  1. A #3 pitcher is a 2 win pitcher and they do cost $8-10m as FAs.
  2. It would take something like Gamel, Lawrie and Jeffress to get Greinke.
  3. There are 2 rules. The first is that if a player signs a FA contract he can't be traded before June 15th of teh same year. That doesn't apply to Hart. The second rule is that any player with 5 or more years of service who gets traded in the midst of a multi-year contract can then demand to be traded from his new team. That does apply to Hart.
  4. Hart can demand a trade of any team that gets him or he becomes a FA at the end of the year. Trading him is very unlikely.
  5. He wasn't that good last year. His control was spotty and he needs to slowly work up his innings anyway. Have him as the injury call up from AAA and he'll liekly be up by June for a while anyway.
  6. My problem isn't the letter grades as such its that they have no sort of scale to give an idea how they grade. Is an A an MVP-type performance? An All-Star performance? Based upon the limitations of the player? Fielder and Hart's grades suggest the last one but then Narveson should have gotten an A too because he maxxed out his talent. That's the problem and then the grades might as well be random.
  7. I don't even know where to begin. They give really no basis to which to understand how they grade. I'll just say they gave Weeks a B and say that pretty much sums up all you need to know.
  8. Loney doesn't stink. He was 1 point below average with a 99 OPS+ this season. I wouldn't call that a bad $5m investment for a player that is basically giving you about league average production. I wouldn't be surprised to see Loney have a break out year if he played anywhere but in the NL West. He's a below average hitter at the greatest offensive position. His WAR for his last 3 years: 0.7, 1.6, 1.2. That's bad
  9. I think you can't eliminate the Dodgers. Loney stinks as is about to get paid about $5m to do so and Manny is gone leaving a hole and lots of money. Now the divorce complicates things but Fielder makes sense for them. I still think if the Brewers really want to compete next season, you hang on to Fielder and take the picks, trade McGehee whose trade value should be higher anyway and have Gamel fill in at 3B for a year which also give you a year to evaluate Lawrie at 3B.
  10. I'd go up to the 8 GBs right away and get Windows 64 bit. And might as well spend the $10 to go up to 1 TB drive.
  11. As Jack Moore points out, Weeks had 142 more PAs than did Hart. http://disciplesofuecker....e-text-to-vote-mvp-poll/
  12. Yes it was for real. He was terrible in the middle part of the season and had below normal power in an August that was entirely BABIP driven.. Most thought he was injured. Did he finally get healthy? Maybe.
  13. And if Halladay would have waived his no-trade to come to Milwaukee we would have traded for the best pitcher in baseball.
  14. Its Weeks.
  15. The company seems to be named after the city in Japan in which it was first founded. Though Komatsu is also a fairly common Japanese name.
  16. Capuano has really embraced Milwaukee, probably more so than any athlete since at least Vin Baker (him leaving Milwaukee likely killed his career). I doubt he has his east side apartmetn anymore sicne he has been rehabbing but I think he is one who is more leikly to come here than look elsewhere.
  17. Webb looks to be one of those guys the Red Sox sign for $5m with hopes he's ready in July.
  18. If I'm not mistaken, 2004 was Weeks' first full year in the minors (Huntsville). Maybe cadillacjosh was thinking 2007 or 2008. I was thinking 2005, where Weeks destroyed AAA then came up in June and held his own until he got injured and they kept pushing him out there. His OPS by month: .785, .784, .716, .641
  19. Weeks in 2004 was dealing with a mjor injury. Gomez has no clue what he is doing. They are not similar. Gomez should be in AAA to see if he can get anything together. And I'm not sure in what universe Cain and Gomez had similar numbers. OK both had a WAR of 0.8; one achieved that in 37 games, the other in 93.
  20. At a lower level. Escobar age 22 at that same level last year .353/.409/.762. Luis Cruz age 26 this year .309/.414/.723. I am not a fan of Escobar but he is much better than Cruz. I have no idea why he was named an all-star. All the good SS must have been promoted to the majors. Edit: Gomez would have to pass through waivers to be sent to the minors. We also cannot remove him from the 40-man roster without his consent. He could request to be released right away or at the end of the season. Getting Gomez through waivers in the spring shouldn't be an issue.
  21. Japan doesn't "baby" their pitchers and they're often done by age 30
  22. I don't know if it is or is not a "small market", but at least you have provided some evidence beyond Joe Morgan's "they signed Mauer for $184 million...".http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I think the Twins also benefit from being a long distance from any other team. The nearest teams to them are Milwaukee, St. Louis, KC, Colorado, and Seattle. Meanwhile Milwaukee has Chicago 90 miles away, with two teams that each have been around continuously for over 100 years. They aren't small because they are 16th in the nation. Now its not as ridiculous as pretending Miami is a small market. Here's the list of US metro areas: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...olitan_Statistical_Areas They're not NY or LA because no one else really is. But they are right in line with other mid markets. (fixed link --1992)
  23. The Rays make money. They just don't make huge amounts. The owner is lying through his teeth. Yeah if he cuts payroll they'll make more. It the Marlins way! And Minneapolis/St.Paul isn't a small market. Making a ordinal ranking is a bad way to look at things, especially when you have 2 teams in New York, LA, Chicago and San Francisco. The Minneapolis/ St. Paul metro area is 16th in the nation at 3.2m in line with Seattle, San Diego, and St Louis (at 2.8m). Tampa is weird because while its at 2.7m that doesn't include the Orlando metro area of 2m. The small amrkets in baseball are Milwaukee (who is almost a class by itself), Kansas city, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh (though Pittsburgh isn't really that small).
  24. So anyone here know what the deals at Target and KMart for Civ 5 are? Target supposedly has a $10 gift card according to the Civ5 site but there was nothign in there ad. KMart has a $20 coupon on future game purchases but I really don't see that much I'd want to buy that KMart would actually stock in the next few months (though maybe the new Professor Layton game...) and their ad listed the game at $59 which I assume was just a misprint.
  25. Well it's a 25in. monitor
