  1. Id' rather get Murton from the Cubs if Crawford ends up in a corner.
  2. From ESPN: &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Shea it ain't so? Dec 5 - If the Mets don't get Barry Zito, GM Omar Minaya may have to get creative, perhaps convince White Sox GM Kenny Williams to trade Freddy Garcia or Javier Vazquez for Lastings Milledge, whose stock has fallen considerably since last winter, The New York Daily News reports.
  3. People calling for salary relief should realize if Jenkins isn't traded for a contract, the money won't get spent. There really isn't anything out there that will improve the team for $7 million.
  4. Its from the Globe:
  5. Well, at least Lieber would be a starter.
  6. McDonald was a good pitcher until his arm blew out. So would Yost ever pull a Garner and let a pitcher pitch whose arm was danging pitch to ensure a final option year gets picked up?
  7. Penny is a really good pitcher and I thought he could have been had last year during one of the LA-Penny flare ups. He's has the talent to be a number 1, just not the ability to pitch the innings.
  8. Yeah $6 million is what you pay an old player who can't hit, Loretta should be insulted by that.
  9. Hart is still the leadoff hitter of the future!
  10. My point was Chavez and Huff shouldn't be mentioned together. And Huff had his age 29 and 30 season which should be prime years while Chavez hasn't. Chavez is a career 839 OPS hitter and Huff 819. But by eliminating 2000 and 2001 you also drop two of Huff's bad years and two of Chavez's good years. My point is that 5 years is less than a career but not short enough to say that the player has changed. Its an agent talking point. Rosenthal just dropped it into a column.
  11. The relevant years would be 2002-2006 so those great years get lopped off.
  12. Rosenthal always seems like he's carrying somebody's water. For example he raves about how great a hitter Audrey Huff is quoting cherry picked stats (looking at Huff versus Chavez over 5 years. Huff is two years older, so yeah his 5 year average will look better) looks right from an agent press release. Huff's career numbers are: .285/.342/.477/.819 which he basically matched last year. Not sure how that makes him an formidable offensive player.
  13. Obviously wikipedia realizes no one would be foolish enough to spend huge amounts of time following around a team who hasn't sniffed the playoffs in nearly three decades.
  14. I think people are seriously overvaluing Lugo as an impact player. He's a solid bat and a 760 OPS shortstop is nothing to sneeze at, but Gross could match that in CF and there's even a chance Hardy could match that. 24 SB vs 9 CS isn't really that great and I feel the lack of speed on teh Brewers is severely overblown.
  15. If they sign him, don't the Cubs again have too many OFers? I thought Soriano was supposed to be the CFer anyway. but this would make Murton available which is much more exciting than Lugo in the outfield to me.
  16. Given that Figgins is an overated spare part and Rivera isn't that good and would be replaced by Manny, not sure how it sucks for Anaheim.
  17. Fielders' numbers aren't bad. Well except for the part where his .280 BA leads the team. ZIPS for our big haul: Estrada: .277/.323/.404 Vargas ERA 5.03 Aquino ERA 4.98 That said I don't think the program handles platoons well making Koskie and Cirillo's numbers look real bad.
  18. Any time you see Hall, replace his name with Derek Jeter. If you wouldn't make that trade with Jeter, you wouldn't with Hall.
  19. I'd rather see him than Vargas since Pavano has a better chance to have a really good year.
  20. No, Milwaukee treats AAA more as a stepping stone than most franchises. Otherwise Hart, Prince, and Braun wouldn't have ever played there. Even Weeks had to hit there first. The only position player not to really prove himself at AAA is Hardy. That hasn't worked out all that well.
  21. Weeks isn't making the minimum, he signed for 500k a year. Check the Brewerfan salary page for the best numbers.
  22. Weeks got a bump up to 550K per season. Some places factor in signing bonuses over the life of the contract, some put in the first year and some just ignore it.
  23. If Toronto trades Wells they will at least want a decent contributing player right now. Meaning trading Davis already probably makes this a no go.
  24. In Keith Law's ESPN blog he went through the new Free Agent compensation process. The key quote: Law also said that 2nd round picks are likely going to be poor this year because they could easily end up being the 100th person chosen due to a large supplemental round which will shrink somewhat in the future as the amount of players eligible for compensation shrinks next season.
  25. Sandwich picks are based upon the player's rating. So its not going to be anything that great.
