  1. This was the deepest starters market the league has seen in years and the Brewers ended up with Looper. Its harder to sign top pitchers than people seem to think.
  2. If Lowell is healthy yes, LaRoche is on the bench.
  3. If Lowell is healthy yes, LaRoche is on the bench.
  4. Braun is having a disastrous July and is a big reason why the Brewers have been spinning their wheels. This July he's hit .217/.250/.319 which is even worse then his terrible September last year (.208/.304/.356) when he was battling his back injury. If he is having serious back issues that completely changes the brewers outlook going forward.
  5. Looper has been atrocious this year. Why exactly is a question. He has lost velocity with his fastball.
  6. Cody and Dillard are better than McClung.
  7. No it won't. Cleveland has no reason to deal Lee since they aren't in the AL east and can easily compete next season.
  8. Cameron needs to get more ABs than that. He should hit 2nd. Even when Hardy comes around Cameron is the better hitter.
  9. The Jays have Scutaro for the short term, they don't need Hardy. That makes it a 3 team deal which is almost impossible to pull together.
  10. No its all relative to luck. The Cubs were by far the best team in the NL last season with the top starters everyone assumes are needed to go far in the playoffs. Then they got swept in 3 games. And I doubt most fans will care if they trade Escobar for Halladay and not make the World Series. They will care if they don't make the trade and fail to get to the playoffs.
  11. There is no special World Series level team that's different from a playoff team.
  12. I wouldn't be. He only made $3.5m last year so he'll likely be looking for a multiyear deal and a raise.
  13. The problem is who comes up if Braun or Hart gets injured now? Sure Cat will play against RHP but who would platoon with him? 2B has to be the deepest part of the club with Heether and Iribarren in AAA. Gillespie isn't great shakes but the Brewers are thin in OF right now. Not a huge deal but getting Lopez isn't a huge upgrade either. EDIT: Just so its here Lopez's ROS ZiPS: .282/.350/.391
  14. Because he'll get a raise most likely no matter what given he gains a year of service time. Right now it would be slight, but a great 2nd half could get him up to $8m. There is no way his pay will drop.
  15. So the Brewers trade away outfield depth for another 2B who might be slightly better than Heether. Or not. Well the pick is nice.
  16. Hardy will make like $8m at most next season (he's only making $4.65m this season), not sure why people are acting like he'll break the bank.
  17. Ramirez is under contract until 2014 and doesn't get expensive until 2012 ($15m)
  18. God not Zito. Robertson would make some sense. He takes over for McClung as a 6th starter in the pen
  19. The were 13-5 vs Houston in 2007 (yep 18 games) and 10-5 vs St. Louis last year. You can always pick out something like that (3-0 vs Cle this year, 4-2 vs Houston).
  20. The big issue is that Halladay isn't just this year, its next year as well. He would make the Brewers divison favorites. Say you make a trade for Halladay of Escobar, Lawrie and Green. Now that means you'll likely rebuild in 2011, but you'll have the pieces to do it. Halladay and Hardy walk for picks. Hart gets traded, Fielder likely gets traded, Bush gets traded, Weeks may get traded. Now if the Brewers win the World Series in 2010 that likely won't happen, but thats a lot of talent to move and lots of picks to quickly rebuild.
  21. No I know, but I thought if a player had less than 2 years remaining it ends up being moot since they need to give notice by May of the year they want to leave as a FA.
  22. The Brewers can't trade Parra for Halladay and in no way for Hallday and Rolen. They will need a cheap pitcher if they get Halladay. I thought that if traded in the middle of a multiyear it was the following May you had to decide and became a FA at the end of that season. Not sure where I got that from but the details I remember were pretty specific so I don't know. Anyone know the relevant part of the labor agreement?
  23. The point is that people think of Escobar as an in his prime Luis Castillo. He isn't that.
  24. Except Escobar isn't a contact hitter. He K'd 82 times last season and K'd 56 times this season so far. Meaning 100 Ks in the majors is very likely
  25. The problem with getting David Bell was that David Bell was allowed to play after he showed he couldn't anymore.
