  1. CV won't block Yo. Vargas is short term at best. Suppan will likely be gone in two years. The Brewers can't keep Sheets and Capuano both.
  2. Clark doesn't have a spot if Mench is on the team. You have Miller, Counsell and Graffanino on the bench for sure. Gross is almost a lock. Thats 4 players there. Anyone want to really go with the idea of the Brewers carrying only 11 pitchers? So its Clark vs Mench. And I'd rather see Graffy get the non-power PH ABs instead of Clark. That said, no way does Florida want Clark without the Brewers picking up about $2 million in salary.
  3. How does getting Rios solve the payroll problem? He's has the same amount of service time as Bush.
  4. The Yankees actually save more than $14 million since it comes off the top. Less luxury tax to pay. So the Johnson deal probably cost the Brewers $500k in revenue sharing.
  5. Dotel is getting as much this year as Turnbow is getting over the next two years. Both are big question marks. Dotel is likely the better pitcher, but both could easily turn into great chips to trade later.
  6. Wrong Tavarez Tavarez vs Tavares
  7. Yeah we need that $7 million to pay a past his prime #4 starter 10 million.
  8. He did in Boston. In Boston he hit over .300 will decent power. Previously he hit .260 with huge power. Either he completely changed his hitting style or Fenway did something. Given he hit .322 at Fenway versus .276 away, I'll go with the later.
  9. I'm not sure how much James actually delved into it (remember it was the 1980s where simple regressions required access to a university mainframe). It was just set up as a way to see how dominant a pitcher in a given game in a way just runs allowed doesn't. Meaning a pitcher pitching 7 innings while striking out 8 and allowing 2 runs was more dominant than a pitcher who went 7 with 2 runs but had men on base all day.
  10. I really think the Brewers shouldn't be looking to get a majo league player but instead should be focused on getting a right handed Gross type. A corner outfielder who maybe too old to be a prospect but has at least shown something. Since the Brewers need a corner OFer next year either to start of to platoon with Gross it makes sense. Could of sworn the Brewers had one of those lying around last year....
  11. So Koskie is good and cheap but has no trade value? And at this point, who really cares? Its not like Mench(a RH Ben Grieve) or Jenkins are going to be bringing in anything.
  12. The Twins want a better option at 3B. They already have the perfect right handed side of the platoon. Koskie fits in the Twins budget. Hall can move from CF to 3B. Gross gets playing time during his peak years.
  13. How come Clark is never brought up? Even if he only bring $1 million in salary relief his opening up a spot is worth it.
  14. After all Turnbow was doing his using in the minors.
  15. Keep in mind of course that a league average starter will have an ERA+ below 100
  16. I be much more afraid about the guy who has a huge head and who has had his stats go down since he turned 25.
  17. Just putting the ball in play kills power. And it really doesn't increase OBP because players become less selective when just putting the ball in play.
  18. Hall for Crawford isn't even that good of a fantasy trade. In the real world trading a high level short stop for a corner OFer with a sub 850 OPS makes no sense.
  19. Well given the Brewers supposed had about $6 million to spend before the signing, any of Clark, Jenkins, and Mench could be had cheaply. I do expect one to be quickly salary dumped, but Clark is unlikely to give much, maybe a $2 million saving if lucky.
  20. You forgot that they also have Hart. My guess is the Suppan signing means someone will now just be dumped for salary relief. Maybe that means picking up some of Clark's contract to save a few million. That said, the Brewers are thin in position prospects at higher levels and could even use some middling prospects there.
  21. Actually yes stats did say Turnbow was do for a big falloff. Noone saw him no longer being able to pitch, but the stats said he would likely fall off teh somewhere arounf 4.5 ERA. And yes the Dodgers brass are foolish. Pierre AND Gonzalez pretty much confirms it. Why are there a bunch of new stats? Computing power makes it possible to crunch numbers much easier and faster than ever. Why are they useful? They can provide as easy way to evaluate players. Some are near junk (Wins Shares IMO) but things like VORP give you a nice baseline to track a players contribution in easy to understand terms (runs) across positions.
  22. Given that is the past Melvin has gone out of his way to acquire high K players (Branyan anyone?) I doubt Melvin ever really cared. And I highly doubt he cares about RBIs at all.
  23. Cabrera played 116 games in RF and BP has him at 6 PRAA. Hart played 26 games in RF and was 2 PRAA. So I would hardly claim Cabrera is some defensive wiz.
  24. I say Villeneauva should get the spot regardless of Suppan. I guess I just don't like pitchers who in their best year have an OPS against of 801 (yes Vargas, thats you).
  25. Penny was win better than Suppan last year, will be 29 and costs less. Yes it depedns what teh Dodgers want, but he's clearly a better fit.
