  1. Why not give up at this point?? Doug apparently has with his lack of activity today.
  2. DM is full of crap when he says: "We're not giving up on this season. We're hoping to play better baseball," he said. "We worked hard on it. Until you know what the negotiations were and what we were trying to do, those are just words." You didn't work hard enough apparently because by your own admission you weren't willing to give up Escobar or Gamel. So yes Doug, you ARE giving up on the season. Way to give the current team a boost of confidence by getting them some help. And you will wonder why they completely go in the tank from this point forward. I would. If I had a GM that didn't care enough to improve our ball club, why should I be motivated to continue to play as hard as I can when it's probably not going to matter anyway??
  3. Wow!!! Doug wasn't lying when he said he was doing everything he could to improve the ball club. This is an amazing deal, one that will certainly lead this team to the playoffs and beyond this year. Doug is just smarter then every other GM in baseball. All these other teams are out there making deals that their fans are pretty sure will improve their ball clubs and their teams's playoff chances, and DM quietly swoops in and steals someone like Claudio to make all the other contenders quiver in their boots. Thank You Doug!!! Wow, this is just incredible....So THESE are the kinds of deals he works until Midnight to make sure he gets done huh?? I am totally impressed. You just made the rest of this season completely enjoyable. I will be sitting on the edge of my seat with every pitch Vargas and Burns throw as members of our starting rotation, watching them lead us to the playoffs for only the 2nd time in 26 years!!! I can't wait, I am so excited. I am sure Ryan is so very proud of you Doug. he wanted pitching help awhile ago, but you have gone above and beyond the call of duty in making this deal. Wow.
  4. Define mediocre.....Do you consider Cliff Lee mediocre?? Roy Halladay?? Because those are the only guys you likely would have to "mortgage the future" for and ironically both are signed through next year as well. That seems like a good investment to me, no?? A guy like Washburn would be the ace on this staff right now, and I'm guessing being from Wisconsin he'd resign next year. Another good investment, even if it costs Escobar.
  5. Uh, the majority of us on here, who most would define as "die hard" believe Doug is doing the right thing for the franchise. Perhaps you, my friend, are the casual fan who just starting paying attention 2 years ago. Ummm wrong pal.....I have probably been "paying attention" longer then you have been alive. I guess you are one of the "fans" that was happy to have finally made the playoffs after 26 years last year, and if it's another 26 years now, oh well, at least they made it in '08 right?? The window is so small, you go for it when you have your BEST chances. Now are those chances while Prince is still here.
  6. BTW, I'm sure this doesn't belong in this thread, but in interests of it getting seen and answered, this is where I put it. Does anyone have any idea why Escobar is not in the lineup for Nashville tonight?? Maybe he's coming up??
  7. Yes, frankly I do think he was twiddling his thumbs. Other teams have filled their needs. Why can't the Brewers fill at least one of theirs?? You honestly don't think he could find someone in a trade better then Mike Burns or Carlos, without having to sacrifice more then a AA guy or two?? I'm not buying it. I will bet dimes to dollars he could have....He just wouldn't pull the trigger for whatever reason. He told Macha on more then one occasion that he was "trying to make the team better". He lied to his Manager. Cuz if he really was he would have someone right now. What happened to the "we'll be aggressive but smart" mentality?? Being aggressive doing nothing??
  8. Ok Rydogg let me ask this question....for as badly as they played in July, who is to say they couldn't absolutely get on a tear in August?? It's baseball, strange things happen all the time. Look, trotting Mike Burns and Carlos Villanueva out there to make starts when you are still in a pennant race is flat out embarassing. He couldn't have brought in Ian Snell, or someone similar for very little to replace this hodge podge?? It makes me think he just gave up and didn't even legitimately try. That is my problem with it. If he really wanted to find pitching he could have, and there are plenty of guys that could be acquired for a not so steep price that are far better then Burns or Carlos. The fans deserve better then to have to sit through starts by those two clowns repeatedly when everyone knows better pitchers could have been acquired.
  9. One day before the trade deadline and the crickets are chirping. You have got be kidding me that he is going to trot Mike freaking Burns and Carlos out there again?? That is absolutely pathetic. Your team sits a mere 4 1/2 games out with 60 to play and you are going to stand pat?? Brilliant GMing Doug. You need two Pitchers...GO GET THEM. No one says they have to be Roy Halladay(although that would be nice), but there has to be someone out there better then Mike Burns and Carlos. Those two don't even give your team a chance to win. What about the almost 3 million fans that will walk through the turnstiles again this year expecting to see you put together the BEST possible team you can?? What are you going to tell them about your inactivity?? Your answer will undoubtedly be "it appears we weren't a match for anyone". BS....The casual fan might buy that, but the die hard knows better. The smart Brewer fan knows that you are a match, you just refuse to give the pieces that match. Congrats Doug, I'll bet you are looking for a new job next year because we know Mark wants to do something for the fans. Are you not listening to your boss Doug?? Last year you brought us CC. This year you have brought Felipe Lopez which was a terrific move, but where is the help for the pitching staff that YOU assembled?? Other teams make moves and trade top prospects and you sit in your office from 9am-midnight, doing what exactly?? Nothing. What a shame....The fans deserved better this year.
