  1. Davies' stats excluding the first three lousy starts in April: [pre]GS IP ERA K/99 BB/9 HR/9 K/BB WHIP W-L Team W-L 16 97 2/3 2.86 7.3 2.0 .92 3.59 1.04 9-1 10-5[/pre]
  2. I don't know a lot about these players outside of what I've read in this long thread, and I don't think the Brewers should be picking someone based on the fact that they're thin at one position or another. But if a guy like Guzman is the best player available, so be it. As long as this PTBNL is a "top prospect," I wouldn't consider his acquisition to be a "downer." The downer would be getting someone who made us feel that the team wasn't getting a fair return.
  3. Thanks. With Davies' excellent season, that incorrect WHIP sticks out like a sore thumb. I'll fix it.
  4. Santana showed enough after his August call up last year to get a chance to play everyday, too bad he got hurt and their is lackadaisical play questions. It could very well be that what appeared to be lackadaisical play was actually injury-related. I think we have to give Domingo a mulligan.

  6. Because "Jr." is not part of a surname, I wonder if Rickie had to get approval from the commissioner's office to have "Weeks Jr." on his jersey.
  7. Today's game is on WKTI 94.5 in Milwaukee. Neither mlb.com nor MLB.TV reflect that schedule adjustment.

  9. Game day says 5-5 with a walk. Even better. I got that number from BA, who was either wrong or not quite clear. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, he probably said six plate appearances. Or maybe I just didn't pay proper attention.
  10. Going into tonight's game, Broxton has a .292 BA / .393 OBP / .708 SLG / 1.101 OPS on this callup. 3 for 3 tonight (including a double) just makes it prettier.

  12. I like these AZ home uniforms. Very sharp! They have several. They may pull out the clown uniforms tomorrow.
  13. Rene Lachemann and Alex Grammas should probably be part of the worst manager conversation, although in each case, you could argue the circumstances rather than the man. Grammas didn't have good teams. Lachemann was an inappropriate fit for a team of veterans who were set in their ways. Davey Lopes wasn't all that good either.
  14. I'll add to this by saying that I'm not fond the relatively recent metaphor that refers to players as "pieces." It's somewhat dehumanizing. Women can probably relate to this more than the majority here as they've been referred to pieces of you-know-what forever.

  16. Don't plan on good picture quality. And figure that oftentimes, the TV broadcast is a radio simulcast. But it's reliable, and it's very good functionally. I haven't run into connection issues or anything of that order. I believe the only apps are for iPhone and iPad. There's nothing for set-top boxes that I know of, but if you have an Apple TV, you can AirPlay the games from your iPhone/iPad to your television. Watching in a web browser requires Flash. The bottom line is that you get to see the games, and that's cool. Triple-A and Double-A games are well covered. Levels below that are hit and miss.
  17. Welcome to Brewerfan, BiggyBallzer.
  18. 30% strikeout percentage If I saw that stat without being familiar with it, my first question would be "percentage of what?" I think teams are aware that not all innings and pitch limits are created equal. And I think most people who post here are aware of that too. It's just that we don't always bother to make that clarification every time we post.
  19. It depends on how much you're trying to include. OPS covers a lot. It doesn't give enough weight to OBP, but that's not necessarily a fatal flaw. It's frequently a good stat for a quick glance, and it works well as a scoreboard stat. OBP obviously omits power. SLG omits walks. BA omits both. I think BA/OBP/SLG looked at together can give a nice picture without having to bother to find an advanced stat.
  20. Doug Melvin would still have been in charge last September.
  21. Is a starting ML ss more valuable than a three position (ss,2b,3b) mostly starter/supersub? For sure. But the trade-off is that you have a better overall team when have a good full-time shortstop plus the "mostly starter/supersub" who can play short. In this case, Villar may fall in the middle: the guy who starts at another position but becomes the shortstop when needed to do so.
