Sure if he keeps it up, but in 2009 in spring training he hit .283/.358/.533 and then proceeded to have a typical Gomez season: .229/.287/.337. It'd be great if Gomez finally breaks out but really the Brewers should be planning on platooning him at this point but I doubt that is going to happen.
Keep in mind there are stupid injuries and "stupid injuries". Jeff Kent almost certainly did not hurt himself washing his truck (did he finally fully admit to the motorcycle crash?). I don't believe the venison hauling story for example.
Or Farris at SS is great news for Cruz since the Brewers expect Cruz to be in Milwaukee and are getting Farris ready to be the everyday SS in Nashville.
The Cardinals lost Wainwright for the season and the Phillies don't know how much Utley will be able to play and how good he will be if he can play. Losing Grienke for 2-3 starts doesn't really compare.
Almonte has basically been 1B/DH the past couple of years. If he could actually play SS he wouldn't be a career minor leaguer. Now he'd be a better option than Kotsay since having a LH backup 1B on the Brewers makes little sense. But expecting Almonte to cover the middle infield makes little sense as well.
I think Rivas has a shot but it depends on how many starts they really think they'll use them for. If its one or two more than a week apart I could see them having McClendon fill in. My guess is that Rogers could use the extra month in Arizona so no real need to rush him.
Mine is actually a Christmas gift so doing soemthing like that might seem gauche. That said don't these people realize that the included DLC is teh only difference and that's $7?
He's set to make $6m alone in 2013 if he stays healthy, no way he takes that deal.My guess for McGehee salary for the next 4 years assuming eh stays a 2.5-3 win player will be $500k (or whatever he got), $3m, $6m, $8m.
At this point I really wonder if the Kotsay signing was to get Weeks resigned. You have a guy with a post All Star break bonus almost encouraging you to cut him.
Fielder was upset because the CBA just changed raising the minimum. He thought he was going to get the raise based upon the minimum going up and his performance on the Brewers scale. He only got his performance incentive.
Has there even been one major league player that held out due to his contract? Yes if we get more foolish Tulo-type contracts things might change, but that contract is just so unnecessary that I doubt it starts a trend.
I wish that Haudricort would acknowledge it isn't just those "stat heads" who think Betancourt can't play defense but also anyone who scouted him the last three years.
Weeks didn't take a while. He hit right when he came up. He then got injured and his hitting and defense nose dived. Why they kept running out a guy who needed hand surgery I'll never know. Weeks was hitting .320/.435/.655 in AAA, there was absolutely no reason to keep him there when he was on a major league contract.
Well sure but that's because you can make the playoffs with a sub .500 record. You add 2 more teams to baseball's playoffs and suddenly you'll have a bunch of teams make the playoffs with near .500 records. But that isn't really a good thing if what you want to is award the best team the championship.
A maximum salary didn't keep LaBron in Cleveland. The more you limit salary the more important outside income is meaning players will go to New York or LA to get that extra million in endorsement money.
Pujols being on the market increases the chance Fielder leaves. The Yankees would make a place for Pujols. The Red Sox might make a place for Pujols. The more teams bidding on Pujols the more likely one who looses out does something stupid like offer an insane contract to Fielder.
