  1. Different steroids do different things. Up until the early 90s, steroid use wasn't meant for adding huge muscle mass since teams really didn't want large muscular guys. Instead it was used to help with healing. Basically steroids help the body recover faster. Its the main reason we know that pitchers started taking steroids back in the 1960s.
  2. Ryan Howard demanded a trade as a minor leaguer. Not sure why you think there is no chip there.
  3. Except you'll never know thw truth. Its just coming out now how prevalent steroid use was in football in the 1960s, and thats in a sport where steroid use is ignored for the most part.
  4. New Bradley Center promotion! First 100 attendees get to try out for a 10 day contract!
  5. The Yankees found a catcher of the future based on a guy who hardly caught during his time with Milwaukee?
  6. Wright is not Davis and he has nowhere near the talent of Eveland. That said he is a much better than what the Brewers had before which was hope and not much else. AS for him being in the rotation, its not likely buts its not like McClung has a job cemented either.
  7. Or McG is hack, has always been a hack, and Bale is reacting to the fact he signed on to a hack's picture...
  8. No he gets beat up because he's constantly brought up in the media as the future in CF despite showing no reason to have ever been promoted above AA. He's assumed to have skills he doesn't because of who his father is and because of his body type. Assuming the Brewers end up with 12 pitchers you have 5 bench spots. Three are already set with Hall, Counsell, and Rivera. That leaves competition for the final two, one between Nixon/Nelson with Nelson out of options and who was already removed from the 40 man once and one between Irribarren/Gwynn both out of options.
  9. (TB - H + BB + SB - CS) / AB Not that I'm up on every baseball stat, but I never heard of it. I like it thought. It appears that it's trying to measure the players ability to get into scoring position. I'm not sure why it adds walks though. Its really just a quick number to address all the skills a player has not covered by BA. So TB-H gives you power, BB gives you on base ability and SB-CS givers you speed/baserunning.
  10. Of course it could be 1 yr/$25m payed out as $5m this year with the remaining $20m paid over 10 years in 5 years time with no interest like Pujols' contract.

  13. Terrible deal for the Mets. Perez just isn't that good of a pitcher.
  14. Height in general means more power. In Salome's case that isn't an issue. The issue with him is that his height means he can't play 1B. His injury seems to have sapped his speed with means OF is unlikely. So that means C or DH. And there are serious questions about his catching ability.
  15. Its likely he Olympic tiebreaking rules where the team puts two guys on and then who ever hits after them would hit.
  16. Thing is that only applies to Japan. Any worldwide draft was going to leave Japan and perhaps S. Korea and Taiwan out of it.
  17. The union protects current members not potential ones, which is why it doesn't fight the draft. The owners couldn't get together on worldwide draft. I think people need to realize that there is much more disagreement among owners keeping things from happening than between the union and owners. You need an agreement of 25 owners to get anything done.
  18. The thing about it is only last year did the Brewers lose one pitcher before the season and got all of 4 starts from Gallardo. And its not like Parra has been a virtue of health.
  19. He isn't Suppan lite. He's a solid #2-3 Millwood: CHONE's 2009 FIP 4.28 Parra: CHONE's 2009 FIP 4.14 Bush: CHONE's 2009 FIP 4.59 Suppan: CHONE's 2009 FIP 5.01
  20. The point was while Hall has never had great plate discipline its what you can expect for a .260-.270 hitter to get an OBP in the 330 to 340 range What has killed Hall the last two season is his inability to hit above .260 and the fact that his ISO fell off from .204 and .283 to the .170s. Hall still takes walks, his OBP was 70 points higher than his BA last year but if you're hitting .225 not much good is going to occur unless you have incredible plate discipline. Branyan can do it, but you need that skill set.
  21. No he's talking marginal cost. The marginal cost of an additional ticket is as close to zero as possible so P>MC. You do have costs that jump up with ticket sales , ie say you need 1 usher for every 2000 tickets sold above 20K.
  22. Except that Rickie was very good in 2007. .235/.374/.435 with 25 SB. He missed time but his value was $12.3m Weeks' contract jumped around depending upon his service time limits.
  23. The problem with that is the Padres are going to field some crappy teams over the next few years killing Peavy's win loss record.
  24. Kohl has nothing to do with Kohl's at this point. He could still have stock from back when the family first sold the food stores back in the 70s but that's it. The owner of the food stores then opened up the department stores. The food stores were then sold off again before being shut down. The department store took off after the split with the food store.
  25. I do agree that moving Hall is the only way the Brewers would likely get him due to his salary. I'm just saying that he isn't a Washburn or Suppan and much, much better than say a Robertson among pitchers whose teams would like to see them sent off.
