1. Yuku will walk you right through the process. If you don't have PayPal, you should be offered the option to use a credit/debit card. PayPal would handle the transaction without actually signing you up for an account. Note the pricing structure. Larger donations let you contribute more views per dollar. As an example, if you're thinking in terms of a $25 donation, $30 will give you more bang for your buck. In all cases, you'll get some free Yuku Supporter. The amount you get is based on the size of your donation. If you're currently a Yuku Supporter, your subscription will be extended. As a Yuku Supporter, your views won't be counted against Brewerfan's charged views. Also, you won't see Yuku-generated ads anywhere on Yuku, including profiles or on boards that would normally display ads.
2. Too many people walk around Miller Park as if they don't realize that anyone else is walking around Miller Park. This includes those who cross the "main flow" of the crowd, like getting from the seating area to the restrooms and concessions. People need to turn their heads a bit and see what others are trying to do.
3. Take a look at this thread. Opening a thread redirects you elsewhere or produces a popup: please report If you can gather as much information as you can about the popup or redirect (see that thread's lead), it can be passed on to Yuku.
4. Make sure you post a picture of yourself watching the best TV in the house with your feet on your pizza box ottoman while you're wearing your wife's clothes.
5. I guess it's supposed to be compliant when it's running in the right mode. Each of the last two IEs have made improvements in the compliance area. However, when IE 8 is running in compatibility mode, compliance goes out the window. Compatibility mode is necessary to view the Yuku boards, for instance. It appears that fixes and workarounds to make earlier IEs work properly are also affecting IE 8. I couldn't tell you if this situation is Yuku's fault or if it's Microsoft's fault. There are times when Yuku "sniffs" browsers when it should be "sniffing" for feature support. That would be Yuku's fault; the Safari/Chrome mess is an example. However, the fact that Yuku has to "sniff" anything at all would be Microsoft's fault.
6. The batter gets credited for a walk when he's walked intentionally. That's one of the reasons Barry Bonds' OBP was so high. Likewise, getting hit by a pitch counts toward a batter's OBP.
7. I'll merge the messages that were posted above into that thread. The topic seems appropriate for either forum. Since the discussion started over there, I'll leave it there for at least the time being.
8. Note that if you bring some beer and don't have a car, you'll have to drink the beer before entering the park... or give it away to some tailgators.
9. I'll lock this and merge copies of the first two posts into that one. I'll also adjust the title of that thread.
10. There are some other things that make sense to pay attention to. Firefox 3 uses a newer rendering engine than the other Mozilla browsers. There are differences in those engines. I'd assume that the other Mozilla browsers will "catch up" and behave like Firefox 3 at some point. We see one of those differences right here on the board. Firefox 3 handles wide material in posts differently than Firefox 2 (and the other Mozilla browsers). The Firefox 3 behavior is now similar to the Safari and IE families. Wide material forces the whole thread page to be wider. Firefox 2, the other Mozilla browsers, and Opera will automatically place a scroll bar within the post. Mozilla must have decided that Microsoft and Safari had the correct interpretation of the standard. Other Mozilla browsers that should be given an special look are Camino and K-Meleon. Camino is set up to interact specifically with OS X. K-Meleon is Windows-specific. The rest of the Mozilla family is essentially platform-independent. Page rendering in Camino and K-Meleon should be similar to the other Mozilla browsers, but programming aspects of a site might be affected. There's a toy in Yuku's admin controls that works in all Mozilla browsers tested except Camino. I don't know if anyone's checked K-Meleon.
11. The list above has been updated. To make it easier to follow new replies, previous replies have been removed. Some sites are marked "appears to be defunct." That'll give them a chance to come back before they're deleted entirely. I didn't check the newspaper section. Those tend not to change much.
12. Have you experimented with alternate browsers (SeaMonkey, Safari, Chrome, Opera)? I'm not recommending a switch because Firefox should be good, but experimenting might help narrow down the cause of your problem. Note: Safari and Chrome don't load Yuku's nifty WYSIWYG editor without jumping some hoops.
