  1. Briggs-the infield was playing in on Hardy so no squeeze
  2. I really don't know where this Abreu love is coming from. Capuano for Abreu would be the biggest steal in Cashman's career. Of course more than likely NY will just let Abreu walk in stead of picking up a $16 million option for an 800 OPS corner OFer.
  3. Ward would have batted, he was on the on deck circle
  4. Because walking the tieing run into scoring position is incredibly foolish
  5. Brewers will be playing meaningful games long after Michigan Football will be
  6. Cameron as a platoon player and 4th OFer? Sure. As a fulltime player? No.
  7. Crawford is signed for three more seasons at $5.25 m, $8.25 m, and $10 m. Without Inman its hard seeing the Brewers putting together a package that could land him that the Brewers would be willing to do. In addition Crawford until this point has been more potential than production. His best year was an .830 OPS. Nice for a CFer, but for a corner guy just slightly above average. So you'll pay a premium for a guy you hope will grow to match what a Jenkins (Gross) platoon would do.
  8. My vent? Tom Haudricort somehow believing that Capuano has bad voodoo and by just pitching even when there was little otehr chocie teh brewers were doomed to lose. Of course he wrote most of the article before the 8th inning.
  9. Was Parra hurt or did Yost have another brain fart?
  10. Except that none of the young players will be due for a big contract until Sheets' (and Suppan's) deal is up. Heck right now since Weeks was sent down for two weeks, Hardy might be the only one who will be arby eligible next season. The Brewers have another 3 years of Hardy, another 4 of Weeks, 5 of Fielder, 5 of Hart, 5 of Villenauva, 6 of Braun and 6 of Gallarado.
  11. Wise has been a good reliever for three years. McClung? Never has been. Not sure why people think Wise is a bad pitcher.
  12. This has absolutely nothing to do with the union, the union would welcome caps on foreign players since it would increase the money available to current union members. Its why they were fine with a world wide draft. The people against this are large market owners and teams with large Latin American camps. Its all Bud being unable to get 26 teams to agree on it.
  13. You didn't need to sign Davis for three years. That's more of Bill Schroeder showing how little he understands how baseball actually works. They could have signed Davis for one year and let him go after that.
  14. Houston is in a bad place. Their "demanding" owner has hamstrung the team with long term contracts on aging players again. The Astros have four good players in Lee, Oswalt, Berkman, and Pence. Thats it Berkman and Lee are both 31 and have years left on their contracts during the decline phase. Berkman has a no trade clause that probably would make the recvieving team pick up his $15 million option in 2011. Basically the Astros don't have enough talent to win, the talent they do have is too old to be valuable when they get in new blood save for Pence, and their contracts are killers. I have no clue what they are going to do.
  15. Given they were also the home team which is favored slightly when tied, they probably a little better than 50%.
  16. Well if there was one area which the Cubs needed a body was corner outfield right? Does Pinella think Murton ran over his dog or something?
  17. BP has Braun's defense at 9 runs below replacement and 16 runs below average. Basically a win below a replacement level 3B and two below an average one.
  18. No, he is below average. He's no longer an error every other game, but he has no range. He's not Durham or Kent bad, but he's still distinctly below average.
  19. hauser doesn't let little things like facts stand in his way of hating Jenkins.
  20. Dye is 31st among all OFers with an OPS of .797 Mench would be 53rd with an OPS of .726 which includes a platoon advantage. Which one do you think is easier to replace with a minimum level player? Tampa would deal for either Parra or Villaneuva but not sure the Brewers would.
  21. Is Prince going to be player of the month? He's currently second in OPS behind Bonds (basically tied with Giles) but he's 1st in home runs, 3rd in RBIs. and hitting over .300 And because its just expected, Jenkins in August :.315/.351/.715
  22. Posada will likely ask for four and get at least 3 years. Hard to see the Brewers taking that on. Micheal Barrett might ne a netter target. Tampa won't do that deal. They want young pre-arby pitching for any of their Ofers they move. Likely too much for Lidge at this point, especially with only one year left before FA. Mench will likely get DFA'd. I just see no market for him at his current salary.
  23. Vargas wasn't a second piece. He was pretty much the main piece for Eveland.
  24. It isn't that Vargas doesn't have value. Its just that you'd think only teams who are set to compete next season are going to want him.
