  1. Well...Cubs have 26 wins at home, if they win 54% of remaining home games that will be another 25 wins. They have 11 road wins, if they win 46% of remaining road games, that is another 26 wins. Adding it up...26+25+11+26 = 88 wins. So if they are average the rest of the way, they will match the preseason expectation.
  2. The Cubs are 26-8 at home, they are not likely to sustain that pace for the entire season and they are not (yet) even at .500 on the road. The Brewers also have a much better record at home than on the road, but have played 7 fewer home games and 7 additional road games. I think it won't matter what the Cubs or anyone else does, if the Brewers continue to have a terrible record on the road. They have 16 road games before the All-Star break. If they do something like 6-10, their road record will be 19-28, just about matching their road winning percentage from last season. Despite contending last year, with an awful road record, I don't see it happening again this year.
  3. The Cubs did fall faster losing a 9 game lead between August 16 and Sept 10, with a 9-15 record during that stretch. The Mets went 20-6 during that stretch. After Aug 16, the Mets went 36-11, while the Cubs went 17-26, to finish the season in 1969. So it sure would seem like the Cubs "collapse" was also caused by a the Mets having an incredible finish to their season. The Brewers went from 8.5 games ahead on June 23 to tied on Aug 1, they left 1st place for good on Sept 13. The Brewers "collapse" was more pathetic, since all it would have taken to win the division was to be a handfull of games over .500 (or one more win against the cubs to force a one game playoff), while the Cubs ended 1969 with a 92-70 record and yet were 8 games out of 1st. In researching this comparison, I found this interesting site that lets you see the day by day standings in any season: http://www.baseballrace.com/main_racePlayer.asp BTW, the Cubs went 52-38 from the time of the Brewers 8.5 game lead. I would not call that "insanely hot". The only insanity in this comparison would appear to be the hotness of the Mets at the end of the '69 season.
  4. I would also assume that the booing was for taking Sheets out. The real question is was Sheets more upset with himself for not getting the third out or was he upset that Yost removed him without even going to the mound first? I think Ben Sheets has earned the right to at least have the manager talk to him first before yanking him, with only one out to get.
  5. I hope your right. I thought..."wow, he swung so hard he nearly fell over and the ball barely got out"
  6. Nope. The first example in the official rules says otherwise: Peter pitches and retires Abel and Baker, the first two batters of an inning. Charlie reaches first base on an error charged to a fielder. Daniel hits a home run. Edward hits a home run. Peter retires Frank to end the inning. Three runs have scored, but no earned runs are charged to Peter, because Charlie should have been the third out of the inning, as reconstructed without the error. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/official_scorer_10.jsp
  7. Yikes, all this time I thought an error did not count as an "at bat". That's embarrassing considering how much of my 48 years has been spent watching baseball. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  8. Yeah, except whether something is an error or not is sometime pretty arbitrary. I'd rather they include errors, but it's not like it would make much difference. BTW, if errors were included the figure for the example would be .400 not .500. On base twice in 5 plate appearances.
  9. Yes, I think Braun made a good decision for himself in realizing that projected future mega-contracts are not a sure thing for anyone. Not sure why more of these guys are not smart enough to realize that. Also not sure why they can not understand that, as Braun said, "there is not a lot I can not buy with $45 million". I thought the same thing when Ben Sheets signed several years ago, even before his subsequent injury. He (Sheets) was set for life (barring being a complete financial idiot) as of his signing in 2005, yet he now can still go out and get even bigger bucks this time around. (I modified your quote by adding the "not" that you obviously intended)
  10. 48 and don't like him. I'd rather have someone else, but it is not like I would avoid watching a game or would look for a radio broadcast because he is the announcer. I definitely agree that the "BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK GONE!", every home run in the home run derby is unbearable. Not only is it annoying because it is the same thing over and over and over, but he has way too many "backs" and there is no break between them...it's "backbackbackbackbackbackback".
  11. You should not be "sure", as they say they do not have a dietician on staff: "Some teams have a full-on dietitian on staff, but we just don't," said Tyler Barnes, vice president of communications for the Brewers. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=722021 mothershipconnection wrote: You don't lose muscle that fast, people don't go vegetarian and have crazy muscle atrophy begin the next day. Or do you? Protein is the big issue here, according to Nicole Kerneen-Fasules, who works with triathletes, marathon runners, weight lifters, rowers and the like..."If he starts losing muscle mass," she warned, "he'll see a difference in performance within 72 hours."
  12. But if in July he is still having a down year power-wise, what is his trade value going to be?
  13. Why isn't getting hit by a pitch a "true outcome" also?
  14. Maybe he wants the ball to penetrate deep into Fielder's glove so that it stays there http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  15. Perhaps he has found that this just works better for him...who knows, maybe he found that if he does not take a second to settle himself his throws are wild.
  16. He says: In this case, "BadgerBlogger" was primarily at fault I disagree, TH was primariliy at fault for the story becoming as big as it did. If he does not like the fact that he is held to a higher standard and has greater credibility, then he should quit his job and become a blogger. The statement that:The Journal Sentinel's mistake was that it got caught up in the race... is followed by a string of excuses, but..., but..., but...
  17. He knew little about the non-sports blog that "broke" the story, but he had to decide whether it had merit and whether he should acknowledge it. If he ignored it, he could be labeled a Yost apologist. If he reported it, he could legitimize the story. This is a conflict because traditional media outlets operate under long-accepted reporting standards that help safeguard the process of deciphering the truth. He did have the option of waiting 1/2 an hour or so to get independent confirmation or denial from his own sources, before publicizing the "information" reported by the blogger.
  18. Wasn't the Gallardo play one where he went for a tag when it would have been just as easy to go to the base for the force? I know he has made that bone-head move at least once or twice this year.
  19. and only an average one at that.
  20. I'm guessing you could say something similar for just about any discussion on here..."if ___________________, there is no way this thread is happening". If the Seattle Pilots had not moved to Milwaukee, there is no way that this site exists. Would we then all be on northsidebaseball...
  21. a minimum of 2, to June 9...at least that is what TH tells me, that a blogger told him, that a source told him, but I have not been able to independently confirm this. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. I would think hitting in front of Prince has something to do with that.
  23. Yes, if he won't clear, then that would imply he continued to perform at the major league level...so why would you be sending him back down? OTOH, if he is not worth keeping in the majors, who cares if someone else claims him. Finally, if other teams want him and the Brewers don't, then trade him.
  24. Here's hoping they start proving it, but not just yet...this weekend.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Despite a sweep in Pitsburgh, the Cubs are below .500 (9-10) on the road. They have also played the fewest road games in the division.
  25. In this case he was more likely managing to save himself at all costs.
