  1. 1. No with young players. He's ok if you give him a veteran team. 2. Yes, Every start in 2003 it seemed like those guys would get near 120 pitches or more. 3. Hard to blame him for that meltdown in game 6. More a failure of players executing and the fact the Marlins were a very good team that year. 4. As much as I dislike Yost, no.
  2. Loved: Jenks, Hamilton, Listach, Cirillo, Matheny (surprised he hasn't been mentioned), Bones, Vina, Vaughn, Sexson, Wickman (Yount would make the list but i'm not including players who weren't traded/released) Hated: Stairs, Newfield, Cordero, Sanchez, Young, Spivey, Obermueller, Kinney. EDIT: how could i forget my hate for wes helms?
  3. Braun semi worries me. Every AB seem to go like this: First pitch: down the middle--taking all the way Second pitch: low and out side--swing and miss 0-2 Ryan's approach isn't putting him in a position to succeed. I think Yost hasn't been awful (this year) with managing his pitchers, but he certainly makes his share of mistakes. Only Shouse and Gagne pitched yesterday and there's an off day tomorrow. Suppan clearly is struggling with no end in sight. What do you do? Hint: the answer is not leave Suppan in till he gives up 6 runs. Also, if the brewers are into the 6th inning and Bush show just a hint of trouble, yost better pull him. To watch Bush all year last year and still make that mistake is frustrating to say the least.
  4. yes they do. I hope Dave Bush pitches well, but I also hope this is the last time he starts a game as a milwaukee brewer.
  5. I always thought the saying was "everyone wins 54 games and everyone loses 54 games. Its what happens in those other 54 games that makes the difference."
  6. well dave bush isn't starting so I like the brewers chances.
  7. the question is if jason is still getting on base at a plus .400 clip at the end of the month do you move him up to the 2 hole or do you go with the if it aint broken don't fix it theory.
  8. brewers are undefeated in night games this year. they are also undefeated at miller park. statistically impossible to lose this game.
  9. so many great memories with ben on and off the field. I can't pick one I just can't. hate to be a downer but my worst memory of sheets is easy. I was at the game when tore that muscle in his back (or shoulder or whatever) against the braves. It was turn back the clock night. He was just dealing and had two strikes on chipper jones (i believe). The pitch was really poor and at first I was confused then I saw ben holding his arm. Miller Park went silent and I yelled out NOOOOO! Brewers ended up winning but I was the worst win I've ever been to. I think he's finally all the way back though and have high hopes. Hopefully the brewers can find some way to keep him.
  10. prince+dreadlocks+no meat+schedule magnet+knickers+flat brim hat+high expectations=ozzie smith power numbers ^the evidence is too compelling to be debated
  11. I remember listening to the end of that game on TMJ while in bed. that game thread is a fun read. the most frightening post... new lineup for tomorrow to jumpstart the team: Pods- Cf Counsell-ss Hall-2b Liefer-rf Kiesch (assuming he hurries back)-dh Overbay- 1b Clark-lf Durrington-3b Bennett/Moeller--C how very very far this franchise has come. The Brewers are better at literally every single position in only 3 years. I think its good to take a step back once and awhile reflect on the job melvin and zduriencik have done.
  12. from onmilwaukee.com . Ben Sheets mentioned him immediately in his post game interview with Trenni. Very sad... Sad news from Miller Park By Drew Olson http://onmilwaukee.com/images/buttons/feedicon.gif Senior Editor After an exciting, encouraging opening weekend at Miller Park, the Brewers announced some sad news this afternoon. Mike Bonan, a 22-year-old Wauwatosa resident who worked in the visitor's clubhouse, died of injuries suffered in an auto accident early Saturday morning. Read More
  13. off days suck Those numbers against suppan are pretty sick. stranger things have happend though.
  14. their pitching might end up being solid, but i don't think they have the bats to score enough runs to win more then 80 games this year.
  15. I'm probably wrong on this, but I thought he picks 8 teams he can't be traded to. I doubt Suppan would be denying trades to contenders who would be looking to trade for a pitcher like Jeff.
  16. I don't understand the fascination with changing camera angles during the actual action. Pre/during pitch=angle behind the pitcher, post contact=angle from behind home plate, post action=so all the replays you want from all your fancy angles. Its not like there's a lack of down time during a baseball game to show replays as evidenced by the constant updates of some elderly man's day at miller park today.
  17. I think what is going to cost the Yankees this year is starting pitching. They'll pay any price next offseason to make sure that doesn't happen again.
  18. Santana is making like 23 million a year with a much cleaner injury history and past success. I would be really surprised if Sheets cracked 20 million a year. I think 18 a year is about as much as he'll get unless there's a big bidding war.
  19. On thing that should be taken into account is that after the season is over that between Sheets and Gagne account for 21 million dollars this year. For those who think Sheets is gone for sure, there's no doubt that Gagne will be as well (same rational, does well brewers can't afford him; poorly or average brewers don't want him back at his price tage). Why not take the money Sheets is already making and Gagne's money and pay him 15 millionish a year? That being said, Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, and Hart are all up for arby next year. That's going to be less then cheap. I do expect another payroll bump next year though--even more so if the brewers make the playoffs. One key could be finding a way to unload Jeff Suppan. I don't dislike him, but he's a luxury the brewers can't afford if they want to resign ben. I'm still of the opinion that Sheets will not be back next year. The Yankees are thin in SP and could outbid the Brewers without a problem.
  20. wish i could take credit. I stole it from the thebiglead.com
  21. as long as you have speed, base stealing is something you can become good at. His CS numbers from previous seasons don't mean much imo.
  22. maybe he signed a huge guaranteed contract and is mailing it in now. wouldn't be the first guy.
  23. I think avoiding sweeps is more important. If you win 2 out of 3 3 game series for the entire season you win 90 games. Sweeps are gravy. Being swept is makes you play catch up.
  24. As did I. I thought Kendall, Mota, Torres, Gagne, and Cameron didn't have a whole lot left to give--more names then actual talent. So far I look very wrong. I hope it continues that way
