  1. I have lots of old e-mail too, but I won't go so far as to say that I do it to hold people to things they may have said earlier. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I have nifty filters set up that put things into folders automatically. When I do a quick cleanup of my inbox, I can choose to trash an item, which also removes it from its folder(s). Or I can simply delete the item from the Inbox, which leaves it inside its folder(s). Once in a blue moon, I'll clean out folders individually. That's an easy process because you're not wading through e-mails from multiple senders. I can look at as many folders as time permits, and if I don't get around to cleaning up at the folder level, it really doesn't matter.
  2. Theoretically, if you see the "15 articles left" message and clear cookies, you should see the "15 articles left" message again after reading five more articles. That happened to me yesterday. I believe I did a browser restart during that time, but I don't know if that mattered or not.
  3. We're set up for moderators to be able to create polls. However, the polling feature wouldn't fit this as it isn't designed for responders to be able to give multiple answers.
  4. The difference between Selig and Favre is that Selig isn't making life difficult for a GM who has to decide how to draft and how to construct a team before the season starts.
  5. I think that being around for seventeen years with about a decade as a starter is plenty to include Gantner. The incorrect move in regard to Jimmy would be to retire his number.
  6. Crandall is definitely the most egregious omission, even if you don't pad his Braves record with the years he spent as a Brewers manager and broadcaster. Breaking the Braves down into tiers: Tier 1: Crandall and Adcock Tier 2: Logan and Buhl Tier 3: Joe Torre (not Frank) I'd add Crandall, Adcock, Logan, and Buhl, with Buhl being the only one that might raise questions. Torre's longevity is significantly less than the others, but he should at least be part of the discussion. On the Brewers end, Oglivie definitely should be included, with Scott and Jenkins at least being part of the discussion. My inclination would be to include all three. Augustine? I dunno. If this were the Walk of Honor rather than the Walk of Fame, I'd definitely suggest that he should be included.
  7. You should be fine with simply removing your cookies within CookieCuller. I wouldn't think you'd have to restart Firefox. However, CookieCuller does have a setting where it will automatically clear cookies (except the ones you've protected) whenever Firefox starts.
  8. There are two ways to block cookies from a site in Firefox. Via Firefox's preferences (options): Open Firefox's preference (options) and select the privacy tab. Make sure that "Use custom settings for history" is chosen in the dropdown in the History section.Click on the Exceptions button next to "Accept cookies from sites."Enter "jsonline.com" (no quotes) into the address field and hit the block button. It's possible that you may have to block both jsonline.com and www.jsonline.com, but I don't think you should have to. Via the site's Page Info window: On any jsonline.com page, right-click on a blank spot on that page and choose View Page Info.Hit the Permissions tab.Under "Set Cookies," uncheck "use default, then choose the "Block" radio button to the right.fondybrewfan has indicated that blocking cookies works. My concern was that the site could require that you accept a cookie or two in order to be able to view it. That doesn't appear to be the case right now, but that could certainly happen in the future.
  9. The voters have typically been a combination of Brewers employees and members of the local press. I'd be satisfied for now if they could clean up the Braves mess. It's obvious that the voters don't know anything about these players. When the Hall of Fame figured out that Negro Leaguers weren't getting in because people didn't know enough about the players, they set up a special committee to deal with it. That's what the Brewers should do with the Milwaukee Braves candidates.
  10. Adcock definitely belongs.
  11. Worse than the Brewers results is the fact that nobody seems to be doing any homework on the Braves. Del Crandall certainly deserves to be included. Johnny Logan probably deserves to be included. And Joe Torre, who isn't on the ballot at all, deserves consideration.
  12. There'd be a couple of other options. One would be to save all of your logins within your browser. That would allow you to clear all cookies periodically and log back into your sites with minimal effort. In the security pane of your Firefox preferences (options), you'd check "Remember passwords for sites." I've resisted that because I'd rather not have that information stored on my computer, but it's there if you want it. Another option would be to selectively clear cookies through the interface that Firefox provides. It's kind of hidden, but it's easy enough to open up. In Firefox's preferences (options), hit the Privacy Tab. In the dropdown in the History section, choose "Use custom settings for history." That will open up some more choices. One of the things that will appear is a button that says "Show Cookies…." That will give you a window that allows you to deal with cookies. http://images.yuku.com.s3.amazonaws.com/image/png/8ad358c95f3c4db25f2f408807c45008fa800a4.png Hitting the dropdown arrow next to the site name will let you deal with individual cookies, but you can probably just select a site, then hit the "Remove Cookies" button. Note that Firefox's cookie manager doesn't respect the "protect" options set by CookieCuller. If you're using CookieCuller, I'd stay away from this interface.