13. Obviously, you shouldn't be getting logged out that often. But if you're getting logged out on more than one site, your issue probably is probably not a Yuku issue. If you think it would help to talk to Yuku staff, I can help you with directions for filing a help ticket. This is the cookie that keeps you logged into Yuku:
14. Chrome is part of the Safari family. They use the same rendering engine. For the most part, you have the IEs and everything else. The "everything else" is standards compliant and should work fairly similarly. The IEs are noted for their unpredictability. Still, there are differences between the standards compliant browsers. They can be due to a slightly different interpretation of the standards, or they could be due to bugs. Rendering bugs are fairly rare in these browsers, though. But as I alluded to above, differences between standards compliant browsers are nothing compared to what IE does. Even different versions of IE can vary wildly. Also, the IEs have all those "modes" to pay attention to... standards mode, quirks mode, compatibility mode, etc. Note that standards compliant isn't necessarily "standards complete." CSS 3 is filtering in, for instance, but because it's not yet "official," different browsers have implemented different aspects of it. I guess if I were to look at a major project like you're doing, I'd test the IE family, the Mozilla family, the Safari family, and Opera.
15. I thought this was hilarious so I included the whole thing. Love Prince's comment. If that's not cool with the mods you are obviously free to take it out When a passage is fairly brief, it should be fine to quote the whole thing. I did add a link... that's still appropriate because it's part of citing the source. A note saying something like "Because this is brief, I've quoted the whole thing" would alert people that they wouldn't necessarily have to click through.
16. It looks like ESPN's log of the Indians-Yankees game suffered from some kind of overload. This is all it says. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Cleveland - Top of 2nd SCORE Chien-Ming Wang pitching for New York CLE NYY M DeRosa struck out swinging. 14 2 14 Runs, 13 Hits, 0 Errors
17. In the Milwaukee area, my dad's rose bushes were starting to grow leaves back around the fourth week of March. Up here, leaves will start turning color in mid-August.
18. Being up in north central WI, we can pretty much tack at least a couple of weeks onto that April 30th date. More significantly, Milwaukee's last freeze averages April 30th. We're not safe until around Memorial Day, and even then, it's iffy.
19. I know a couple of mods mentioned the white/gold combo when Brian unveiled a previous prototype to us several months ago. It's typical for me to be among the first to scream bloody murder when I can't see something due to color choices... but in this case, I could see it. Of course, I only looked at it on one monitor. Switching one color on a page/site is a snap, meaning it can be done at any time without being disruptive. It's no sweat making that adjustment when the site is up and running. When the board migrated to Yuku, several skin adjustments were made based on member feedback. (There was the day that I turned the whole board black and yellow for IE 6 users, but I digress....) Keep in mind that it's probably better to do a final evaluation of a color combo from a "live" page rather than a screen capture.
20. I've moved a couple of posts about site rules into this thread: Moderators: Can we have a venting forum? / other moderating concerns That way, we can let this thread concentrate on site features, functionality, and usability.
21. The site will now expand to fill the entire window instead of being a fixed width (I think it's 800px right now or so) to take advantage of wide screen monitors. That will also help those who have smaller monitors, especially on tiny handheld devices. And it'll also help people like me who use a wide screen monitor, but don't normally browse with a full screen. I like to reserve about half the space for other things. Fewer graphics to speed up loading times (although, we will be doing more with photos and videos on pages where it makes sense to do so)... That organization is perfect. People shouldn't have to deal with long page loads when they're unnecessary. When they open a photo gallery, they know what they're getting into. It's amazing how many pages load poorly, even on high speed connections (MLB.com, I mean you). Plus, there's still a subset of people who still use dialup. DSL didn't make it to my house until last October (http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif)--and I hear it's very atypical for people in a location as rural as mine to have it. Also, for handheld use, 3G coverage isn't everywhere. That would affect all handheld users at one point or another.
22. Does anybody think we should have stuck with (Mench) to see what he could do? Given that at age 30, Kevin could only warrant 131 PA and produced a .677 OPS with the Jays last year, then signed to play in Japan, I think not. The cards were stacked against him when the Brewers let him go, and there's nothing that would indicate that the situation would change. At least we got 1.5 seasons of Cordero. That's big. The Brewers were contenders in 2007, and Cordero was a significant part of that team.
23. I got the game time graphic set for you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
24. I'm going to close this thread because it falls into LambeauLeap territory. Here's the topic: John Madden retires from broadcasting. I'll make sure that everyone who's posted to this thread has posting permission over there. If you don't already have access to post, you should be receiving an "invitation" PM in the next few minutes.
25. Yuku has been able to import from ezBoard and MSN, but it hasn't offered any way to export at the member or board level. The only things we can export and import are our skins, posticons, and (I think) emoticons. These items are only comnpatible with other Yuku boards, however. Brian can speak more to this, but the concept that was put in place a while ago kept the main Miller Park graphic. Graphics were reduced elsewhere in favor of CSS.
