Where are people getting Escobar's offense being better? Betancourt is at -7.6 and Escobar is at -16.2 before positional adjustments. Escobar comes in at about 2 wins better defensively.
Counsell hit .354/.442/.542 in May of 2005. Bad hitters can have a great 100 PAs. Counsell over his career is a slightly better hitter than Betancourt but not by that much (wOBA of .308 vs .296). EDIT:In Sept/Oct 2008 Betancourt hit .343/.368/.525 while playing in Seattle. Needless to say, it wasn't the start of a whole new hitter.
Its so hard to say. Braun/Fielder could easily be penalized for having the other on the team, same with Holliday, Pujols, and Berkman. Then you'll end up with McCann because people don't seem to know Freddie Freeman exists.
So if you remove basically 1/3 of the sample he was good? Betancourt because of his lack of plate discipline is going to tend be at the whim of BABIP more then most players. And he still would have an OBP below .300 with terrible defense.
The point for McGehee is to show that he hasn't picked up over the last month as many have said, its been a really good week. So 28 day slices really aren't showing a guy hitting well over a month. Betancourt was bad up until the All Star break and in teh three weeks sicne then has been a monster offensively.
McGehee has had a really good week. Before say July 27th he was the same player he had been all season. He's a guy who not only had just 1 HR in July, he only had a total of 5 extra base hits. His July was .253/.306/.360. As for Betancourt his hot month is what he has to produce over a season to overcome his terrible defense especially since its still such a low OBP.
Typical Richard Justice post. Unfunny jokes combined with predictions that if they are right he'll call himself a genius and if wrong say hey can't you see I was making a joke?
Flores isn't any good. Arthur Rhodes at least has a small chance of being successful. Herrera would be a better use than Flores. But it will likely be Flores, he'll stink, might cost the Brewers a game and he'll be shipped out again.
Yes Yuni and McGehee have come so far that that Yuni has a wRC of 74 and McGehee of 73. A little bit more and they'll catch Gallardo's and Greinke's 76.
I think after Morgan was acquired most thought it was fine. When Gomez was expected to play all the time it was slightly worrisome but not close to short stop concerns. Now batting Gomez at the top of the order and taking forever to play Morgan were bad things. As to Fielder going, keep in mind Morgan is playing over his head. His BABIP is going to come down from .393 (he even has a BABIP of .381 vs LHers).
