  1. Way too early to start throwing out arrive by dates. Bradley and Jungman afterall were college guys and fast movers. Arcia is a good comparison as well, he lost that entire year to injury. Guys who can legitimately debut that young are just so uncommon, and just about all of them were touted as mega talents (Griffey, A-rod, Harper). If Lara had that level of talent right now he'd have been the unanimous top prospect. I'm content with the ceiling part of which is the possibility of a young debut and 20 year career. For right now though I just want to see him play.
  2. Good time for Weeks to remember how good he used to be at getting HBP
  3. There would also be all of the others doctors who missed that option. He is not the only person I know who had undiagnosed epilepsy for 20 years. It is a ridiculously variable condition.
  4. Given his age I think Rivera is correctly down the lists. If the platoon splits are valid a utility guy is pretty much his ceiling. He's basically already Gennett's age and just made AA. His offensive skills boil down to a respectable batting average. The top notch defense is certainly nice, but at this point his bat could easily get into Bianchi territory if he played regularly. I like having options to try some of these guys out and see who can handle spot duty.
  5. It's not just Lucroy's bat his pitch framing saves a ridiculous amount of runs.
  6. I have to commend you for making that kind of recommendation. I'm glad it worked out as well as you had believed.
  7. I'd say our own K-rod had a really excellent decade in his 20's. Only one year his FIP ERA was over 4, most seasons it was low 3 or less. His K rate has remained pretty good, though not the ridiculous levels of his first couple of seasons and his walk rates have improved as well. In that way the only significant loss of skill has been a modest creep up in HR rates. Still the general point stands there only seem to be a handful of the elite bullpen guys who have any sort of real longevity.
  8. More intriguing would be that Denson's May was awesome (OPS over 1.000 in 52 PAs) before he got hurt after a just horrible April. If May was close to real and he can close out the season that way he would definitely shoot up the charts in my estimation.
  9. Wooten and Kintzler could be improved on, but they certainly weren't disasters. If DM can keep the system producing a few guys like that every year, who are cheap serviceable depth with options it adds a lot of value to the team especially with bullpen guys where they can go from stud to dud and back again fast, just keep moving those guys around to find which combo is working.
  10. Herrera could as well. You might lose a little on the bat side, pick some up on the defense side, but come out ahead on roster flexibility while perhaps adding a little depth somewhere else.
  11. The Henderson move looks like a short term roster move especially if there is something else afoot. Regardless I'm happy to see Jeffress up and hope he keeps dominating, which would be a nice boost for the pen and team as a whole.
  12. Even if he doesn't improve much (and stat wise he almost certainly has to improve a split of over a .400 OPS points is just silly for a guy who has shown he can hit major league pitching). A person can certainly find a right handed hitting back-up IF who would look a lot better with a platoon advantage on a regular basis. Herrera is certainly not great, but even his .662 OPS against lefties give Gennet effectively an above average offensive performance.
  13. Always nice to see the other team not score when they get a runner to third with no one out.
  14. Don't look now, but 50 ABs in Jason Rogers is working on replacing Hunter Morris as the best option for a minor league first base call-up. I can't imagine he would do enough to actually replace any of our current options unless they completely tanked, but maybe a September call-up if he keeps putting up a solid line?
  15. Sure they aren't in the division anymore, but the Astros failure to sign Aiken is pretty huge especially with Appel's struggles. They are suddenly on a road to rebuilding only to establish mediocrity even with multiple very high picks.
  16. It is far from a guarantee, but given how gushy people were for Orlando's brother's bat I'm surprised more folks haven't upgraded their opinion of his bat, but its quite possible that the difficulty of the FSL is obscuring how much of an improvement he has made.
  17. Definitely I hit the box scores and scan through the game summaries, the other links I use a little here and there.
  18. I'm all for Nelson continuing his streak of 7 inning starts with no runs allowed. Not unexpected news, but still exciting that it is finally here and hopefully it serves as a nice momentum changer.
  19. Tyler Wagner with quite the start going tonight, and Roche with his second 2 hit game in row.
  20. I think that is a bit much, without Zarraga it looks about right to me maybe sans Hawkins as well.
  21. I'm not opposed to the idea, but I wonder what you could hope to get for him? Best case scenario would seem to be a different kind of valuable bench type. Which could be handy, but given the dangers of catching why wouldn't you want to hold onto 2 catchers with potential who are cheap and with options.
  22. In fairness there is a fair amount of inertia in prospect rankings, which on balance is a good thing. It doesn't mean they didn't mess up, but its not like these rankings are precise to begin with.
  23. Somebody would surely be interested in picking him up at this point, he had a solid showing with the As.
  24. Schafer hits for the cycle and Estrada pitches a no hitter, because its baseball.
