  1. Dead links would be a definite concern. I know the W3C has a link checker, and maybe a "report dead link" function could be included. If it the process can be made reasonably easy, I think the Usability Director could be talked into monitoring this thing for cleanup. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I think we'd definitely want to exclude links going to JS Online and mlb.com. I think we'd also want to limit this to feature stories. If there are sites that are known for dropping pages, those could be excluded, too. Excluded sites could be noted in submission guidelines, and if members miss the guideline, those submissions could be 'intercepted' by the underlying programming. Another issue would be subscription links; those should have some kind of notation. Maybe an icon with an alt attribute and tool tip? I don't think it would hurt if there were a bit of overlap as far as stories included in the Link Reports, but I also wouldn't want to see this become a clone, either. I think the "feature story" vs. "game story" idea might be enough to cover that. And Jim, I think you should certainly be excused from any of the work involved in something like this. You're already doing tons for this site. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. ccbrew, I hope you guys don't have to share a television to see games.
  3. I'm wondering how much thought ezBoard staff members ezjennifer and ezMelissa put into their usernames.
  4. Anyone have a "scout/coach" viewpoint on what J.J. might be doing?
  5. Excellent point. I like the idea of saying stretches rather than streaks. It seems to be a much more accurate description.
  6. I'd say the Brewers are being 42% respected. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. http://24.225.31.115/1961/75toppsminibb/76.jpg
  8. Value Above Replacement Player VORP rate accounts for different numbers of at bats (like batting average). VORP is a counting stat (like homers).
  9. With all this talk of mustard and no ketchup on brats, why aren't they pimping Secret Stadium Sauce?
  10. It's a fluke. Damian's laughed about it in interviews.
  11. Let's keep this in the Sheets, Spurling, Balfour, Parra thread. This is an excellent post, which of course, you're free to copy and paste. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. On one hand, it drives me nuts to sit behind people wearing tall hats. On the other hand, I'm willing to go with the flow if these hats are part of 'costumes'. I'd like to hear an explanation on this. As was mentioned above, maybe it's security-related, and it's something that the Brewers put up with during the Buckethead era.
  13. I remember a discussion on Home Plate last summer pointing out exactly the same thing. MVP voters should be considering what would happen if that player had to be replaced. I'd bet a lot of writers don't think in a sophisticated enough fashion to do that, though.
  14. When Miller Park was being constructed, I remember the Brewers saying that the HVAC system was set up so air conditioning could be added in the future. What tends to happen, though, is that the roof is closed at the time rain approaches. With the amount of necessary 'lead time' we hear about when it comes to cooling some of the air conditioned retractables, I'd guess that air conditioning wouldn't do a lot of good. If I'm wrong with this assessment, the team should definitely consider adding it.
  15. Al, why would there be a DH in St. Louis? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I don't like 13 man pitching staffs. You could end up with a situation like last year where Cirillo started two consecutive games at shortstop. But had it taken any longer to diagnose Sheets' injury this week, I'd have been on board. I'd also be on board with a temporary 13 man staff if this long stretch of games overtaxes the pitchers.
  16. I like the idea of Miller starting vs. lefties due to offense. As far as Davis on the mound, I think Damian can be of just as much value on the bench.
  17. Another thought: I'd submit that such a tracker should probably be given a page of its own like the Daily Brew index, Link Report Index, Brewerfan Article Index, etc. That way, the main page would remain neat and clean and the length of the list can be virtually unlimited. Maybe the 5 to 10 newest articles could go on the main page itself with a "Read the whole list" type of link at the tail end.
  18. For those interested in the logistics of the Running Article Tracker thread vs. individual threads, I think SenatorShriv has come up with an excellent idea: Main page article tracker Ideas posted to that thread, of course, are welcome.
  19. I think that's an excellent idea. It would address the logistics involved with the Running Article Tracker thread vs. individual article threads. If articles are tracked on the main page via member submissions, we'd have our index. If someone wanted to start a thread discussing an article, s/he would feel compelled to add some significant commentary to the thread starter. Also, this would take a lot of guesswork out of moderating. That's always a huge plus when that can happen.
  20. Here's a great article from a separate thread that's dropped pretty far without having replies: Born slugger: Fielder's mother reflects as son's Major League fame soars Adding to what TC said, as most separate article threads generate little response and tend to move other threads from the top pages, I think we should use this thread for discussion. If things become unwieldy, we can do a 'course correction' down the road.
  21. May as well note that the "D.ouche Master BobMeister" thread is still over there.
  22. The bus service is affiliated with Wisconsin Coach Lines. I used it last year and it was great. There's a bus every hour, and it costs about $20. AirShuttle6104 is right about it continuing to Waukesha. From what I remember, there are stops at Kenosha, Racine, the bus station outside Mitchell Airport, in Mitchell Airport itself, and downtown. What I can't comment on is using the service from Chicago to Milwaukee. I did it the other way around. The number is still in my cell phone: 262-542-8861. EDIT: Adding to what edod says, I considered the train until I found I'd have to go out of the way to downtown Chicago. Apparently, Mitchell is unique in having an Amtrak station right on the airport grounds.
  23. Bingo! We also need to keep in mind that we can't judge a message board from a semi-WOAH SOLVDD thread. Keep in mind that this site has those, too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. Uh oh! The northwestern part of WI is going to miss the game unless 'subject to change' kicks in. The Duluth-Superior market will see the White Sox vs. the Red Sox. Way relevant. Great link, bucks2281. I wasn't aware that FOX offered such a listing.
  25. Rickie's rotten OBP sample is pretty small, but the SLG sample has been rotten for quite a while. I don't have a problem with letting him work out some issues in practice and in the cage. The poster child for this would be J.J. Hardy and his brief benching in May, 2005. Maybe it'll help that Rickie doesn't get to 'practice' his bad habits on the field.
