  1. Is it possible that they could be cutting payroll and thats it? Anything is possible, and you aren’t the only person who has expressed the fear that this is all just a huge payroll reduction, but I honestly can’t figure out why this has gained such traction in some corners of Brewers fandom. What has happened in the last five years to make you think a payroll reduction is coming with young talent throughout the roster, an MVP in his prime, and two consecutive playoff appearances? When the Brewers have really wanted a player, haven’t they spent money on them? They haven’t exactly been acting like the Tampa Bay Rays in recent offseasons. I know the whole small-market mindset makes fans a little quick to criticize sometimes, and when it came out that Stearns and the front office co-authored the proposal to trim MiLB affiliates it made the org look kind of cheap, but the Brewers aren’t the only ones who behave this way. Everyone is looking to spend wiser, not always larger. By the time Opening Day rolls around, however, I’d be shocked if payroll didn’t at least approach last year’s opening day figure. I don’t see any indication that the team wants to do anything in 2020 but win. Let’s enjoy the ride. One thought might be that maybe with the rules changing next year, the Brewers feel like they can't compete without expanded rosters. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but being able to utilize that many guys, especially for pitching has been a huge boon to the Brewers these last couple of years, with it going away now, maybe they feel like the deck is stacked against them. I'm not saying I think that, but that could be ONE school of thought for some that believe payroll may get cut.
  2. Though this trade is an upgrade for the Brewers(and yes it's still early), this does NOTHING to fill the hole left by Grandal's bat leaving. Urias might be a slight upgrade over Arcia(potential for more in the future), but they still need to get another big bat or two(I still love the Castellanos idea above and also one I had expressed) and also still need a HUGE rotation upgrade. For now, I'm pleased but still don't like the lineup...yet. Let's see what the rest of the off season brings
  3. The bad part?? The Padres are in agreement with Drew Pomeranz. Sucks, I really wanted him back
  4. relax. the Brewers didn't make a notable transaction until 12/13 last off season when they traded for Claudio. Didn't sign a notable free agent until 1/14 with Grandal. It will be ok. They also didn't have as many holes to fill last year...this year you NEED a catcher, SS, 1B, TOR arm, 3B.
  5. So is Stearns going to do anything?? He who hesitates finishes last. Oh, that's right, he wants a bargain. SMH. Grandal is gone, now the best FA Catcher is also gone...So DS...your move.
  6. At least one of the bats they should add, to help replace Grandal's is Nicholas Castellanos's. Figure out the positions later...Braun can move to 1st, or maybe even Castellanos could, but either way, his bat would look spectacular in their lineup.
  7. I wonder if it's possible Gregorious is one of their targets??
  8. You have to believe they freed up the money for a reason. You also have to believe they didn't just free up that $$ without knowing exactly what it will take to get whoever they are targeting. My guess is, they are planning on re signing Grandal for sure(and are far enough along in discussions they know what it will take), and hopefully Moose as well. They should still have money available after that to also sign a TOR arm like a Wheeler etc. Remember, contracts are all in how they are structured.
  9. If they bring back neither Moose nor Grandal(I want both and some pitching), and I'm expecting they won't...they will be garbage again unfortunately. You just can't replace that kind of production offensively without pulling off some sort of major trade(and in the process hurting other parts of the team). They need upgrades lots of places(starting pitching, SS for sure), and fixing those spots, and letting Moose and Grandal walk, still isn't going to get you where you want to go.
  10. Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 4m Carlos Subero (@csubero ), the @Brewers highly regarded first base coach, was mentioned to me recently as a possible @MLB managerial candidate in this hiring cycle. Subero will manage Venezuela at the upcoming @WBSC Premier12. @MLBNetwork
  11. Why Peralta Craig?? Just...why?? There is ZERO reason to be using him. If you aren't going to use Lyles, then give Suter the 5th-6th, Pom the 7th-8th, hader the 9th...win the game. No need to mess around tonight with anyone other than your very best arms. That's asking for trouble.

  13. Adam McCalvy @AdamMcCalvy · 4m Josh Hader said he made exactly the pitch he wanted to Hillard. "Exactly where I wanted it. He got a bat on it and elevation took it from there."
  14. Doubtful. It is two games...the results are as predictable as the last four played the last two days. Not what you expected. Flaherty is going tomorrow. they aren't getting swept. It's over. Cards have lost 2 of his last 3 starts. Now back to hibernation like you promised. LOL before I go, I have been waiting for you to show up in one of my posts...I hope you learned that you saw EXACTLY why you don't sell. That's all you wanted them to do and now you're here reveling in them making the playoffs..Just seems hypocritical that you were all over the threads during the deadline preaching "sell, sell, sell", and then now celebrating them making the playoffs like you never said that?? It doesn't work that way...you have to own it. You seem glad they didn't sell now, right?? You should be!
  15. Not going to happen against Flaherty...the Brewers had their chances...just absolutely choked. It's disgusting to think they SHOULD/Could be up a game in the division right now if they had taken care of business in Colorado. Tomorrow feels like a Rockies shellacking to be honest.
  16. I didn't want to say it but I didn't feel good abut him either. I just can't believe the nut punch this game was...well heading to Washington..what a choke job. This was my concern, the Cubs would give them the help they needed and the Crew couldn't capitalize. Just imagine, the Brewers could be 1 game up heading into tomorrow and in the drivers seat had they taken care of business.
  17. That's why they NEED to find a way to win this one, they aren't getting a gift tomorrow. I will take my chances tied with them(just have to match them then), but not needing the Cubs to finish the sweep just to tie them.
  18. He left it middle out over the plate. He knows that's a pitch that needs to be 1-2 feet higher Pitch cast shows it up(not saying it wasn't)
