  1. The mistake was not retaining Branyan. Lamb could very well be done. Counsell is Counsell.
  2. He doesn't get paid too much, Duncan, LeBron and Kobe just get paid too little. The NBA salary cap hurts the best players most
  3. My guess is that this isn't an issue as Escobar will need two full year in AAA anyway. But I think people are really underestimating how much talent the Brewers have gotten from the farm system and how unusual that really is. The Brewers have 4 4+ win players in Braun, Hardy, Fielder and Gallardo. That's a huge amount. If Hart gets his form back he can join them. Thats 5 players at an All Star level. That just doesn't happen all that often. Counting on it happening all the time is dangerous.
  4. The Yankees need to move Kennedy. He's never going to break into the rotation ahead of Sabathia, Wang, Burnett, Chamberlain, and Hughes and he's already 24. He has one year of "prospect" status left. There is such a thing as valuing your prospects too highly. Two wins this year are more important than having a #3 you can't use next year.
  5. McGehee over Lamb isn't bad if they expect Gamel up in June or so. They DFA McGehee and put in Gamel. That said I expect McGehee and Counsell to basically hit the same.
  6. I really doubt that. Swisher+Kennedy for Beltre makes sense for both teams. Mora should be available and he can then fill in for whichever OFer goes down if ARod gets back
  7. I think people don't fully realize how good Hardy is right now. He was by far the best Brewers position player last year with a value of $22.2m ahead of Cameron and Braun who were basically tied at $18.5m. $15m a year for him would be a great contract (depending on length of course). The question is would that money be better spent on Hardy or somewhere else and allow Escobar to take over in 2011 (I don't see Escobar doing well enough in AAA to allow the Brewers to waste a year of Fielder and Braun together in 2010. In many was the future is now but thats another topic).
  8. Arod's bat could play DH, Escobar's bat will struggle to play MI. As to Hardy just getting power, Hardy had an ISO of .149 as a 20 year old in the SL when the SL was a pitcher's paradise. As a 21 year old Escobar had an ISO of 106 in a much more neutral SL. The Brewers did really screw up how they brought Hardy up, bascially killing a year of service time to save a few dollars.
  9. If the Brewers are going to pay $15m for a 3B, instead of keeping Hardy they should pay $15m for a true 3B. Thats the whole point. An .820 OPS 3B isn't a $15m player.
  10. Was Hornsby being an ass? Yes. Did Tom pick the worst way possible to deal with this? Yes.
  11. My guess is the difference in run value between 1 & 2 is great then the difference between 2 & 20. A big bunch of very similar hitters
  12. What really is amazing is how Pujols laps the field
  13. Go to newegg and get one for about $30
  14. The reason for the various price points are older systems that do have backwards compatibility are sold for more than new systems that don't. Since PS2s are plentiful no reason to pay the premium. Not sure what your tie frame is, there is a rumored price break coming up but there was one before and all that turned out to be was a change in HD size. So you have the 80GB at $399 and the 160 GB at $499. As for deals, depending on how you feel about credit cards and putting money on them, through the Sony site you can apply for a Playstation Visa and get $100 credit when you buy as PS3. If you put $3000 on the card in 6 months you get another $200 in credit. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644604396
  15. If Nelson doesn't make the team I see very little reason to think he'll still be in the Brewer system. Irribarren could make it through waivers at the cut down point and Gwynn looks to be headed to the 60 day DL. If Irribarren passes through waivers he stays with the brewers, Nelson though becomes a FA and you'd think he'd go someplace where he'd have a better shot at playing time.
  16. Of course 150 games is just entirely arbitrary. Melvin Mora played 148 and then 154 in 2006 and 2007 at 34,35.
  17. But thats assuming he plays enough for his defensive value to be realized. If he ends up in a platoon thats not going to happen.
  18. Actually it sounds that 2 months maybe a minimum now and the Yankees are now talking aboue taking the Brewer approach (go day to day for a month and then have surgery). So what 3b are available? Mike Lowell--If it wasn't the BoSox this would make sense, but its worth $9m to the Sox to hurt the Yankees. Melvin Mora--Makes some sense and the Orioles likely would move him if he would waive his no trade clause Scott Rolen---His salary makes him available Adrian Beltre--As much as USS Mariner keeps pretending that an expected 75 win team has a chance, he's likely the most available and makes the most sense. (Beltre for Swisher+?)
  19. More than Hall it means the Yankees will come about Cameron again. Cameron and Lamb (who the Yankees can just cut in a month) for Cabrera and Kennedy.
  20. Herb Kohl has nothing to do with Kohl's department store, never had
  21. No his good hustle, good first step and strong arm cancel out the bad throws he makes
  22. Too many businesses have $5m lying around which is why US bonds are so high.
  23. No it gives LA more money in the future. They take $5m now and instead of giving it to Manny they stick it in a CD at 5%. That means next year they have $250,000 more to spend.
  24. I doubt it. It just makes the contract cheaper.
  25. Ok then. I thought there wasn't a DL after the end of the season until the beginning of the new one. Yeah I realize in this case there are other options to take the spot, it was more that this case brought the question up.