  10. Ok, so let me ask you all this....did bringing CC aboard last year not have a profound effect on the entire staff?? EVERYONE fed off of him and wanted to go out and throw their best every game. It was infectious. That lead to better starts from EVERYONE, not ot mention the lessor wear and tear it had on the bullpen. So to say one guy WON'T make a difference is bunk, it was proven last year that it did make a difference.
  11. Actually a trade for a pitcher is what Doug needs to do right now. there is still time, and he is right, one pitcher(if it's the right guy) can change the entire complexion of the staff.
  12. When Nyjer Morgan and Christian Guzman both go yard in the same game you know it's going bad.
  13. Well, had Doug not dragged his feet and gotten some help for this pitching staff awhile ago, we wouldn't have to witness this. He waited to long. Thanks Doug.
  14. If you can't sweep the Nationals at home, you don't deserve to be considered a contender.
  15. If they are going to do a deal with Seattle, the logical thing in my mind is to also bring back Russell the Muscle as well. How great would he look in this lineup right now?? Play him where you ask?? Plug him in at 3rd. If you must, then platoon him with Mcgehee.
  16. A perfect example of the "new" Brewers fans that Doug is thankfully ignoring...New Brewer fan?? Think what you want. I have been a brewer fan longer then a lot of people on this board have been alive. I also want playoff appearances, and not pinning my hopes on 4-5 years from now when these "prospects" are at their peak. We have no idea what the Brewers team will look like then. It could be Gamel, Escobar and a bunch of misfits, akin to the Phil Garner and Jerry Royster years. The time to win is NOW. Go for it when you have the chance, you could end up regretting it down the road. If it doesn't work out, at least you did everything you could to make it a reality. This saying kind of fits in this situation :It's better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all. Perfectly stated. It's better to have tried all you could and lose, then to have never tried at all.
  17. .it will cost us Escobar, Gamel, Lawrie, Braddock. Perfect!!! Now go get it done Doug....
  18. I ma the original one that said to include Parra in the deal. But, what most of you must have missed is I then said that you go and acquire Duscherer or someone of his ilk, for lessor prospects and you have now replaced Manny, with an even better pitcher IMO.
  19. And then when Halladay leaves after next year or demands to be traded before the season starts it will take the Brewers longer to get the talent back that they just traded away. This would cause the 20+ years of no playoffs again and you are back where you started but this time you are even worse off.And what IF acquiring Halladay wins you a World Series this year or next?? Then I'd say it was well worth it wouldn't you?? And what IF keeping all those prospects wins a couple World Series also. Then you would say it was well worth keeping them wouldn't you? The desire for immediate gratification is hard to resist even when it defies your better judgment. I'd say there is a better chance of Halladay coming aboard and winning a WS in the next two years with Prince still here then there is in the next 4-5 years relying on untapped potential. You play to win the game. Win now, worry about the future, in the future.
  20. 21. What would be an even tougher deal for Toronto to turn down would be if Doug stepped up to the plate and offered Escobar, Parra, Lawrie and Perriard. Done deal. Then trade a mid level prospect for Duscherer, you have now replaced Manny. I should run this ball club.
  22. What if some of that best young talent turns out to be average or slightly better major league talent, and the Brewers don't make the playoffs during those players's prime years?? Halladay does more for the Brewers chances NOW AND next year then Gamel or Escobar COULD do for their chances 4-5 years from now. The Cardinals didn't have the talent to sustain their level of play all year(BTW they weren't supposed to be in the playoffs either this year...not even close) and what are they doing?? Trading prospects to improve their chances THIS year. What a novel concept.
  23. I'd be willing to bet everything that Mark A does NOT want Doug sitting on his hands, and would like to see him make a serious run at Halladay. He owns the team. Let's let him worry about the finances etc shall we??
  24. And the Cardinals continue to deplete their farm system down to nothing. I'm surprised they didn't throw in Rasmus too. Thanks for not being a moron Doug.Who cares about prospects that may or may NOT end up being anything. I'll take proven commodities any day and take my chances of being good that way. Apparently Doug is willing to wait until he's long been out of Milwaukee to see this team make the playoffs again. if not this year, when?? Frankly, I am not willing to wait another 26 years, and that is very well what it could be if you don't take advantage of the legitimate chances you have.
  25. I like Doug but if he isn't willing to do WHATEVER it takes (short of dealing Braun, Prince or Yo), to improve the ball club then maybe it's time to look for a new GM. If this report is true, then the season is over for me. The Cardinals are making upgrades and just gave up their top prospect for a rental and Doug won't give up one of the Brewers top 2 prospects for arguably the best pitcher in baseball?? Thanks for nothing Doug.
