  1. For what it's worth, I was an extra in the movie Major League, with what appears to be about a 3/4 of a second screen time of my blurred face cheering a Charlie Sheen strikeout, so I'm also only 3 degrees from Kevin Bacon.
  2. Mike Cameron is on the Brewers, who are broadcast by Bob Uecker. Uecker was in the movie Major League with Charlie Sheen Charlie Sheen was in the movie Young Guns with Kiefer Sutherland. Kiefer Sutherland was in the movie Flatliners with Kevin Bacon. BOOYA!
  3. So what you are saying basically is Garland happened to get a lot of wins so he must be good? I'm not saying that. I'm saying wins is about the worst stat to measure a pitcher's value. Ok, not "about" the worst, "the" worst.
  4. Now he's no Ben Sheets, but he is younger, has more wins (in the same amount of ML time), has more starts, more innings, a better winning percentage, and 2 more postseason wins than Ben Sheets has postseason starts. That's the fascination with Jon Garland. People were raving about Jeff Suppan's post season studliness when we signed him, and now people are clamoring for him to go to the bullpen because he sucks. There's any number of quantifiable stats out there to measure a pitchers performance, and almost every single one of them are better than wins, winning % and post season experience.
  5. Cam knows better than most that this is a business, and if trading him helps the team either financially or on the field, I'm sure he'll understand.
  6. I saw the thread title and thought this would be a game where someone mentions a player and then we try to connect them to Cam in 6 or fewer people. I'll start. Enos Cabell!
  7. Maybe harsh penalties for first time offensders will keep them from becoming 2nd time offenders. Again, the easiest way to avoid being ticketed for DUI at .09 is to not drive after having a drink. There've been too many studies to count that even after 1 drink a person's senses are impaired as compared to being stone sober.
  8. Bill Hall has negative value right now due to his abysmal batting vs right handers and his contract. If anything, having Hall in a deal means having to take on bad contract, and Beltre is reasonably priced for what he provides.
  9. Love it. Future HOFer ending his career in Brewer Blue. As far as the "Milwaukee" issues, I think another poster (sorry, dont' remember who) hit it on the head. The locals don't have the vantage point that people who have never lived here have. (Granted I live in Janesville, but used to work in Milwaukee). Milwaukee has a lot of charm and locales and events that the locals come to appreciate and enjoy, but compared to other cities, there isn't anything you can do in Milwaukee that simply can't be done anywhere else. It's not a bad town, it's just not got anything that's a huge draw.
  10. I have a very good friend who's serving a 25 year stint for killing a family of three while driving drunk. It was his 6th offense, and 9th offense of driving with no license. His lawyer had managed to keep him out of jail for any prolongued period of time He's told me he hopes he never gets out, because he knows he'll do it again. My wife's best friend was killed by a drunk driver (who was behind the wheel of a semi) who crossed the center line and ran her car over with his trailer. He didn't pull over for 2 miles, and that was only because the wreckage was blocking up his trailer wheels. Instead of figuring out how to beat the wrap after you get caught, try not driving while drunk instead.
  11. I saw and enjoyed a lot of movies this year, but undoubtedly "The Dark Knight" stands head and shoulders above the rest of the heap. It's not very often that a movie that gets as much advance hype as this one did actually lives up to it, but this one did, and I'm just upset that I didn't get to see it in the theater.
  12. True, but that's a bit of a white lie told to the Scots to keep them from feeling inferior. That's for you me and everybody not a Scot to know, and them to never find out.
  13. My whole life I thought my mom's side was Irish. Then about five years ago my mom told me that her dad thought he was Scottish. Even more crazy is that his brother thought they were Irish. So I'm not really sure if I'm irish or scottish - I'm probably both given the mutt nature of my lineage. I do know that I'm a direct descendant of Lady Godiva...so, there's that.NEVER tell a Scot that there's no different between a Scot and an Irish.
  14. Hawing, I work in Madison (I must love the commute!) so that's a resource I'd likely be able to tap. The online resources would probably be more up my alley though, as I'd simply have more time to be able to utilize them. Here's another interesting question that I'll pose, more for just the fun of it, and it's what's lead me on this "crusade", as it were. Has anyone ever spent their life knowing their family history, and then found something out that was entirely contradictory to what they "knew" to be true?
