  1. There is a reason the talk is about him and not the older and more expensive Hudson.
  2. I got the feeling the Brewers were partially moving Lawrie before he couldn't handle 3B and have to move to the OF/1B lowering his value further. I think they were going to try to move him to 3B if he was in the system in 2011.
  3. The other thing is there is absolutely no reason to move him this year. If Greinke and Marcum move on after 2012, yes trade him. You will also have to consider moving Weeks, Morgan and Gallardo at that time as well. But Gindl can use more time in AAA and Schafer needs to show some power before either is really ready.
  4. Not sure Guererro will get a full time job. He would have been a better signing then Rivera of course (hard to find one worse)
  5. If Jurrjens is on the block its because the Braves think he'll miss more time and is closer the FIP 4.00 pitcher he has been the last two years than the pitcher he was in 2008 and 2009. Hart last year was more valuable then Jurrjens was the last 2. Jurrjens' ERA last year is a BABIP artifact (.269), he's solid but not great and there is a huge injury risk. He and Narveson basically had the same season given what a pitcher can control.
  6. What's that? Wild speculation based on a guess? Nah....that wouldn't be....couldn't be what YOU'RE doing here, could it? Yes, its just a weird thing that the Post was the only one who had this huge quote.
  7. Jurrjens of 2008-2009? Sure. Jurrjens of 2010-2011 who keeps missing time? Much less interested.
  8. Rivera stinks, not sure why his signing affects anything. Except saying the Dodgers are still making foolish decisions (Rivera .258/.319/.382; Kotsay .270/.329/.376), $4.5m really?
  9. To keep with the Pujols age discussion, from Keith Law's chat about his Top 50 FA list: Joseph (St. Louis) How likely to you think it is that Pujols actually is older than his listed age? 10% chance? 20%? And how likely is it that this slight uncertainty will impact the contract he gets? Klaw (1:21 PM) I'm not sure how to handicap it, but the subject keeps coming up when I'm talking to front office people. If some GMs will shy away, or offer fewer years, because in the backs of their minds they're worried he's a year or two older than his listed age, isn't that relevant to this discussion here? So FOs are worried about it.
  10. Keep in mind that RF in Milwaukee with that wall is a busted knee waiting to happen. You don't move Braun there.
  11. Podsednik still stole 70 bases in 2004, so while his hitting slipped he was still doing something. And Podsednik was still an OK starter in 2004 while McGehee was not in 2011. Not to say McGehee can't be traded, for example as a throw in to cover 3B for the Padres if the Brewers do go after Headley.
  12. No but the overprevelance of LH power hitters makes a difference. Keep in mind about 9% of the population is LH while about 1/3 of baseball players hit from that side.
  13. I think your definition of could is a bit broad. Punto has started a total of 234 games at SS over the course of his career. He's only played in 120 games in 3 seasons. It would not have been a good bet that he could have done that at age 33 and do so all at SS. The fact the Twins consistently played Punto at the wrong position doesn't mean that much.
  14. Not sure Anderson will leave because I'm not sure how many other teams will allow a guy to leave to do national broadcasts every weekend. Minneapolis is a huge market so you'd think the commercials will pay a lot more there.
  15. That he'll be one in a long line of terrible fielders who have won a gold glove. Of the three listed, he would be third but voters will remember Holliday's miscue last year and Parra can't hit like the other two soI expect Braun to get it at this point.. The NL as a whole has pretty terrible LFers outside of Parra and other players who are pretty good like Prado only play there part time.
  16. McGehee isn't getting $3.1m. He won't go to arby either. He'll either sign a deal with the Brewers for about $1-1.5m or get non-tendered and hope for a Kotsay type deal from somewhere but there is a large risk in that. My guess is Loe will sign for about what he made this year, he might actually get 2 years/$4.5m.
  17. Nick Punto and Hairston both could play about 100-120 games at SS and either should have been signed last offseason.
  18. Because his bat can't play at 2B, it can hardly play at SS. Then he was given his terrible contract pushing him into the lineup everyday instead of a utility role.
  19. So the Brewers will downgrade the strength of the team? Yeah its Olney spitballing or publishing agent rumours
  20. No scheduling has very little to do with it. You play each team in your division twice, that's 6 games. You play all teams in one division of the other conference, that's 4 games (for the Packers that's the AFC West this year). Then you play all teams in one division in your conference (for the Packers that's the NFC South) for another 4 games. That's 14 games, leaving 2 games to be scheduled by division finish against the 2 other divisions in your conference.
  21. $5m is a 1 win player. Barmes was a 3 win player last year and can project to be 2-3 wins if he plays SS. That is easily worth $5m. The typical SS can't hit for squat.
  22. He has Miami signing Reyes for over $100 million. 'Nuff said.
  23. Remember all those baseball teams going 0-162 and 162-0? Wait no, that's the NFL and its parity.
  24. That is due to a BABIP of .409 away from Petco. Away from Petco in 2010 he hit .289/.334/.432. He's likely a solid starter but will cost a decent amount in prospects with 3 years or arbitration remaining.
  25. Why would it look odd? It would match up well with lots of other players.
