  1. They are guaranteed for FA eligible players I believe.
  2. The fanbase that should be livid over this isn't the Brewers' its the Mets who need a 2B and a bat to fill in at 1B.
  3. Neither knew in November/December. If the Brewers knew no way do they offer $12m for a pitcher who wouldn't pitch next year. And if Sheets knew no way does he turn down that money.
  4. Seattle is not trading Hernandez. They have enough chips (Washburn, Bedard, Beltre, Branyan) to get prospects without trading a cheap young pitcher. In addition in no way is that enough to get Hernandez much less Hernandez and Fields.
  5. Lee's contract is huge though. He's owed $18.5m for the next 3 years. Adam Dunn is out there for half the price and half the time.
  6. Yes if this was about health issues instead of grandstanding chew would be against the rules of MiLB. That said, Jeffress has gotten warnings about this, was suspended about this and was caught again. While many his age are using to no consequence, he can't and still has. At this point he looks to be a bust for non-baseball reasons which is sad. Now we can argue about the stupidity of a three strikes system (not sure how taking away a guy's work helps) but the rules aren't changing.
  7. Dunn's defense is so bad that Hart to Dunn is pretty much a wash. Basically 2B is the only place the Brewers can really look to upgrade.
  8. Who would take Lee? But even then Oswalt, Berkman, and Lee all have full no trade clauses. Tejeda might go somewhere. And Valverde probably should be moved but figuring out the Astros' machinations is tough. Moore might think Valverde is another lifetime Astro.
  9. Thing is Redd was not a jump shooter at Ohio State. He was mostly a slasher but he could only really go left. It worked fine in college but pros can go either way on defense.
  10. If his shoulder injury was known to be that severe the Brewers would never have offered arby. The fact is that is another black mark against the Brewers training staff that they so greatly missed the extent of the injury.
  11. Francouer is not a major league player. He stinks. The Brewers have plenty of talent better than Francouer. The Brewers would get the same value running Hall out to RF.
  12. Me driving a car doesn't make me an automotive engineer
  13. Yeah but you don't know if the Nats promised him a spot somewhere and then reneged. Its's the Nats and it was Jim Bowden.
  14. Last I saw he was in independent ball ( a possible case of blacklisting/head case but then keep in mind he was dealing with the Nats...). He's hardly a world beater but for free talent you're not going to get better...
  15. Or that Hardy in 2011 plus Escobar for a year more during Escobar's peak when he'll be the most valuable plus picks are a better return.
  16. Not sure how pointing out Suppan has been lucky means everyone else is super unlucky. Suppan has pitched as poorly as everyone else its just not shown up in his ERA.
  17. No one said Bush has been unlucky. He's given up a ton of home runs but home runs are only partially controlled by a pitcher. xFIP assumes a normal home run rate. As you can see all 4 have home run rates higher than normal and for Looper its really shocking because over his career he's been below average with home runs. The Brewers could have gotten a better ptcther but they signed Looper for $6m now they'll end up paying like $4-6m for another pitcher for half a year.
  18. Suppan has been as bad as everyone else. He's just been luckier. XFIP: Looper 4.52, Bush 4.86, Parra 4.94, Suppan 5.12 Now I personally think that while HR rates are more volatile they still have value so FIP: Parra 5.10, Looper 5.51, Suppan 5.52, Bush 5.87 Bush is the only one who you can somewhat expect to outperform his xFIP/FIP but his HR rate has to return to normal. The big question is why have the Brewer's pitcher been giving up so many HRs?
  19. When Al Leiter was working the booth a few years back he said more interesting things during one game than Tim McCarver has ever said in front of a camera
  20. Hittracker has Mauer with a bunch of home runs just at 350 feet, so its a decent amount of luck with his power.
  21. Not that significant, more just evidence that Gamel hasn't done much to contradict the scouting reports or the obvious unease the coaching staff has with his defense. And at this point there while Gamel has handled LHP in the minors there is little reason not to assume he carries the typical platoon advantage
  22. Well Polahd's dead so there is a chance the Twins don't give him an insulting offer or trade him with one year remaining.
  23. He hasn't made huge strides. His UZR/150 is -6.5. The coaches obviously don't trust his glove. If it wasn't Hall replacing him it would be Counsell or McGehee. Should they send him down? Its a toss up but its not like he hasn't been given playing time and protecting him from left handed pitchers isn't evil, its putting him in the best place to succeed.
  24. Well its Spring but Spring lasts until June 21. EA likely will want it out before then but March would seem much more likely than January given Dragon Age comes out in November meaning that most of Bioware will be on QA for that title starting in September.
  25. The PA signed off on a world wide draft at the last CBA. They basically said that if the owners came up with something fairly reasonable they'll sign off on it. Keep in mind the PA would love to have more talent in the draft and caps on draft slots because it frees up more money to spend on existing players. The owners never got a proposal together. One thing that keeps being overlooked is how much this isn't a union-ownership thing but a small revenue large revenue thing. Large market teams want to be able to run independent camps in Latin America because their money gives them an advantage. Same thing with draft slots. And baseball ownership rules are super majoritarian, basically you need 25 votes or so to get something down. When you already have the two New York teams, the Cubs, the Angels, and the Red Sox not wanting to give up anything you just need three more large market teams to block something.