  15. I got an overwhelming sense of relief that it was over, and I won't have to worry about Christmas for about 10 1/2 more months.
  16. All the Rudolph, Frosty, etc (Basically all the Rankin/Bass Christamas stuff) I love Christmas Vacation, wife hates it. Booo! We have the Muppets Christmas Carol, with Michael Caine as Scrooge, which is actually very well done. Michael Caine takes the role on with a relish.
  17. I think the title pretty much sums it up. I googled for a while, but I'm just wondering if anybody has any good sites they might use or have used in the past.
  18. Player salaries in MLB may make up a smaller % of the revenue, but I have to think the operating costs in MLB, given the 162 game schedule, more travel, and larger roster and staffs (except the NFL) are higher than the other leagues as well. Obviously it's a statement that I'd like to back up with some foundation in fact, but I don't have the luxury of time right now. I might take a look at it at some point if I get the time.
  19. If the rotation stays as is, it's basically the same rotation we had for the first half last year, minus Sheets, but plus Gallardo. Gallardo has the potential to be close to Sheets' level of performance. If, as other posters suggest, the offensive players perform up to the standards that they're capable of, the rotation should at least be competitive. Another arm would surely be nice, but I don't think the situation is exactly dire either. There are a lot of 4 types amongst the group, but if they add a Looper or the like (or Sheets), the depth can only help.
  20. In my mid 20's I could do 83-85, topped out once at 88. After TJ surgery and a lot of complications, the best I've done since is mid 50's. I'm more or less left handed now. At the Snappers game last year I tried it left handed and hit 68, which hey, I'll take that from my off-hand!
  21. This is really starting to suck. The Janesville/Madison commute isn't so bad, but the 30 mph or less I'm forced to go because of weather seemingly 3 nights out of 5 is making it a long haul. Friday morning was downright awful. First, I had to find a passable on-ramp to I-90 somewhere in Janesville, which took 20 minutes, and then the 90 from Janesville to Madison was literally one lane, about 25 mph the whole way. That was actually kind of nice, because with it being just one lane right down the middle, there was no way for the semi drivers to try to pass at 50+ in horribly unsafe conditions. I left at 4:45 am, and got to my workplace on Junction Road at 6:45. The funny thing is that the supervisors in my department were getting upset with the Madison people who weren't making it in, when I had made the drive from Janesville.
  22. I can see why people are less than enamored with these moves. Years of our "major" signings being guys like David Hulse, Kevin Reimer, Lyle Mouton, and Luis Lopez is sure to make people leery. It doesn't matter that it's a whole new front office, and that the franchise has turned the corner, it's going to resonate with fans who remember those awful, awful times. It happens, it's human nature. Obviously it's not fair to judge the present and future based on past moves, especially moves made by a different GM and front office, but I can see why people have that inferiority "we get the leftovers" complex.
  23. The drive last night from Madison's west side to Janesville was one of the worst winter weather drives I've ever undertaken, and that's saying a lot. The ultra-fluffy crap was unbelievably slick. Cars in ditches everywhere. The I-90 was treacherous at best. It'd be one thing if everyone was going 35-45, but *most* everyone was going 35-45 (visibility was near zero), but of course, the big rig drivers can't be bothered to worry about safety, neither theirs or other's. At least a few times I had a big rig so close to my car that I couldn't see their bumper in my rear view. That's just not right in the best conditions, let alone conditions where even a slight mistake means you go into an uncontrollable slide. Ok rant over. What's the best guess for when the weather hits thursday night? I get done with work at 6 pm, and I'm trying to figure out if I should just bring a change of clothes to work with me tomorrow.
  24. But it is human nature. Look at how many more lottery tickets get sold when the PowerBall gets over the 100 million dollar mark. As if all those people would be unhappy with a 3-4 million dollar jackpot. Some people can say they'd be happy with less, but not everyone. Apparently CC is not one of those people. But to say the difference between 100 million and 160 million dollars (60 MILLION dollars!) is negligible is just not true at all.
  25. Joey G had 4 XBH's last year in over 315 PA's. He slugged .279. He's worse than most backup catchers at the plate. The only value he has is as a 5th OF/PRer, and we have one of those in Gwynn. I don't see the reason to put forth the effort to sign a guy who's barely different than what we already have, minus the fact that he's got enough of a track record to prove he's probably never going to be more than what he already is, which is mediocre at best.
