  1. Yeah he was hurt, but an OBP heavy .795 OPS isn't terrible. Matsui projects much better then Abreu.
  2. That was my entire point. Well that and the fact people don't seem to realize that Hardy right now looks to be an $18m a year value for $3m.
  3. Not sure why you think Matsui was awful last year. And they are looking to bring Giambi back to DH if they can't land Texeria. Damon and Matsui will be in the corners.
  4. Swisher is at 1B if the Yankees can't get Texeria so I doubt he'll be available.
  5. No we are assuming that they'll offer up a possible stud pitcher they control for 6 years so they have Fielder for 3. It makes no sense. If the Brewers trade Fielder it would be like to the Yankees for Hughes.
  6. Let's hope Melvin is lying because this is an incredibly deep FA pitching class. Any pitcher the Brewers trade for is likely to cost $10m in salary (Bedard is like $9m) plus talent. Yeah if you can get Millwood from the Rangers for squat that's great, but I doubt its going to happen.
  7. So the Brewers aren't going to compete next year but the Mariners are?
  8. Getting into a bidding war with the Yankees is like getting into a land war in Asia.
  9. No I think any mention of the union or his agent is stupid thing. He got $60m over the Brewers and likely $40-50m over the Giants. He got what he wanted, to be the highest paid pitcher in baseball which is what he wanted from the start. If he didn't he would still be in Cleveland.
  10. And they still have like another $40m to spend from last year's team salary.
  11. Not sure why people think this is ridiculous. I always thought 6yrs/$150m would be the the basic point. The Yankees 7th year at $10m over that is a sign about how bad the market is affecting player salaries even with both New York teams getting new stadiums.
  12. It's a NY Post "Exclusive" so I'm not sure how much weight to give it. Its in the "Hey, maybe they actually know something?" category.
  13. I'm not saying it isn't reasonable, I have no problem with how he's progressing. But I see no special jumps to his progress that merits believing that he won't struggle as a 22 year old in his first season in AAA especially given his lack of plate discipline and power. I see no reason to believe he can outperform Hardy next year.
  14. They get the second round pick of the Giants. Now that's like the 70th pick instead of the Yankees 26th or whatever, but its still a pick.
  15. Washburn is a slightly better pitcher is signed for only $10m and only for 2009. So such a swap isn't likely.
  16. Blake is 35 and turns 36 in August. Blake is a career 780 OPS guy, I don't have any reason to believe at age 38 he'll be putting up solid numbers.
  17. Feds about to raid the Cubs' offices?
  18. How is he not following the usual trend? He plays in A+ can't hit enough to get promoted and repeats doing better the 2nd year. He gets promoted to AA his offense dives down and he has to repeat. His second time in AA he hits well enough for promotion but its based on a too high BABIP so no reason to expect him not to come back down. Yes he's doing better but the competition he's facing is improving as well.
  19. The Mariner's have no use for Fielder with Clement about ready. And Fielder is gone in three years while it will take at least one for the Mariners to steady themselves, especially if they trade Morrow. And if the Tigers are offering Joyce for Putz Fielder is nowhere near enough for Morrow and Putz.
  20. Its not solving your problems for three years. Its solving it for one year and hoping he doesn't collapse in the second year and he'll almost certainly collapse by the third.
  21. Sure he does, but that's why you don't trade Hardy and put Escobar in Milwaukee. My guess is Escobar's BABIP falls down to a reasonable level in Nashville which makes him a .290/.320/.390 hitter in AAA.
  22. He's at the age (28) where sometimes relievers put it together for 1 or 2 seasons. But as likely as that is is him being off the Brewers and pitching in Nashville by June.
  23. About the only thing good about this is that he'll be making minimum.
  24. He doesn't have the stuff, he's a guy who's just above replacement level. He had 7 good innings in September after a horrendous season with the Reds.
  25. If Morrow is included my guess is either two of Salome, Gamel and Escobar are going (likely Salome and Escobar) or Hardy would be shipped out.
