that hard. If you pause the video from ESPN, you can clearly see what looks like a big bullet hole on Colvins chest. And it was a maple bat, per the story. They quoted Quade about how the ash bats shatter into small pieces, but the maple bats tend to stay in large chunks when the handle breaks.
  5. Braun still has a much higher career OPS+ than Tulowtzki. 140 vs 115. I do realize that Tulo plays better defense and this thread is going to quickly devolve into some kind of WAR argument, though.Despite Tulo's awesome 3 week stretch, I'd still look at each of their 4 year careers as a whole as evidence that I'd still rather have Braun.
  6. http://sports.espn.go.com...lb/news/story?id=5592592 Scary stuff. Despite the fact he's a Cub, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I'm not sure if it was a maple bat, but it'll certainly reopen the discussion on banning them if it was.
  7. Boondock Saints II Ugh, where to start. At face value, this was an ok movie. But when comparing it to Boondock Saints, it's like they took EVERYTHING about the first movie that made it a cult classic, stuck to the EXACT same formula, and while they were going through the motions, took great pains to make fun of the source material. The end result was a schlocky mess with a confusing plot, and a bunch of 'insider jokes' obviously meant to give the movie an almost slapstick/light hearted feel. Sure, there were some 'comedic' moments in the first film, but the comedy bits were more like realistic moments of levity a person might inject into an otherwise extraordinary situation. In this movie, the hokey nonsense was the focus, and when they tried to shift the focus to the more dramatic parts, it just fell really flat. Long winded movie review, but I'm horribly disappointed in this film, after being a huge fan of the first one. 5/10 http://sports-boards.net/forums/images/kirsch/misc/progress.gif http://sports-boards.net/forums/images/kirsch/buttons/edit.gif
  8. http://brewersfandemonium...rewers-Next-Manager.html Existing thread here.
  9. No. I'd vote "yes" on Jenkins before I'd vote "yes" on Sheets, and in all honesty, I'd vote "no" on Jenkins.
  10. Someone else said it first, but I'll repeat it. No Don Sutton, no Trevor Hoffman. Sutton helped us get to a World Series. Hoffman helped us........stay below .500 two years in a row. Granted, he was very good in 2009, but still, achieving a milestone that was mostly achieved in another city is not worthy of number retirement. At least Sutton helped the TEAM achieve a goal.
  11. Let's assume the guy was telling the truth, and that the most 'homophobic' thing he said was "hey Yadi, you like making your living on your knees?". Throwing the guy out for that is SERIOUSLY weak sauce. Like I said, the heckling/verbal abuse the kids on the field take at the Mallards games is 10X worse than that.
  12. Well..........oh well. I've heard much worse at a ballpark. I'm not condoning it, but at the same time, I wonder why Classy (Yadier http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ) couldn't have just ignored it. Has anyone ever gone to a Mallards game, and heard the 'heckling' that goes on there? That stuff is both BRUTAL and hilarious. I don't remember a single thing I heard at the Mallards games I've been to that's fit to post here.
  13. Right, because many MORE guys make it to 47 still pitching effectively than there are guys that break down rapidly in the 38 - 40 age range.
  14. Apparently Davidson tossed the fan behind home plate last night because Classy Ben Molina complained about being heckled. Keep in mind (according to the fan) that no profanity was being used.
  15. Hoffman was devastatingly effective most of last year as well, and then this year he fell off a cliff. The same could VERY well happen to Rivera in the next year or 2 as well.
  16. And in 1987, was at a Cubs/Astros tilt at Wrigley with a final score of 21-7 in which three grand slams were hit. Keith Moreland, Brian Dayett, and Billy Hatcher. 9 HR's total in the game.
  17. I was at the Metrodome in I believe 1983, when Ben Oglivie hit a 486 foot bomb that was for quite a long time the longest HR in Metrodome history
  18. We're setting the bar pretty low if we do. Guys that were 1-2 seasons in a Brewer uniform (aside from Hank, who was in Milwaukee for 15 years), I just have to say no on.
  19. "There's nothing good I can say about someone who doesn't play the game the right way and doesn't respect the integrity of the game," Florida's Wes Helms said Shut up fatty. A clean hit on your catcher and then stealing 2 bases when losing is not the right way to play? Morgan may well be a jerk (I'm not doubting or denying that) but I see nothing wrong with the sequence of events that occurred on Morgan's behalf.
  20. I think it's about time the %!**@@$% *unwritten* rules of baseball be codified and written down. You're not supposed to run when hit by a pitch and your team is down? Tony LaRussa woudl be proud.
  21. Let's not overlook the fact that Lucroy's only 2 seasons removed from hitting 20 HR's in 2008 split between West VA and Brevard. That's a good bit of power at that age. I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit 12-15 HR's in 400 PA's in a given year, even as early as next year.
  22. These guys are professionals. They shouldn't need a 'rah rah' guy in the dugout for them to be able to go out and perform their duties (or have *fun* for that matter)
  23. My best personal encounter with a Brewer would have been with Ernie Riles in the mid 80's. There was a signing at the Janesville Mall during the late spring, so my dad took myself and my little brother. When he signed our stuff, he was pretty friendly of course. My dad said "Hey Ernie, we're gonna be in Detroit for a series against the Tigers in July, say hit to us if you see us there!". He smiled and said "Sure!" We laughed it off. Later that summer, while we were vacationing, we did indeed go to a Brewers game in Detroit. We moseyed on down to the dugout, and there was Ernie, and he was signing for just a few kids, and when he saw us, he immediately said "Hey! The Janesville kids!" and gladly signed a few more items for us, while chatting with my dad for about 5 minutes about this and that. I just remember being really impressed that he instantly recognized us from 2 months prior and a 3 minute meeting in a mall with several dozen other kids. I was always a big fan of his after that.
  24. How about they hire Lou and keep Mach, too. Macha can actually run things, maybe from the club house...or even better from a suite on the club level. Lou can be in the dugout and do all the things fans think are important, like yelling, kicking dirt on umpires, and ordering bean ball wars. BRILLIANT. (and I'm pretty sure I'm not being sarcastic)
  25. I don't care if there's a source or not, but having "Dave Bush Outrighted" at the top of the fan forum is misleading at this point. I'm not at all calling batllekow or sources into question, I'm only saying that it looks like we're stating it as fact, when right now it's only rumored.
