  1. It's staggering that for as long as Hart has flat out sucked, he hasn't been pinch hit for or sat down for a game one single time. There were 452 guys in the dugout in September, but nobody was able to play a game for Hart. He sucks so bad right now that even when he does something right, (gets a single) he screws it up (got nailed by the throw behind him to first).
  2. Suppan has done what his career numbers would suggest, which is be consistently mediocre for 30 starts a year. Hammonds wasn't even on the field for half the time, and when he was, he was awful. That being said, Suppan starting a game of this magnitude sucks the big one.
  3. Make no mistake, for all it's "charm" and "history", Wrigley is a dump. It's a crap hole that's left standing for the same reason that guys like Joe Morgan think batting average is the key stat for evaluating offensive performance. They can't let go of the past. Seriously, it's 2008, there's nothing charming about peeing in a trough. There's nothing charming about sitting in tiny wooden seats. There's nothing charming about having awful sightlines in 30% of the park (or more). And there sure isn't anything charming about the entire place smelling like a mixture of urine, sweat, and roller grill hotdogs. Your stadium is urban blight that should be condemned. When concrete chunks started randomly falling out a few years back, that should have been the first clue. My only hope is that when that crap hole finally heaves it's last breath and collapses, nobody gets hurt.
  4. Paint ball gun, but the key is to have a hopper full of paintballs in your freezer. That hurts.
  5. Without looking up the numbers, I'm willing to bet even Pedro Feliz saves as many runs over Braun's defense at 3B than Braun creates compared to Feliz with his bat. Just because someone has a glove and has played a position in the past doesn't mean they should. I'm not really part of the "small ball/fundamental/playing the game right" religion, but if you fail to take defense into account it's going to cost you a lot of games. Braun was one of (if not THE) worst third basemen ever. Ever.
  6. But Scott Brosius plays the game right! Russ and others have said it before, but I'll repeat it. As a fan, watching small ball might be more exciting, but aestethically pleasing baseball doesn't necessarily mean you'll win more games. Run distribution is extraordinarily random, and even the teams that play "small ball" will have wild swings over the course of a season. There really isn't any correlation between the "style" of offense a team has and the run distribution. And Ryan Braun back to third? That's 100% counterproductive to trying to win more games.
  7. Even in a losing effort, I should be able to watch and enjoy the fact that we're in the playoffs, but this offense is so hopelessly, pathetically lost, that it's just painful. 1-2-3 in the order muster 2 popups and a strikeout. And now we have to face the fact that Hart will be batting next inning. Gah.
  8. Rarely will I complain about officiating, but that zone got smaller than a stamp all of a sudden. And Corey Hart sucks.
  9. Russ, I agree (again) that a part time Benny is a lot better than a lot of the guys that will give you 30 6 inning starts. And you're right, some guys that are injury prone shake the label, and some guys who have avoided the DL for a long time will suddenly run into problems. The predictability factor is pretty shaky. That being said, I still think you can look at Ben as *more* of a risk than someone who's been relatively healthy. Some people have pointed out that because all of his injuries are to different parts of his body that he's just been unlucky, and not necessarily "injury prone". I disagree with that, but I can at least see the merit of the argument.
  10. How much longer can Ben avoid the crippling injury that ends a season? I think at this point it's safe to say that Benny's dodging bullets, and he's about to be on the wrong side of 30. He can't keep having these "fluke" injuries and expect to just miss a start here or there. The Brewers will always have to spend carefully, and I wonder how much longer Ben's risk/reward meter will swing on the favorable side. We're not always going to have the luxury of having a 7 deep rotation (with someone like McClung or Villy in the pen) to fill in. I absolutely agree that 175 innings of what Benny gives you is worth 13-14-15 mil per, but I'm hesitant to believe that we can expect those kinds of innings from Benny going forward.
  11. But since it's different from all his other injuries, it's not a big deal.
  12. I think the key to the whole thing is that the guy himself didn't seem all that upset by it. Maybe a little miffed, but he said he hopes to play there in the future. If he's not in an uproar about it, I don't see what the big deal is.
