  1. There'd be no downside in picking him up... you'd rather continue on the 'Juan Francisco is terrible' merry-go-round? I think you mean terrible-go-round. If I were Gamel I would not sign with the Brewers. I would go somewhere I have a chance to start or at least a good chance to make the MLB club. It is clear the Brewers don't think much of him. I don't think he would get a fair shot at this point. If all else was even the Brewers would pick the other guy whomever that may be. The Brewers gave him the 1B job twice in 2 years and he got injured both times. Not sure how much more the Brewer could have done.
  2. Marisnick just had knee surgery and has yet to go through AAA. When you give Juan Pierre 330 PAs, you can use immediate OF help.
  3. A Logan Schafer for Logan Morrison deal has to happen right? I mean it makes sense, Schafer is 27 and blocked in Milwaukee. He is what you should expect for a guy who you were about to non-tender. Given his defense, Schafer has a shot to be a league average player who is cheap and the Marlins can flip him next year.
  4. Overbay, Escobar, and Hardy were not in the last year of their contracts when they were traded.
  5. Loney has had one good full season in his career (last year). He doesn't project well and will likely be looking for multiple years.
  6. Imagine if doing so got an entire coaching staff suspended for a year
  7. Japan is usually a step above AAA. However, Japan juiced the balls last season so trying to project is difficult.
  8. This is, I guess strange is the word. MLB should fine him and be ready to suspend DBacks and the team's management right and left next season. http://arizonasports.com/42/1668458/Arizona-Diamondacks-GM-Its-going-to-be-an-eye-for-an-eye edit:For those who don't want to read it, basically Towers want his pitchers to throw at guys. And not just in retaliation for hitting his players. His big complaint is that no Dodgers were hit after they torched the DBacks pitching staff for 6 home runs.
  9. Maybe? He can't hit left handed pitching leading to a bad 2013 as he was exposed. Though Gamel doesn't really help with that problem.
  10. Yep, Corey Hart was pretty crappy in 2009. Gamel is 28, coming off two missed seasons due to injury, and likely limited to 1B at this point where even when he was healthy his bat there was just passable.
  11. It's from the Globe. And it lists 1/3 of the league.
  12. Gennett shouldn't bat any higher than 7th. He shouldn't be getting a lot of PA's a year. Well of course he shouldn't, but he'll hit 1st or 2nd.
  13. So was it a joke what the Pirates were doing 2 or 3 or 4 years ago? What about the Athletics 2-6 years ago? Sometimes a team has to recognize that the best plan is to build a foundation, & not simply try to paper over the cracks from one year to the next & hope everything breaks in their favor. It doesn't impress me or make me feel grateful that a club will "put the best product on the field", if that product is a .500-ish club like the Brewers were, objectively, heading into 2013. It was totally worth Pittsburgh wasting a few years of McCuthen's prime to get top Pittsburgh prospects like Russell Martin, AJ Burnett, and Francisco Liariano ready for the big leagues.
  14. Ramirez's first full year he hit .300/.350/.536. He had a poor second full year. And then he hit like Ramirez for the rest of his career when healthy. Lawrie hit for power for a few months in 2011; didn't before and hasn't since. Lawrie looks to be a below average starter.
  15. Beckett was really good in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011. He was OK in 2012 and injured in 2010 and 2013.
  16. Chris Reed? At this point he is a lower level pitching prospect.
  17. Rany has shown how Yost has been killing KC's chances of winning. http://www.ranyontheroyals.com/
  18. Ugh was looking at the wrong topic. Anyway on topic, Davis has little value in a trade right now. He hasn't hit for long enough in the majors to build up value to overcome the fact that scouts have written him off long ago.
  19. Schafer has been terrible in MLB this season but not that far behind his projections. ZiPS had him at .261/.312/.385. Schafer has a really low BABIP, you move it up to .300 you get his ZiPS line. I guess the point is that people seem to be expecting Schafer to do something when there is no reason to expect any better,
  20. So you agree then that a 700 OPS is below average? Ganter gained half a win from his very good fielding. Gennett will likely lose 0.5 to 1 wins with his fielding. It would be great of Gennett becomes an average 2B, but August doesn't really say much about that.
  21. Ganter was a below average player for the vast majority of his career. And that was during the low offense of the 1980s and with exceptional glove work.
  22. Yeah an 1.100 OPS from a Brewer 2B for a month? You have to go all the way back to June to see that!
  23. No, Weeks is paid like an average starting player.
  24. Based on what? The Brewers won't pay that and neither will any other team. So Axford will sign for less.
  25. Thank God that Braun was suspended for his violation of some unnamed and unknown part of the Basic Agreement. Otherwise young kids might follow in his footsteps of doing some unknown thing at some point in time! Now we can all cheer the good clean Brewers who represent the great ethics of the game. Like Francisco Rodriquez.
