  1. The problem I have with the list is how arbitrary it is. You include Carlos Lee but don't include Tori Hunter when both have the same contract and Lee is actually younger and was better last year?
  2. This is due to Gwynn's injury but got me curious about how it would work. Say Jim Edmonds comes to the Brewers saying he'd like to play in Milwaukee for $1m. That would basically mean that Gwynn who was fighting for a job anyway would have no place. If he was healthy he would be DFA'd and Edmonds given his 40 man spot. But he's injured. Now if this was May the Brewers would attempt to DFA Gwynn, he'd file a grievance due to injury and the Brewers would be forced to put him on the 60 Day DL. But there is no DL available right now correct? So what would happen if the Brewers tried to DFA Gwynn today? Are they forced to carry him on the 40 man until the 60 Day DL becomes available?
  3. Actually Cabrera is underpaid. He's likely a 2-3 win player getting paid at a one win level.
  4. A look at markets and relative unemployment rates: http://www.baseballdailydigest.com/blogs/2009/02/18/the-economy-and-baseball/
  5. Well that depends on Gagne actually being able to pitch of course
  6. Yeah who do those Pirates think they are with those big afros sticking up under their caps?
  7. Based on what? The NBA falling behind Football, Baseball, College Football and NASCAR on most fan polls. The World Series despite being in the middle on fall premier season usually garner a 50% higher rating than NBA finals during the middle of summer.
  8. Thing is the Royals are already paying Farnsworth $4.5m and Mahay $4m while running Mike Jacobs and his $3.25m salary out to1B in the best 1B/DH market ever. Cruz is a nice player but the Royals are actually covered for set up men while thin almost everywhere else.
  9. Best Buy is running a promotion that if you buy an Xbox console (or the more interesting part) or Xbox Live product (includuing 1 month Xbox live subs for $8) you get 2 coupons for free tickets.
  10. Thew NBA is a third tier sport that the press treats on the same level as football and baseball when it just isn't.
  11. Madoff paid it out to those who withdrew funds. He took his cut of course. Basically Madoff did what Steve and Barry's did, took big upfront sums to pay off people withdrawing money while doing nothing else. It's a basic Ponzi scheme. Sanford, its still unclear if it was always Ponzi like Madoff or if there are some bad investments that he tried to cover up.
  12. When main recipients of the money are Jose Guillen (12 m), Mike Jacobs(3.25m for arguably the worst starting position player in the major leagues),Willie Bloomquist (1.5m), and Teahen (3.575m) a guy they don't even know they have a position for it isn't a good thing.
  13. He doesn't have great speed, he has huge holes in swing evident by his large K totals, he has no power, and his defensive is only good. I'd take Irribarren over him easily since Irribarren can play 2B, is 2 years younger (Gwynn is 26!) and has shown a modicum of power.
  14. How does Lawrie not have a position? The fact they moved him from catcher to 2b where most thought he'd be anyway?
  15. Didn't think he sounded like Powell at all. And someone make sure to tell him West Bend is a city in Wisconsin, West Bend Insurance is a major sponsor
  16. Posada catches if he ever gets healthy so no Kendall over him assuming he does get healthy. I'm not sure th Yankees know who's catching if Posada isn't healthy. Its difficult to take Hart over Matsui pr Swisher, they seem pretty even.
  17. There are unlikely any assets there to be unfrozen.
  18. Cameron is 3-4 wins better than either Edmunds or Abreu defensively. Abreu is actually likely closer to 5 wins after you move Hart to center. And Edmunds needs to be platooned. 4 wins for $5m is a bargain.
  19. Edmonds in CF :-24.5 runs Cameron in CF: 17.2 runs Abreu in RF:-23.1 runs This isn't a close discussion.
  20. Since Lamb is mostly getting paid by the Twins this year can the Brewers basically cut him at anytime without any financial hit? I understand the Brewers pay the minimum while he's with the team but if he is released do the Brewers still owe any money? Anyone know?
  21. Nelson will almost certainly be gone. He becomes a free agent if he makes it through waivers and its hard to see him sticking with the Brewers if they choose to go with a broken down Nixon over him. He'll go to a team where he'll get a better chance of being in the majors. Irribarren would need to be kept on a major league roster so it depends how many teams have utility infielder spot open. Irribarren is clearly a better option than paying $1.5 m for Willie Bloomquist but once you have Bloomquist that ship has sailed. I wonder if Pena got DFA'd ahead of Gwynn because Gwynn's injury would have forced the Brewers to do additional shuffling...
  22. The fact that Chase Utley didn't come right to mind tells us how badly he is underrated.
  23. You mean the same MLB that was threatening to suspend him based on a test they promised would not lead to suspension? Yeah, that would be a good move. There is a reason ARod has been so evasive, Selig feels like grandstanding and there are legal consequences and withe Bonds case imploding again who knows whats next.
  24. Not sure how good a fielder Cecil was, by his third full year he was already playing 1/4 of the games at DH. That doesn't happen if you're a great fielder.
  25. Well lets be honest, all that will happen is the Bucks will draft someone who is expected to spend the next 3 years in Europe. and depending upon whre they fall in the draft not having to give a 18+ pick a gauranteed deal isn't exactly a bad thing.
