  1. You know, FIP might be a quality stat for guys who are coming up through the minors and have only pitched for a year, but what difference does it make for a guy who's been in the big leagues for several years? Wouldn't ERA, Whip, QS's all be more important stats? I mean, Jeff Fassero had a 3.55 FIP two years ago. Should we bring him back out of retirement? Nope, FIP or xFIP is better. ERA and WHIP is dependent on defense. As is QS.
  2. Torre manages differently in teh playoffs, brining in Rivera early, throwing out the defined "roles" for players, pinch hitting for his lefties against LOOGYs. during the season he does zilch, since the Yankees are built to win 85 games easily.
  3. Suppan's FIP this was 4.33, teh best of his career. He's unlikely to match it again, so yes his ERA is looking to rise unless the Brewers improve teh defense. And the Brewers infield defense is atrocious, especially Braun.
  4. What about that choker Clemens? Another deciding game another choke by Clemens! And he gets more money than ARod!
  5. Yeah, the author just picked two names out of the air there.
  6. Except for the fact the Brewers already have 8 starting quality pitchers on the roster. Garland just isn't that much of an upgrade. Garland's career FIP is 4.87, which basically puts him on the level of Suppan (4.84), Capuano (4.58), and Bush (4.42).
  7. Torre is a very good in game manager in general, he just never has to do so because its the Yankees. That said, his salary will be much too much for the Brewers.
  8. Joe Giardi is in line for the job. Can't wait until he blows out the Yankees' young arms! Cashman might actually trade them in the case in order to get value out of them before Giardi kills them.
  9. Taken from here: Linkage. It always about getting deeper into our pockets...just like when Uncle Bud was running the show. What a scam! Oh well. With Nedly back and the 9% increase I guess it will just be single games next year, no way I'm renewing the 20 pack. Will we ever get past this? Every year complaints arise about increasing ticket prices. Let's face it though, it is a fact of life. I by no means think it is a scam. In fact, i believe it is good business. When Bud did it, it was a scam because the Brewers did not try to win. I think it is a different era though and Mark A. has proven in a short time that he is serious about winning. If you don't like it, don't go to the games. In fact, order a pizza and get some good beer (Anchor Steam or maybe Hoegaarden) and enjoy the game at home. No biggie. I went to three games this year at Miller Park and watched 125 games on Direct TV in Chicago and was fine with it. (Especially when I got to listen to visitors announcers.) Selig lost money on a year to year basis, Attanasio is making a huge profit each year.
  10. Except there was no reason to expect Estrada to perform there. Estrada is the 8th best hitter (who can't hit 8th because he can't get to 2nd on a bunt) hitting 5th right where his ability to GIDP would do the most damage. Add to that Yost would hit Fielder, Estrada, Jenkins and Gross all in a row.
  11. Black brought Heath Bell in in a tie game on the road. Yost would have used Spurling.
  12. This is what annoys me about Yost. He's screwing up the easiest part of the job. Dealing with the media (even in Milwaukee) is a hard, making sure everyone is ready to go and everything accounted for is hard. The in game stuff is easy.
  13. As a 23 year old, Ramirez was 11 FRAR. As a 23 year old Braun is -10 FRAR. If its 2005, you see if Braun can develop at 3B. It isn't though. Giving away 2-3 wins with Braun at 3B over Hall just makes little sense if you're goal is to win.
  14. Its because Yost uses hit charts from the current season only. I forgot when this was found out, but earlier in the year a hitter was going aginst his career tendencies and Yost played him as if this years 200 ABs changed everything.
  15. Basically Braun is the reverse Nefi Perez.
  16. I think people need to realize just how bad Braun's defense has been. He's last in Revised Zone Rating, and not last by a few points, but last by a huge gulf. Braun's RZR is .562 (yes he gets to just over half the balls in his zone). The next worst is .602. Braun needs to show a huge improvement just to match the next worst defender. Average for 3B is .675 (.681 if you exclude Braun). To give some sort of comparison, Weeks' is RZR is .788, Mark Ellis leads the league at .883. So basically the difference between Weeks and the best 2B is less than the difference between Braun and the average 3B.
  17. Hey who was responsible for giving Mench all those ABs against RHPs?
  18. Thatcher only has about 20 major league innings. It's too soon to make any assumptions about his ability to get righties out. In almost every case, bringing in a lefty to pitch to righties and walk the only lefty he faces is asking for trouble. If this were a Padres board the IGT would have been filled with "Blacked" posts and other criticisms of Bud Black. Again its extra innings. SD had used their best relievers already.
  19. It was extra innings and Thatcher has killed RHP in the majors so far so he may not be a LOOGY. So the premise is totally wrong
  20. I think people are underestimating the value of starting pitching, even one with some injury issues. The Brewers gave up a 22 year old who dominated AAA to get Vargas. Yes Eveland has work ethic issues, but he has a huge amount of talent and the Brewes sent that off for a guy who may give you 6 innings every 5th day and a 5.50 ERA if you're lucky.
  21. The Brewers collapse only ranks 40th of all time! Collapses
  22. Which only happened because Yost wanted McClung to hit Pujols. Otherwise Turnbow would have started the inning or Linebrink could have stayed in. King only pitched so Yost could get even at LaRussa.
  23. Nope Linebrink was still in the game and was absolutely the best I've seen him as a Brewer last night. He was pulled so they could hit Pujols. I would bet it never entered Yost's mind at that point to keep Linebrink out there.
  24. Oh, I don't disagree. As I said before, this would have been a bad idea too. I see your point, and I freely admit it would have been probably a worse idea. But that doesn't make what he did a good idea, and we seem to agree on that. To me, it just shows that the man's a little bit out of touch with what kind of impact his decisions can have on games. It seems he just assumed that we'd get out of the inning unscathed. And while the odds were in our favor, the fact he assumed this makes me wonder if he's watched this team at all this season. Ned has always and still manages under the assumption of what will happen is what he hopes will happen instead of what likely will happen.
  25. Oh it sent a message all right. The message is if you get Ned mad he'll do really stupid things.
