  1. Unless the Brewers feel Nelson can't play OF at all there is no reason for Nixon to be on the the major league team at this time.
  2. If they would move Hall it would be Lamb/McGehee at 3B with the hope that Gamel would be up by June.
  3. Garland is not anywhere near Suppan. Suppan was above average once in the last 4 years (2007). Garland was basically average last year and good for the previous three years. Now his heavy workload calls into question how good he can be, but say at 2yrs/$15m he'd be a great pickup.
  4. now the problem I have with that is the mantra is usually "just put the bat on teh ball!" But there's ahuge difference between a randomly selected ball in play and a ball hit by a defensive swing to put it in play.
  5. Perez's FIP was 4.68 last year. He was 1.3 wins above replacement. That's below average. In 2007 his FIP was 4.35 and he was 2.2 wins above replacement, or just slightly above average. The fact that he played in front of a very good defensive infield doesn't make him a great pitcher.
  6. Garland is coming off a poor year(for him that is, it was average for a starter) and was still likely expecting to get a raise over the $12m per he was making. A lot like Sheets he probably has been taken a back by a lack of offers and likely is hesitant to take a pay cut.
  7. The most import thing though is Perez is a below average pitcher that some people think is good. Some CHONE projections: Sheets 148 innings 3.84 FIP Oliver Perez 166 innings 4.97 FIP Odalis Perez 134 innings 4.64 FIP (fewer inning due to fewer starts given he'd be a #5) Oliver Perze was bad in 2003, very good in 2004, terrible in 2005 and 2006, average in 2007 and below average last year. And he wants 8 figures per.
  8. The only problem with the Counsell signing is that it would seem they won't use Hall in a sub role at short which even furtehr reduces his use to teh Brewers. This maybe just backup in case they are able to move Hall for an overpriced pitcher (Washburn, Contreras(?), Robertson, Davis(?), Schmidt, etc)
  9. It could just be a corrupted update download. Try restoring your computer to about a month ago and see if its goes away.
  10. Except that I can't build it for that price. A Intel Core Duo 2 Quad Q9300 is $250 for the CPU alone, a Q8200 is $170. Add in $100 for a motherboard, $100 for an OS and I'm at $370-$450 without a case, power supply, hard drive, or memory.
  11. Actually thats wrong, Hall was worth what he was paid, just not much more. The problem is his raise and lessen playign tiem means goign forward he won't be. And yes his HR rate is fine, but his SLG collapsed below his 2005 rate.
  12. Except Hall's problem isn't his plate discipline as such, its the fact that his BA fell off and his power went away.
  13. A Hall for Washburn deal could work out for both teams
  14. How are you handling the receipts for your business? I guess I'm askign that if you are already using a intuit product (quicken) you may just want to get the premier turbotax software.
  15. Yeah, even spending $50 can give you a decent card plus 512MB of video memory: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...aspx?Item=N82E16814500062 Or $100 can get you a very good card: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...aspx?Item=N82E16814150316 Either of which would give you greater power and reduce the strain on the system for allocating video memory. The big problems with this computer are the 300w power supply which many companies are throwing in now (300w is just really pathetic) and the fact that the mother board is exhausted at 4 GB of memory.
  16. Yep, and if the Brewers were worried they wouldn't have offered arbitration.
  17. Yep it really isn't that hard. Things to keep in mind is that it will reinstall all the crap that the OEM puts with new computers (AOL free for 30 days!) and you'll need to set aside a decent amount of time for updates (4-6 hours) and to put on firewall/spyware stuff.
  18. A huge amount of downside risk? I think that is an extremely pessimistic way to look at things. You might as well say "Never sign any decent player to a contract for more than about $4 million per year, because they could play well below expectations for some freak reason that no one can predict." Fielder was under Brewer control. The Brewers were protected from missed time due to injury, career ending injury, or poor performance. They gave all that up for zero cost savings.
  19. I still don't see why the Brewers did this. They assumed a huge amount of downside risk without any break in salary.
  20. Salome is also a year younger than Gamel
  21. Actually players come and go, announcers stay forever. Bill Castro is likely the only left from when Jim started
  22. If the Brewers want to take a flyer on a 3B type, sign Nomar he at least has a decent upside.
  23. Fielder has been just as valuable as Howard over the past two seasons.
  24. A 2 year deal including this year makes no sense. Buying out the rest of arby makes some sense, but buying out just one more year in this market absolutely does not.
  25. I'm not basing it just on his injury or his season last year but the fact that he projects poorly. CHONE has him with a FIP of 5.01, better than what he did last season but still not much more than 1 win above replacement. And thats the 50th percentile.
