  1. Per Tom Haudricourt, here are tonight's lineups. The Brewers are sending out six lefties. Brewers 2B Craig Counsell RF Frank Catalonotto LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder SS J.J. Hardy 3B Mat Gamel CF Jody Gerut C Jason Kendall LHP Manny Parra Marlins 3B Emilio Bonafacio LF Jeremy Hermida SS Hanley Ramirez 1B Jorge Cantu 2B Dan Uggla CF Cody Ross C Ronny Paulino RF Brett Carroll P Anibal Sanchez
  2. In a typical (and ideal situation), I think you would find that the general manager decides on the roster with his field manager having input. Likewise, the field manager would decide who plays and when, with the general manager having input.
  3. "He gives up runs every time he comes up and pitches" belongs in a vent thread, not in an article and not in a blog entry intended to inform. It's egregiously unprofessional.
  4. What impresses me is that the Brewers rank 14th in total households (71,000). I would think that would be significant when negotiating a TV contract. When arbitrarily removing the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, and Cubs, the average of the rest of the teams is 65,560 households.
  5. Looking too quickly at the tags 1992casey applied to this thread, I thought the second one said "bums" instead of "burns." While I was in the vacinity, I very happily changed all of the "julio" search tags to "formerbrewers." I see TH's blog entry was also mentioned in the massive Julio signing thread. If nothing else, I think Mike Burns deserves a new thread, though. EDIT: JB12, I think the Brewers also find themselves in need of someone who can fill McClung's role for the next couple of days. Burns would seem tailor made to do that.
  6. When Bob Wolfley reported that "Television ratings for Milwaukee Brewers games on FS Wisconsin this season show the tenth-largest jump in baseball compared to last season," my first thought was that their ratings were already excellent and that there wasn't the room for improvement that other teams had. The information kramnoj provides seems in line with that thought. I haven't heard anything about the value of the new TV contract except for this this snippet in an LA Times article about the possibility of the team acquiring Jake Peavy: Thanks to tristarscoop for pointing out the link. Note that we already have a Jake Peavy thread. There's no need to discuss his situation in this thread. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. If the top half of the 5th inning has been completed and the home team is ahead OR if the bottom half of the 5th inning has been completed and either team is ahead, the game can be called and considered official. (The World Series now appears to be an exception to this.) If the visiting team takes the lead in the top half of the fifth or a later inning, and the home team doesn't have a chance to complete the bottom half of the inning, the game is suspended. This situation used to revert to the last full inning, producing either a tie or a home team win. This change was made a couple of decades ago. Tie games are suspended. They used to be replayed from the start. This change was made a couple of years ago. The Brewers and Marlins were the teams involved in the first suspended tie game.
  8. That would mean moving Riske to the 60-day DL? If we move Riske to the 60-Day DL...does that open a roster spot on the 40-man roster for a move from AAA? Can a roster spot be made here by involving Riske? Yes, a 40-man roster spot is opened up. Players on the 60-day DL don't have to be reinstated until some point after the season ends. Also, moves to the 60-day DL are retroactive to the date a player is placed on the 15-day DL. We had a panic attack here a couple of years ago when a player was placed on the 60-day DL a week or so before he was supposed to come back. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. DTFC Minnesota Twins Forums has closed. Their closure notice thread recommends Twins Territory. I've added the site above, but there's little activity on the message board, and other areas of the site appear to be in "upstart" mode. There's some nice blogging on the main page, though, including some recent pictures of Target Field. If anyone can recommend any additional Twins fan sites and/or message boards, Joe or one of the mods can add them.
  10. Macha was saying after the game that he was basically short pitchers, and that after tonight, the Brewers may need to bring in another arm by tomorrow. My take was that he sounded like he really didn't want Julio in there in the first place, but that there wasn't much choice and he was hoping to get away with it against the number eight and nine hitters.
  11. Had Ben been available, Sabathia may not have needed to make as many starts on three days rest.
  12. Leopard will support WEP. I've connected that way before (against my wishes and better judgement. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif) The problem occurs when situations occur the other way around. Some old OSs and wireless cards won't do WPA.
  13. Anyone else think those seats should be abandoned for the sake of mounting a second display board between those columns so those that sit in the outfield can see what is shown on the centerfield scoreboard (but can't because of the angle)? Great minds think alike, TSack27. I've often thought that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Doing that would be compelling reason to lose those seats. I don't see one otherwise. OglivieHomePerm, although I think I'd suggest finding another 100 seats elsewhere in the park to sell for a buck on the day of the game, your idea certainly makes sense.
  14. When logging into your WiFi and you're asked for a password, are you sure you're choosing the right type of password? As an example, mine's WPA Personal. You should be able to flip a popup menu when you see the password prompt; trial and error might be enough. Otherwise, going into your router controls will show you which type of password you're using. I assume you checked your password for proper case. I had trouble with mine the other night; it turns out that I had forgotten where I had used upper and lower case in the password. If worse comes to worse, your Internet provider should be Mac savvy and able to help you resolve this.
  15. Not who you want to be our catcher, but who do you think actually will be our main catcher? I can't see Melvin relying solely on Rivera, Corporan, Salome, and LuCroy. I think he'll be looking at options outside the organization along with giving due consideration to bringing Kendall back. I could see the choice ending up being Rivera as the main starter with Kendall or another veteran as the backup. Or I could see Rivera splitting time about equally with someone.
  16. I wonder if the State of Wisconsin also owns the VA land. If that's the case, there'd be some consistency with poppy guy's statement. Also, I'm wondering how things turned out for Buckethead Brigade yesterday. Regarding the issue with the Uecker Seats themselves, they seem to be a fun thing for hard core fans, and they generate some publicity. I don't see a need to change anything. If I were buying those seats, I really doubt that I'd be carrying in food. If I'm going to be moving around the park for most of the game, I'd want to travel as light as possible. When I bring in food, I'd rather settle into seats and occupy them for the whole game.
  17. hawing, you need to continue with the jacket and the SO needs to continue with the shirt. There's statistical noise--just as there is in trying to identify clutch or determining how catcher's ERA might fit in. But we just have to accept it; go with the flow; and remember that in baseball, superstition prevails over anything else.
  18. Did the Brewers ever come out with their own iPhone app? The last time I was able to check, about half of the teams had one, but the Brewers weren't among them.
  19. Kate Smith's God Bless America is much better than that of LeAnn Rimes. I wonder what the purpose of the change was.
  20. I didn't get a look on TV, but this is the bandage that Yo wore yesterday at an autograph signing. http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/1276/dscf0706.jpg Thanks to MickeyDavis for taking and posting the picture.
  21. It looks like Escobar's likely headed back to shortstop. It's a bit confusing. Tom Haudricourt writes as if it's a "definite." Doug Melvin's quotes are more like "probably." Escobar going back to short
  22. I thought it was a quarry rather than a dump.
  23. DirecTV channel 669 (FSN-WI) didn't turn off like usual after the Brewers game. It's currently showing a Spanish-speaking infomercial for food processors.
  24. Brian Anderson just said that Joey Votto is now on the 15 day DL.
