  1. How is this a low risk move? The Brewers could lose another player in order to bring in a washed up vet who isn't better than anyone on the roster and who can't play the field.
  2. I think the big issue is that Young can't really handle short. Andrus wasn't the only reason he was moved and his defense at 3B the past 2 seasons has been below average. He's an average starter right now paid at an All Star level.
  3. The big issue is if Pujols is 31 or really 33. But as good as Wainright has been the past two seasons, Pujols was still 4 wins better.
  4. In 2006 the Brewers had the 2nd highest ERA in the NL at 4.82. Not sure how you can say that is "really good" Because ERA is a terrible stat when you have bad fielders. Sheets was superb for 1/2 a season, Capuano, and Bush were all above 3.8 WAR and Davis was at 2.8. That's a very good rotation.
  5. They can likely track what sites she looks at. Not sure if they can see what is on those sites.
  6. Have you ever seen Marcum play? How do you know he's better? The Brewers have had really good pitching staff just a few years ago (2006) and lost a ton of games due to bad fielders and hitters.
  7. Pujols believes he already gave the Cardinals a home town discount. Which he did. I don't think he'll get 30m per over 10 years and even if he does it will be likely be done with him getting $5m/year to work with the Cardinals until he's 65.
  8. It would also mean less Brainerd on camera which is a win all around
  9. Well I think we might now know why Cashman wants to get fired. The Yankees look to be entering another Steinbrenner era, this time with Hank calling the shots: http://sports.espn.go.com...lb/news/story?id=6068830 God that has to be a horrible place right now, and that's without the big ego rich New Yorkers thinking they should have a direct line to Cashman for tickets.
  10. Cashman seems to be wanting to get himself fired
  11. I just don't understand the whole give Betancourt a chance thing. Why? What is out there that says well he could be OK? RBIs/AB while ignoring the AB circumstances? Looking back to when he was 24 and ignoring everything since then? Betancourt is a replacement level talent (well so is Kotasy at this point..) and you try to get those guys out of starting positions. Everyone said the same about Suppan and they (we) were right then too! I guess I'm not sure why people are surprised when fans want the Brewers to replace not a just a below average starter but a replacement level player to make the team better.
  12. He's 7 years younger than Counsell and could play much more often. Yeah playing him at 3B is stupid but that isn't what we are talking about.
  13. I actually want nothing to do with a Marcum extension unless for some reason if comes in far below market value.
  14. He didn't outpitch him last year. Greinke's WAR was 5.2, Pavano's 3.2. Pavano, at least this year, is better than Narveson, but likely at the 1-1.5 win level and next year it would decline further. Given that getting a decent shortstop can make that difference up at 1/4 the cost Pavano isn't really worth given the 2nd year on the contract and the draft pick.
  15. It isn't lousy, its right in line with market rates. Uggla's deal is a problem for Uggla because he won't or shouldn't be at 2B for most of it, perhaps starting in 2012. Weeks doesn't have that issue. $12m buys 2.4-2.6 wins right now.
  16. Even including his terrible defensive year of 2006 with a WAR of 0.9, Weeks has average a WAR of 2.72 over the past 5 seasons, 3.175 over the last 4. Even when Weeks misses time he still gives good value and that seems to be what people are missing.
  17. Defensive value and age. Weeks is 2.5 years younger.
  18. Right, but he has 3 years before FA. Fielder has 1. You sign Fielder to a 6 year deal you get his prime plus 1 or 2 down years. You already have most of Votto's prime.
  19. Podsednik as a full time player had 0.4 WAR Gomez as a part time player had 1.1 Podsednik is a terrible defensive player at this point.
  20. Do you even want to sign Votto to a long contract extension though? Keep in mind he's already 27.
  21. I still think Detroit makes a run at him even with Victor Martinez. Martinez's bat isn't that great for DH.
  22. I'd rather have Milledge than Boggs. But that is really about it.
  23. Christina Taylor-Green was the granddaughter of Dallas Green who manged the 1980 World Champion Phillies among other teams. Chirstina's father works for the Dodgers in player development. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6007667 This really isn't about the shooting itself more just about the news of how it relates to baseball so feel free to lock.
  24. No he didn't wait. Capuano got hurt. Sheets got hurt. Bush regressed. The Brewers had very good pitching in the middle of the decade before the offense came around.
