Yep Melvin would have no brain if he made that deal. I'm not sure who people think Dye is, but he's been worse than Jenkins over his career. He had an MVP level season last year but thats as far away from his career average as this season is.
Keep in mind Jenkins historically is terrible in May, and June whle ok in July whiel good in April, August and September so while he hasn't been great he still has his god months to go.
There are really 4 choices for when Linebrink returns: 1) DFA Dessens (or if lucky trade him for a PTBNL) 2) Option down Parra 3) Option down Villy 4) DL Wise Now the 1st one has the benefit of having real little downside though it would be nice to have Dessens available in September to reduce workloads a bit. Parra has thrown well so this is hard to do but he's option was already used for the year and so there is not cost on that end. Villy probably coudl use a break which optioning down could do but it would cost them an option for basically a week's worth of time Wise maybe DL'd if they think his head just isn't there yet.
I think Yost's new tactic of constantly going out and yelling at his pitcher may have finally caught up with him. I wouldn't be surprised Estrada was still slightly steamed at Yost waiving him off from a mound meeting.
I didn't mean Estrada vs LHP-though that is completely out of line for his career, but Estrada overall. And no it isn't Mench's fault that he has nearly as many PAs vs RHP as LHP. But thats the point. Mench shouldn't be seeing RH relief pitching in games the brewers are behind.
Just that Yost was the worst manager in taking advantage of platoon situations last year. And its really worse than you think, Jenkins hits like Estrada vs LHP, Mench hits like a poorman's Chad Moeller vs RHP. Mench vs RHP: .223 .243 .311
While Dessens was apparently there keep in mind he spent most of yesterday on an airplane flying from Nashville to Portland then from Portland to Milwaukee. So it questionable how much he could really give you.
With Dillon up can we hope Yost finally PHs for Mench against right handed pitchers? Don't look now, but Jenkins has been better vs LHP than Mench vs RHP: Jenkins vs LHP: .217        .294        .435        .729 Mench vs RHP: .230        .243        .320        .563 Of course Jenkins has been limited in his exposure to LHP at 49 PAs vs LHP vs 245 vs RHP. Mench? Not so much. Mench has 102 PAs vs RHP vs 122 vs LHP.
This year they shouldn't have done much. In the past however they refused to when adding a decent player would have made their team really good. If you go into a season expecting Punto, Bartlett, and Tyner to get significant playing time though you are handicapping yourself.
How much better can the team get w/RISP? Overall: .263        .330        .446 w/RISP: .259        .346        .433        Yep, imagine that. They hit basically the same w/RISP as overall.
Didn't they change the rules for the playoff roster in that you had to be on the 25 man at some point? So could this be a way to get Dillion on the post season roster?
