  1. At least it came back right away this time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  2. I'd bet the issue with Bray, DiFelice, and Dickey is that they're not on the 40-man roster and that the Brewers don't feel inclined to dump players to make room for them right now.

  4. Married...With Children: Very indirect Milwaukee Brewers reference... While auditioning for a game show, Al had to answer this question: What occupational oddity is shared by Henry Aaron, Willie Mays, and Babe Ruth? Answer: They all started and ended their careers in the same city, but for different teams.
  5. Chat's back up ... for now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. I paged James a few minutes ago.
  7. According to my program guide, tonight's game is on DirecTV channel 658 outside the Milwaukee area.
  8. Yeah, it belongs in Lambeauleap's College Football forum. Feel free to paste your thoughts over there.
  9. More detail on the cuss filter issue
  10. A couple things to note here... Splitting and merging topics A couple of nights ago, Yuku gave moderators the ability to split and merge topics. Merging can potentially be a really cool tool to avoid having to lock duplicate threads. The only drawback that I see is that the forum software doesn't offer the ability to leave some kind of indication of the old threads that were merged. When we use this feature, we'll probably have include a message explaining what we did, indicate something in an edited thread title, or both. We don't want members to think their topic was deleted when it was actually merged. The splitting feature is pretty rudimentary in its current state. We can split a thread in the middle, with all posts above the split going into one thread and all posts below going into another. This might be handy under some circumstances, but I think it'd be more useful if or when Yuku can give us a few more options. The cuss filter Last night, I kicked in an experimental cuss filter that was way too buggy to continue to use without further modification. We're now back to the pre-experimental state. There are two ways we can filter cusses: We can use Yuku's default list and supplement it. We can skip using Yuku's default and create a completely custom filter. The problem with Yuku's default is that it filters too many words that have legitimate usage. An example is that Yuku's cuss list filters 'Dick'. Besides all the baseball people with that name, it's also Jim's dad's first name. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif In a case like this, members clearly ought to be able to use common sense as to when to use the word. Although it violates forum rules to circumvent the filter, until we get this fixed, feel free to circumvent to refer to gentlemen who have this name. The issue with creating the filter from scratch is that it doesn't act the same way Yuku's default does. I pasted Yuku's list into it, taking out the words like 'Dick'. Suddenly, common everyday words were being filtered. Most of the problematic terms fall into the common sense category, anyway, and shouldn't have to be filtered. The only reason I left them in at all was that they had zero legitimate usage. The bottom line is that the cuss filter is supposed to be a useful tool rather than a big brother censorship thing. Obviously, it's going to handle the main cusses; that's expected. Where it's supposed to be helpful is that it should gracefully handle the less obvious stuff. Example: because Brewerfan allows 'damn', it isn't painfully obvious that we don't want members saying 'god damn' in their posts. The filter should be considered a friend rather than an enemy. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anyway, it's back to the drawing board. Basically, every word or part of a word in the filter has to be tested before a custom filter is reimplemented. If there's a relevant update on this issue, one of us will keep you posted.
  11. There've been some problems with refining the cuss filter to get it to do what we need and want. Yuku's default is too aggressive; the replacement that kicked in about midnight last night was too buggy. I reverted the filter back to the 'pre-experiment' stage about an hour ago. I'll post more detail in Issues when I get a few minutes to do so.
  12. As those who've been in the chat room know, James (Ransom) is working on this issue.
  13. I got in for about a minute. James (ransom) was in and out during that time, so I assume he's working on the issue.
  14. I merged the two prediction threads into this one. I kept Hall4President's post as the lead message in the thread, but chose splitter's title. This new toy is fun. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. What complicates all this is that with Packer games, radio coverage becomes very spotty. There's plenty of TV bandwidth, though, as the Packers aren't on FSN or WMLW.
  16. brewcrew00's post above from the duplicate thread has been merged into this discussion.
  17. If Yo has lots of easy innnings, as he did two nights ago, he should have some innings beyond the 'limit' in his tank. In reference to Sutton, Don was actually part of the majors' first 'regular' five man rotation.
  18. Because the playoff roster thread begun last night was a duplicate of the one in the Designated Threads List and because Yuku gave us this capability last night, the two threads have been merged into one.
  19. Calling another member a 'joker' is clearly a violation of forum condescension guidelines. Please re-read the rules, especially the stuff about what kind of discussion isn't allowed.
  20. Yep. Mentioned in reply #6 under Petticoat Junction.
  21. I just got in right away. I've gotten errors before, but trying again has tended to work.
  22. Kelsey's 20 years would have been from 1984-2004. Cheers Internet Movie Database page Frasier Internet Movie Database page Kelsey Grammer Internet Movie Database page What isn't clear is exactly when Kelsey showed up on Cheers: spring of 1984 (season two) or fall of 1984 (season three). I'm sure that could be found out with more digging. This isn't a sitcom, but the longest-running character on a single scripted show would have been James Arness, Marshall Dillon on Gunsmoke.
  23. I tend to prioritize splitting up lefties in the heart of the order and going from there. I've also bought into some of the 'new age' statistical work that suggests that the #1, #2, #4, and #5 hitters should all be better than the #3 hitter. There's a lot of detail on that in this thread: Can Braun hit Cleanup?
  24. The article scanned beautifully. As a heads up, if you view it in Opera, you can easily zoom it for easier on-screen reading.
  25. A few more: Step by Step: The series was set in Port Washington. Step by Step: At the time the series made its debut, stars Patrick Duffy and Sasha Mitchell had spent the previous two seasons starring as uncle and nephew on Dallas. I Dream of Jeannie: This one is more Dallas trivia, but to stay on the topic of sitcoms, I'll work backwards. Anyway... Barbara Eden appeared in several episodes during Dallas' final season, playing a "villainess" seeking revenge on J.R. Whether or not she qualified as a villainess is debatable; many might have considered her as 'in the right' After all, J.R. was the one she was out to get. The story line was that J.R. had impregnated her 20 years previously and had suddenly dumped her without knowing about the pregnancy. Her botched illegal abortion made it impossible for her to bear more children. Throughout all those episodes, J.R. didn't even remember who she was. This was all pretty eerie because it was hard not to separate J.R. Ewing and Lee Ann De La Vega from Major Nelson and Jeannie. There's no way Major Nelson would have left Jeannie. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif The story turned out with 'Jeannie' winning the battle and Ewing Oil. I Dream of Jeannie: In addition to the traditional red and white, Jeannie's blood had green corpuscles.