  13. I think WiFi would be a lot simpler. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. CookieCuller should be an item in Firefox's Tools menu. When you choose it, CookieCuller's window appears. Here's a screen capture. (I pared down my list of cookies to make the capture clearer.) http://images.yuku.com.s3.amazonaws.com/image/png/5f615a5f4c5f470091da9af54e44442812b3186.png To protect a cookie, select it by clicking on it and hitting the "Protect Cookie" button. (The button is grayed out in the screen capture because I've selected a cookie that's already protected.) Once you protect a cookie or cookies, hitting "Remove All Cookies" will remove all cookies except for the ones you've protected. If you're not sure which cookies to protect, you can protect all cookies for a site. If you have a little bit of patience, you can generally narrow down which cookie or cookies actually keep you logged in. As examples, Yuku needs exactly one cookie (CE from yuku.com) while Netflix needs two. You don't need to protect any cookies from brewersfandemonium.yuku.com or lambeauleap.yuku.com. I have help.yuku.com protected because the help desk is on a separate system (which I use way more often than I'd like). If you use CookieCuller to protect certain cookies, make sure that "Cookies" is unchecked when using Firefox's "Clear Recent History…" tool. If you toss your cookies that way, Firefox will clear them all, protected or not. Make sure that you do all cookie cleanup within CookieCuller.
  15. Yeah, I was figuring that the limit would be cookie-based. I use CookieCuller, which allows me to protect a small handful cookies (such as the login for this board), while dumping all the others. I believe the New York Times allows a much lower number of free articles. But I also believe it offers more free ways to access. If you find something in a Google search, you can read it. It might be that articles are accessible via any link outside of the New York Times website (e.g. links from this board). It's very possible that I could be confusing some of the New York Times policy with that of the Wall Street Journal. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Back to the Journal Sentinel, it appears that Kindle subscriptions will incur a separate charge. Does that require development that's separate from that of web pages?
  16. Anyway, we'll give it a couple more days to see what thoughts others have. That would seem to make sense. We should have featured this topic on the front page when it was first posted back on the 30th. It didn't actually get featured until Thursday. A couple more of days of input would seem to make sense. After that, go for it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Thanks for taking care of this.
  17. Its awful that BF was allowed to call their calc WAR. I get that's its somewhat arbitrary, but why call it the same thing if you go second. You are going to cause nothing but confusion. You mean BR? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I agree. Baseball Prospectus did the same thing with isolated power, calculating it differently than originally designed. There's value in both ways of calculating, but geez, give the stat a new name.
  18. Addendum: The Monkees TV series used the modern music video format in every episode.
  19. I think that mostly, music videos other than concert footage didn't exist. There would have been a few, but not all that many. For what it's worth, the first music video approximating the format we've seen since the launch of MTV was by Ricky Nelson and was aired on an episode of Ozzie and Harriet around 1960.
  20. I'm sorry to hear about your family's loss, Brett. My dog lost most of his running around loose privileges when he started showing an interest in going near the road on his own. I had him for years before that started. I think he started figuring that he could take his regular walk, leash or not and master or not.
  21. When loading the Paul McCartney All My Best! CD into iTunes, the CD was split into five different "albums." Several songs by Paul McCartneySeveral songs by WingsSeveral songs by Paul McCartney & WingsOne song by Paul McCartney & Stevie WonderOne song by Paul McCartney & Michael JacksonBy rights, there should have been one more "album," as Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey was performed by Paul McCartney & Linda McCartney. The fix is easy enough. You go into "Get Info" for these songs and designate Paul McCartney as the "Album Artist." It would have been nice if the online database would have filled that in for me, though.
  22. It doesn't help that consumers have seen the fire sales by HP and RIM and think that $99-$199 is what one should expect to pay for a full-featured product. I think that this has hurt the Android tablet market even though neither of those products are Android. It seems that Apple has been immune to the effect of these sales. Windows 8 has been the victim of quite a bit of poorly researched reporting. Metro on ARM will likely turn out to be a nice setup. That's going to be lost when people figure out that they can't run their desktop versions of Office on these devices.
  23. Best wishes from me, too.
  24. Here's the previous Random MLB News And Discussion topic: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=24445
  25. Windows 8 will be launching this fall with ARM support so low cost full fledged Windows tablets may be possible. ARM devices will only support the Metro interface, so while you'll have a degree of compatibility with your Windows 8 notebook or desktop, you won't be able to run your desktop apps. To run desktop apps, the tablet will need need an Intel-style processor, which is hotter, pricier, and uses more battery power. It's kind of funny reading the blog comments in regard to Windows 8 tablets. People want a larger screen than the iPad, the ability to run Windows desktop apps, long battery life, and a cost under $500 — all in the same unit. That ain't happening. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif A $200 Kindle Fire seems like a great way step into this tech and see if on your next round you want to go with the cutting edge. Yeah, I agree. People will get a taste of using a tablet and want to "graduate" into a more capable device.
