  1. I expect the Pirates stay in 2nd place to be short lived. They have Atlanta and LA back to back starting this weekend
  2. I had forgotten the name of that one, Nilsson could have been one heck of a catcher..
  3. They just played a series at Coors field, so that may be a factor
  4. It's interesting that I thinking the timing of a potential move influences who makes more sense. A few weeks ago that slow start for Pratt had a bit more weight, and looking at William's positional flexibility also was a point in his favor. Now since Pratt has continued to sustain fairly well he has the edge in season numbers, and since he is already under contract Super 2 is not relevant. Ortiz has been moved to the bench sort of, and Rengifo has undermined his position on both sides of the ball. I would agree that at home against a mediocre appoint is a nice way to bring up a rookie. I think it also helps that no one is expecting ROY type performance, just be better than what we have had.
  5. So I'm guessing that Woodford is done once Koenig's rehab has gone far enough. And that would give them a pen full of guys with some reliability which as I've argued in a few other places with the number of options that can also go longer stints really gives you options for keeping folks fresh and managing workload while not having games like yesterday where you concede unless your offense has a day. Holding out for Lockridge works with the division lead, and much like the bullpen gives you some depth if you have an injury later in the season and then maybe Lara gets a chance. Hamilton may have the options, but he is doing the little things that would make him a solid fit as a true utility guy, so I'm guessing we are going to see Pratt or Williams here soon . Putting it together those moves could start to add up to really solidifying the team
  6. Well made it to June and every Central team is still over .500. Perhaps even more impressive is that only 4 of the NL teams are under .500. Just such a huge difference with only 5 AL teams over .500
  7. You knew it was way outside because Sanchez didn't challenge it.. Great quote for the radio
  8. Missing 1 chance with Hamilton on 3rd I can chalk up to the other guys get paid for this game too, but missing out twice on those chances is just not cool from Yelich. So far Bauers looking like co-MVP of the game on with the defense and the HR
  9. Certainly that has been typical for a long time, but with the other guys we already have that can give length I think they can flip the script on this one by having quality guys throughout with 3-4 of them that can go 2-3 innings if needed. And by having quality you can do a better job of alternating and getting everyone an innings here or there while preserving an option for a long man if needed. Given both the nature of our offense and the general consistency of our pitching already I would argue that we will rarely need a guy to just eat some innings in a blowout either way. And you can keep a CRod around as a shuttle guy if needed
  10. Perhaps a fan effort to safely toss a bunch of Tickle Me Elmo's onto the field?
  11. The take home from that should be PCA deserved more
  12. I'm OK giving up value for someone like Skubal, but I hesitate the include Lara since I think he is going to be a key starter as soon as next year. Maybe Payne and a 4th prospect instead.
  13. I'm curious since it specifically mentioned including benefits if that is normally included in other salary figures? I'm also not sure if benefits for athletes is as significant as it is for other employees.
  14. Nice post, the connection between having that flexibility and being able to get more playing time for better performing players I'm sure is not an accident.
  15. My take away from the Fangraphs article was that contrary to what we often see on the board the team is good at moving on from under performing players and giving more playing time to those who are succeeding. And that is always a hard balance to figure out because slumps happen and you don't want to jettison talent early.
  16. I would expect Sproat and Henderson are both options. First Sproat may well develop during the season and second both he and Henderson have been very effective early in their starts,so whether it is as opener's or just 1-2 inning options they certainly look like they could wrack up some important time.
  17. Cincy loss pushes it to a 4.5 game lead. Also a little intense that the other Central teams are all within 1 game of each other
  18. Unfortunate mistake pitch there from Patrick.
  19. Players showing emotion is fine, I don't think acting like a 90's wrestling heel is showing emotion
  20. Very excited to see Pena back fully in action.
  21. Well let's go for the win and a lead of at least 4 full games, hang on with the Astros over the weekend, and with the dawn of June after that hope for a little roster movement to try and give the solid offensive numbers for the team a little boost from the bottom of the roster
  22. I think a Muppet Movie of the 1982 season would be fantastic.
