  1. I'm OK giving up value for someone like Skubal, but I hesitate the include Lara since I think he is going to be a key starter as soon as next year. Maybe Payne and a 4th prospect instead.
  2. I'm curious since it specifically mentioned including benefits if that is normally included in other salary figures? I'm also not sure if benefits for athletes is as significant as it is for other employees.
  3. Nice post, the connection between having that flexibility and being able to get more playing time for better performing players I'm sure is not an accident.
  4. My take away from the Fangraphs article was that contrary to what we often see on the board the team is good at moving on from under performing players and giving more playing time to those who are succeeding. And that is always a hard balance to figure out because slumps happen and you don't want to jettison talent early.
  5. I would expect Sproat and Henderson are both options. First Sproat may well develop during the season and second both he and Henderson have been very effective early in their starts,so whether it is as opener's or just 1-2 inning options they certainly look like they could wrack up some important time.
  6. Cincy loss pushes it to a 4.5 game lead. Also a little intense that the other Central teams are all within 1 game of each other
  7. Unfortunate mistake pitch there from Patrick.
  8. Players showing emotion is fine, I don't think acting like a 90's wrestling heel is showing emotion
  9. Very excited to see Pena back fully in action.
  10. Well let's go for the win and a lead of at least 4 full games, hang on with the Astros over the weekend, and with the dawn of June after that hope for a little roster movement to try and give the solid offensive numbers for the team a little boost from the bottom of the roster
  11. I think a Muppet Movie of the 1982 season would be fantastic.
  12. There was that Thread last week about everyone in the Central being above .500. At the moment the Cubs might be the first to dip underneath, which is pretty insane
  13. I read that statement as because the Tigers can get the Comp pick they can ask for more in trade.
  14. I guess I am a bit in the middle on this, just tracking WAR does not account for the value of higher WAR single seasons, but as we are now witnessing there is definite value having positive contributors and not complete zeros. If SS and 3B were giving us 2 WAR seasons each right now that would help a lot. So I'm willing to say that someone can look at what we have gotten so far in the Burnes trade and be underwhelmed as a very defensible position. But I don't think Hall or Ortiz would need to be All-stars in the future to make the trade a wash.
  15. Any sense of how much longer they are going to let Pena crush the ACL before ending his rehab stint?
  16. I'm torn on Frelick, he does have enough of a track record that you don't just want to cut him loose, and despite not a ton of power it seemed like he used to contribute in a variety of ways. But there have also been a couple of years worth of articles even while he was producing arguing that his profile might not really be all that sustainable...
  17. I don't think anybody would have been surprised to see him be really good but struggle enough with command for a few years. Getting that walk rate under 3 per 9 innings to me is just as impressive as the ability to keep pumping 100+ MPH pitches. There is no question his ability to throw that hard for that long into games is unique. I just wish we had enough data going back to Nolan Ryan to see what the career record for total 100+ mph pitches thrown is (I assume he would own that title, but maybe Johnson would have it instead, I don't think Clemens hit 100 all that often)
  18. I'd consider some level of dealing for the right player, but even with our depth of prospects I'm cautious because the impact of 1 player on our playoff chances is just so modest. Skubal certainly would look terrifying for opposing teams to go with Miz and Harrison at the moment, but in any year they could get hurt in August, Spet, or October spoiling that strategy. Our even other major position players. LA has built up there own self insured type model where they will just use money to make up for any issues that crop up, so there is so much less risk there compared to us.
  19. 12Ks less than 100 pitches and 7 innings is super impressive. As you said if he can start mixing in more weak contact quick outs and complete game no hitter is not out of the question.
  20. I thought it was 4 runs for a 2 inning save, and protecting any size lead for 3 or more innings