  13. If Melvin and Attanasio have a falling out about the Ned firing, Melvin can blame himself. The mustached one's greatest weakness is his seeming unwillingness to sever bonds with people when it's in the best interest of the business. Had he (almost certainly rightfully) fired Ned last year, he wouldn't have been in the awkward position of having his owner telling him to drop the hammer with 12 games left. How many Texas retreads has he brough back? How many stupid, STUPID contracts (Brady Clark, Wes Helms, Derrick Turnbow) did he give out to guys who were fluke one year wonders that he claimed off the (s)crap heap? From an outsiders perspective, I get the impression that Doug does allow some amount of personal attachment to at times drive his business decisions, and this is the fallout. Ned, too bad you didn't get to ride the wave out to the end, as a manager, I don't feel bad for ya, but as I person, I can definately see how it would hurt.
  14. I'm glad that Ben gets to experience a playoff run and postseason play with the Brewers. He stuck it out for 8 years, taking a contract that went into his first 2 free agent years, when he could have played it year to year, and waited for the BIG payday. I'm glad that Ben's done in Milwaukee after this year, not making starts or not getting out of the 3rd inning in several starts per year with one nagging minor injury after the other. I don't hate the guy, I don't bear him ill will, I hope he cashes in and plays well for his new (american league) team. It's just that as a fan, it's tough to root for the guy when his constant, repetitive fluke injuries seem to take him out when the team needs him most. Yes yes, I know, he doesn't do it on purpose, and I know he wants to be on that mound. But that doesn't change the fact that he's not, and again, as a fan, that's just so frustrating to deal with. I realize that there's a strong chance that whoever he's replaced with won't be as good, and I can live with that.
  15. I was in my car on the way home from work on I-90. I was on the phone (headset, I don't use my hands!) with my brother when Durham flew out to the track. My brother said "he just missed it", and I said "it doesn't matter dude, Brauny's gonna do some yard work right here" Needless to say, on Uecks call, I almost lost control of the car.
  16. This team, this franchise, and these fans, really needed this postseason appearance. We've had the 82 Brewers force fed to us for years. We've been the answer to trivia questions that you don't want to be the answer to. We've had 2 monumental collapses in the last few years. This year, the casual fan packed the park to the tune of 3 million+ and BECAUSE of that, we're able to rent a guy like CC (and hopefully keep!) for a playoff run. The flipside is that the casual fan is quicker to turn away when things go sour. Is 3 months of CC and a playoff spot worth the potential of 6+ productive years of Laporta and Brantley? Maybe not, but one thing playoffs do is promote financial success in terms of ticket sales for the following season. One thing this franchise will constantly have to do is maximize income potential and really scrutinize every dollar they spend. I know a lot of people dislike the "casual" fan, and don't want bandwagon jumpers, but I say the more the merrier, and a playoff appearance will keep a lot of those bandwagoners around.
  17. I have a bold proposal. This thread should be locked and sunk! I know it's a necessary evil during the season, we all have ups and downs during 162, and there will be more over (hopefully) the next several weeks, and people need to vent.........but this thread full of hate and anger (which I'm told leads to this thing called "the dark side") should be washed away with all the crap that comes of 26 years of not making the playoffs.
  18. GAH!! I Was in my car on the way home from work when Braun hit his jack. On a side note, Molitor, Yount, coop, Thomas, Oglivie, Gantner, Simmons, Moore, Vuke and Fingers all just said "THANK GOD, NOW THEY CAN LEAVE US ALONE!!!!!!!!!!'
  19. Why are they not pinch running when the run that may save the SEASON has a bad hamstring?

  21. Well, when your 6-7-8-9 is Hart Counsell Kendall Pitcher that's really going to hamper your ability to score runs, let alone put together a big inning.

  23. Per ESPN, Hart has 15 hits this month (and a .192 OBP coming into today)

  25. Yesterday a AAA lineup scored 7 runs on us, today a motley collection of relievers (most with ERA's over 6) have one hit the Brewers for 6 innings. Words can't even describe how amazingly pathetic that is.
