  1. Way to go Stearns..letting Kimbrel go to your biggest rival. You absolutely CANNOT let that happen. If the Cubs win the division it's on DS. I thought they were "going for it" this year?? Guess not...
  2. Ken Rosenthal ‏Verified account @Ken_Rosenthal 4m4 minutes ago BREAKING: #Cubs in agreement with free-agent closer Craig Kimbrel, pending physical, sources tell The Athletic. Way to go Stearns...let him go to your biggest freaking rival. I thought the Cubs talked all offseason about how they couldn't sign anyone because of monetary concerns?? If the Brewers finish second in the division...it's on Stearns. I thought they were "going for it"??
  3. This would be completely unacceptable by Stearns to let him go to the Cubs
  4. DS...please sign Kimbrel, so CC doesn't have to keep trotting guys like Taylor Williams out there. Starter for 5 or 6. Hader in the 7th and 8th...Kimbrel the 9th...ballgame.
  5. All this fuss about Manny..he can't hit his way out of a paper bag..I'd give him up for pennies on the dollar..give me an offensive Catcher everyday of the week over a light hitting defensive catcher anyday of the week..And yes, I totally "get" the catcher position..I was one.
  6. I don't want to speak for everyone else, but i think it's mostly because he doesn't strike out(like most of the current crew), and he can hit for a high average. Nevermind, he probably won't hit more than 10-15 HR's ever at the major league level. He will probably get on base a lot, which is useful for sure, but that's about all it is...useful. If he doesn't hit for much power(which is likely), or ever drive in 100+ runs(consistently), then he's a good, not great prospect...which is what I think he is. Useful, yes, above average...yes. Elite?? I seriously doubt it, but that is what most here seem to think that's what he will be.
  7. He seems to be too scared to trade Hiura and/or Burnes though, and that is what is keeping him from making a game changing move. You have to give up something to get something. Those two MAY be great prospects or they may not be..no one knows. So what if you pass on a deal like this for Kluber(hypothetically) because you are too afraid to trade hiura and/or Burnes and are staking your future on those two, and what if they end up being the next Matt LaPorta and Jeff D'Amico?? My point is, there are NO guarantees they will end up being very good major leaguers. What I do know is Kluber is a PROVEN Cy young award winner that, barring injury will ONLY improve your team...moves like these are no brainers to me. You just can't be too afraid to pull the trigger and on these two particular guys, Stearns seems to be.
  8. In other words, Stearns is scared...too freaking scared to give up some PROSPECTS that may or may not be good for a CY young winner..scared money don't make money. Meanwhile, the Cardinals, Cubs, and even the Reds are getting better and DS makes game changing acquistions of Corey Spangenberg and Ben Gamel...World Series winning moves for sure!
  9. Wasn't that the whole narrative of last offseason, to assume regression from a handful of key contributors to the 2017 team and wonder why more wasn't done to improve overall roster talent? That was even a concern after the Yelich trade and Cain signings. Well, that regression actually did happen, and the Brewers won ~ 10 more games despite that. Stearns proved last offseason he's capable of needle-moving deals, and honestly last week's release of Schoop paved the way for them to add significant payroll via trade or FA acquisition. The 40-man roster construction currently screams for a needle-moving trade for a starter along with a smart FA signing of either a catcher or 2B. I expect both to happen well before spring training opens, which is still months away - and it's not like the prime starting pitcher trade targets have already been dealt elsewhere. Are you serious about the Brewers signing Harper? Sure, let's have the smallest market in baseball give out the largest FA contract in the history of the game, just one year after spending heavily in payroll and prospects to solidify the OF. And at this point, why in the world would the Mets trade DeGrom or Syndergaard after the moves they've just made, unless in Syndergaard's case they feel like he's on the verge of being damaged goods? I agree on seeing pitchers like MadBum, Ray, Bauer, Kluber, etc as impact fits for this team, but only if the price is reasonable. I didn't mean to imply that the Brewers should sign Harper, I used it to emphasize a point that signing a player like him is a "needle mover", just as trading for Yelich was a needle mover. And yes, the Indians pitchers are PERFECT examples of the kinds of players they should be pursuing and are big time needle movers..yet we have heard NOTHING about any Brewer interest in any of them. As far as cost, there's a price for winning, and again, prospects are just that...prospects. By the way, I think EVERY single fan base(in every sport) is guilty of this in some way or another, but why do fans care so much about the money that their teams spend or may or may not have?? That one has always perplexed me..it's not OUR $$, so what difference does it make?? If say Mark A Wanted to sign say Bryce Harper, who cares?? He writes the checks, not us as fans.
  10. The Brewers aren’t fearful of spending money. They just don’t have as much to spend as those teams you mentioned. I hope you get that if the Brewers choose the wrong large contract, it could cripple any of the progress they have made so far. So that means you don’t try? So...A. Don't choose the wrong one B. I would gladly take a World series title now for some down years 4-5 years from now.
  11. I think they will make some moves, but unfortunately, they will likely be very minor in nature and not "significant" needle moving deals. One game from the WS, is NOT the time to make minor moves, especially when you have to assume regression from some of the current players. And no, signing an insignificant 2B to fill the hole is NOT a needle mover. Some of you may perceive it that way because it's a hole on the current roster, but it's not significant. Significant is a trade for DeGrom, or Syndergaard, or Madbum...a Harper signing etc. Those are all needle movers.
  12. I mean, you don't want Puig celebrating like that?? Get him out. It's that simple. Sorry, but it is.
  13. You just sensed it coming after that catch by Taylor, and after Bellinger beat out that grounder at least i did. This was the downside to using Hader so early..Oh well, what a season it was.
  14. So if Josh gets thru the rest of this inning quickly, do you leave him in even though his spot is coming up next inning?? I think I would..
  15. And he did, not as bad of junk as last at bat, but junk still. Yep, you knew he would...that's what he does
  16. Yep...it's called Kershaw, Baez & Jansen..One more inning of Buehler I'd say, and those 3 go two each... ball game.
  17. I think he's probably thinking there will be other bigger spots later in the game when he'd rather use Santana, Granderson etc..so he doesn't want to burn one of them this early and not have them available later in the game.
  18. This is so stupid...using Hader this early when you are behind..Roberts isn't going to PH, so what is the damn point. there are others that can hold the deficit. the crew probably only gets one more inning to make it happen against walker or it's game over..It will be Kershaw, Baez, Jansen
