  1. I'm surprised there isn't already a thread. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif (Edited subject. Peavy's pitching; Peavey's our guy. - hawing)
  2. Marleyboo, I didn't catch the graphic, but it was mentioned somewhere on these forums. Maybe the Home Run Derby Game thread?
  3. I'd submit that we're allowed to be happy or unhappy after we've been objective. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. Fans love breakout teams, too. Of course, the internet crowd has probably seen this breakout coming for a couple years.
  5. I don't believe the topic of racism is inconsequential or outdated at all. I just don't think using the Brewers as an example of it works very well. The 2004 roster may have been somewhat Caucasian, but singling out one season as an example, especially when there's so much evidence to the contrary, doesn't seem fair.
  6. It bugs me that I have zero understanding when it comes to how gas pricing works.
  7. I remember a thread on this forum about the 2004 column. It was either Patrick or Toby who posted that we (as brewerfan.netters) often didn't even know the race of a player until he got promoted to Beloit and a picture was available. That pretty much eliminates racial bias on the part of this community. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif (The draft pick selection thread would indicate that a lot more player pictures are available on the 'net in 2007.)
  8. I can't help you specifically, but that's important to know. The Field Level bleachers are the only spot in the park where the deck above is supported by posts.
  9. I think the new forum idea is the most feasible way to do this, too. Ethan, the beauty in all this is that if you, hawing, and Brian agree that a new forum is the way to go, you and/or hawing can save Brian some work and do the setup stuff. From what I understand, one of the bigger hassles is that moderators have to be assigned manually and individually to each forum. You'd get nice practice with the forum toys. A secondary hassle would include PMs from moderators you forgot to add, and about a week after it's up, you'll probably get a 'please turn on the HTML option' PM from me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Because doing this would have some impact on the Minor League Forum, I'd like to hear what Jim and pogokat think.
  10. I do remember a thread with that discussion way back when. It could have been Mark, but something tells me it was Bill Michaels. Yeah, it's disappointing to the original poster when a thread goes in a direction that s/he didn't expect. But part of the reason is probably that:Belling is such an easy target. We've already discussed Capuano, Suppan, and Yo's innings limit quite a bit.You might invoke more responses on these concepts if you can detail more of what Mark actually said. I'm curious to know if he acknowledged Yo's innings limit at all. For instance, did he say it was a bunch of bunk? The unique one is the 'insurance' second baseman. Without more detail, I assume he isn't necessarily suggesting that the team replace Rickie. Still, the thing that's odd is that 2B is probably the deepest position on the major league club. clancy, I think one of the reasons for economizing on Yo's innings now is that the team can drop that concern in September and October.
  11. Wow. That name's a blast from the past. You'll enjoy reading this: June 30, 1990 - Battle Royale with the Brewers By the way, I 'unambiguified' the thread title just a bit. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. I like the idea, too. Do these boards have a special forum, or do the adopters simply maintain threads?
  13. bucks2281, Using one of hawing's favorite words, I think if I had to be interviewed all the time and was asked the same stuff over and over, I'd be pretty snarky, too.
  14. I hope ESPN doesn't 'interrupt' Prince.
  15. I compare Stark to the way I play darts. Sometimes I'll hit the bulls-eye. Sometimes the dart will hit the wall and fall on the floor. crewcrazy, I think Bonds has been 'nicer' to the media than the media gives him credit for. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. This isn't what I expected. I was thinking I'd be reading something outlandish?kind of like 2004 when he was pissed that the team didn't adopt his idea of giving way free hamburgers. I think we're pretty well insured at 2B. Did Belling acknowledge the concept of being careful with Yo's innings?
  17. Actually, I like the concept of designating LVPs, Cy Olds, Maury Wills/Bud Harrelson (worst manager), and Hawk Harrelson/Ed Wade (worst GM) awards.
  18. It's gotta be fuchsia. But we can still call it pink. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif If we ever do Yuku, I think that suggestion would actually be feasible.
  19. There's some volatility with WHIP, too, in that it doesn't cover extra base hits. But I should have put it in my list above as one of the first stats I look at. It's another stat that needs 'breathing room', though. Generally, with all players, you need a three year sample to accurately gauge him. If you see a significant positive change in a pitcher's BBs, Ks, or HRs over the course of one season, however, there's certainly reason for optimism.
  20. One of my general complaints over the years was when Ned would have a guy sitting for a couple weeks without getting into a game because he wanted him available for when his 'role' was needed. That'd usually be the long man. As a long man, one of Carlos' roles is to eat innings in blowouts. But we've also seen him in other roles. Because he should be able to provide a lot of innings, I think it's good that he's used extensively. As a matter of fact, I think Ned's use of Carlos somewhat negates my previous concerns about him letting a guy sit for days on end.
  21. Here's the link lcbj68c posted in the locked duplicate: Haren, Peavy to start in All-Star game He also noted that Griffey will bat cleanup and Bonds will bat second.
  22. patrickgpe brought that up in the existing All Star thread. Let's use that one. I'll change the title.
  23. I golf once every few years, so obviously I'm not very good. But one thing I've found is that there are always others who are worse. Maybe that little tidbit will help your girlfriend's outlook.
  24. IDK = "I don't know." I think this discussion can be rolled into the Bullpen management thread. Feel free to copy and paste your comments. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. I guess we could discuss the fact that some statheads prefer RA (run average, all unearned runs included) to ERA. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Please use another way to invite a response. This one crosses the 'baiting' line.
