  1. The Brewers cut Vargas to save $2.5 million instead of having a really good 7th starting option. To pretend that paying Suppan near ace money over the next two years is no big deal or that its an easy to dump contract is foolish. Suppan is getting $27.5 million for 2009 and 2010 for his age 34 and 35 seasons. Why do people think there are that many fools out there dying to take that on?
  2. Hall is under Brewer control until 2011. The future can be a long way off
  3. I'm not saying he's useless, as a shortstop he's a good hitter. But compared to all other Brewers he's in competition with Kendall to be 8th best. I don't care how outs are made. I'd rather have the #2 hitter be a k machine--less chance of stupid hit and runs and GIDP with Weeks on first. (pared back long quote --1992)
  4. Why? At 2B his value is loads better than at CF. Yes he has a better chance at staring in CF for Milwaukee, but it really does nothing to his actual value.
  5. Rob Neyer was on the on deck show on 1250 on Thursday.
  6. Hardy is a not a good hitter. He's Hall with less power. I don't know why people keep think he's something he's not. Why give you're 7th or 8th best hitter the 2nd most PAs?
  7. I didn't say Davis was good, but he was still better than what was received in return. And just because the Brewers wouldn't haved used Eveland doesn't mean it was good to dump him for crap. Zack Jackson is close to being a bust.
  8. Oswalt's supposedly on the market right now. Mussina doesn't appear to be in their plans for this season once they get their ideal rotation figured out. I don't recall who it was that said it, Girardi or whoever, but they said that a rotation of Kennedy, Joba, Wang, Pettite and Hughes would be a good rotation for them. No Moose in there. And Burnett's contract is not a problem. He holds the option, and I'd be thrilled if we could get him at his option numbers. He's a Sheets caliber pitcher in terms of stuff. Chamberlin won't be in the rotation if they can help it until August. And who really wants Mussina anyway? Burnett's contract is a problem because he holds the option. If he gets injured again (high probability) he picks up the option and spends next year rehabbing on the Brewers dime. And he also has a no trade clause that covers half the league. Obviously if Oswalt is available, he is the best pitcher out there.
  9. Based on what? The fact that Estrada was terrible and Vargas was bad and Davis was good last season?. Mota was available for anything if the Brewers took his salary, Estrada was just a way for th Mets to easily cut salary.
  10. When the Sports director of Channel 12 news refuses to learn about OPS (probably because it makes his one and only skill, remmebering bits of worthless trivia seem even more worthless) you can't get too mad at people who don't have time to get their info from other sources. (pared back long nested quote --1992)
  11. They can't send anyone down until Saturday anyway, so not sure carrying 14 means anything
  12. You must have missed last year then. To get Stweart? Major league pitching. TheRockies are likely either holding him for the future or as a chip to get a top flight starter.
  13. Because there was no way the pitcher spot was likely to come up twice more anyway.
  14. I said in game, I'm not sure Suppan is real happy with BA calling both him and Moyer willy ol'verterans when Moyer has a full decade on him
  15. Right the Giants need like 6 players. Hart for Linecum does nothing for them, Hart is about to enter arby afterall. They'll be looking for a Haren type deal after Sabean is fired if they are foolish enough to trade Linecum (I seriously doubt the Rios rumours).
  16. No, thats pretty much the Murdoch treatment all over the world
  17. Depends on the injury--Hall out and he'll be up to platoon with Dillon most likely
  18. Especially considering Weeks was spike happy tonight
  19. Imagine that, when turnbow gets regular work he has control. Yost will now use him tomorrow in the day game
  20. Yep-especially since Hamels crapped out his last start in th 8th
  21. It had nothing to do with that Stetter was going to face the lefties--Bush was there for only the first hitter. He's saving his bench for the chance this game may go extra innigns nad run out of players in the 10th
  22. Well if you keep it close you can hope for a Lidge meltdown. Maybe he'll think he's an Astro again
  23. Let Yovani hit he does have the most power
