  1. The Offsrping, Better than Ezra--its like a 10 year time warp
  2. I wish Gillespie was fully healthy
  3. Of all the players to worry about too little body fat, Zambrano is not one of them
  4. Has anyone seen enough of Nashville to know if Iribarren's doubles output is the effect of power or speed?
  5. Its not every player. The Brewers know who they are targeting as real prospects and guys who are filler/getting their college coaching resume together.
  6. Cain's back to back injuries likely does make this a lost year for him.
  7. One year difference between RF and 3B isn't enough to keep forcing Gamel 3B especially since Hart has decent trade value.
  8. The point is Fielder wasn't going to get better at 1B no matter how long he was working at AAA. For Gamel he either has to show improvement at 3B or get moved this year in AAA (likely RF). Either way sitting on the bench in Milwaukee won't accomplish that.
  9. I would feel much better about it being true if it wasn't being doen for a book. Book editors are much more lax about fact checking then are news outlets and book publishers have an incentive to throw out anything that might goose sales
  10. Its a really bad article which one can expect from Dave Cameron who really has little clue what he's talking about and takes criticism really poorly. Most point estimates on players are very broad and hence small changes in point estimates aren't that significant. Imagine two different graphs representing probability weight for a point estimate, one and inverted "V" the other an inverted "U" with the point estimate being the maximum point on the inverted letters. For the "V" a shift one direction or the other tells us a lot, for the "U" it really tells us very little. Baseball estimates are in the "U" family.
  11. No they really aren't capable of being productive. Jenkins would maybe give you a 750-780 OPS while platooned. Catalanatto would be worse with horrendous defense. Edmonds might be able to give you something.
  12. The difference there is Fielder had nothing to really work on in the minors. Gamel needs to learn a defensive position be it 3B/1B/OF at some point this season.
  13. Cameron right now is better and its not really close. Hunter hasn't been the same since his foot injury. Hunter hasn't had a positive UZR/150 since 2005 and last year he was at -13.0 while Cameron was at +15.6.
  14. If Cole Gillespie can get going he'd be a call up but right now Irribarren makes the most sense.
  15. Its hard to say, the last three games he was 1 for 12 with no walks and 6Ks. It could be random variation or something might have popped.
  16. If its one thing the Brewers have shown under Doug Melvin is the ability to develop power bats with questionable defensive prowess. Fielder, Braun, LaPorta, Gamel, Salome. The Brewers turn them out constantly. It only makes sense to take from this strength to fill a weakness. Again you take the chance. The Brewers started out 3-7 this year. They add another 3-7 right after and their season would be over. There are too any variables to account for to pass up an opportunity to get to the playoffs when you have the chance.
  17. When you have a shot at the playoffs you take it because you never know what will happen. For instance your star LFer might develop a chronic back injury that makes him miss 60 games a year...
  18. It will be really close to a year if he stays up the entire year. But it might just be until Hafner gets back.
  19. As soon as they get that Denny McClain case of tipping his pitches to Mickey Mantle taken care of...
  20. Its one thing to allow Bush to pass through waivers, its another to let Hardy go through waivers. I don't see it happening.
  21. ARod was a top and I mean top prospect. Those types tend to find college conditioning coaches suddenly "available" down at the local U.
  22. There are still Saturday afternoon blackouts for Fox
  23. That was the point. Othe teams might not have a plce for Nelson in MLB but they have places where he would have a greater chance of playing time than in Milwaukee
