  1. If Nola keeps giving up that kind of contact though a big inning is going to happen.
  2. I can certainly see the possibility of dealing a starting pitcher at some point. I am going to guess though that they wait until midseason next year. Starting pitching tends to go up in price then and bats seemingly decline in demand. Also just having the depth and being prepared for part of the season and not having to patch the rotation with a guy is a pretty big strength.
  3. So your saying there's a chance...
  4. I'm more annoyed at the announcers on that targeting call. I get you don't like the rule, I'm not a fan either. But there was a huge missed targeting call in the OSU game and it was a terrible job of being remotely objective about how bad the missed targeting was, and same thing here. Both were very clear calls and they made them sound like toss ups just because they don't like the rule.
  5. Does Leonhard still have any eligibility to show these guys how to play safety?
  6. One heck of a catch, Alvarez still finding ways to help win
  7. Some of us actually have horses, and for parasite management you are supposed to rotate through the different drugs available. Well its time for ivermectin. The metro area Farm fleets went from 50+ doses to 0 of ivermectin in a couple of hours today.
  8. I suspect the combination of the minor league realignment and then the missed season has contributed to a bigger gap between high and low A than previously. I don't know if it will stay that big of a divide in the future, but I would certainly agree with the observation.
  9. What is nothing? I'd settle for cash and a color commentator to be named later.
  10. I begged for a more athletic team in the off-season and Stearns has come through. Even going from Vogelbach to Tellez for me is a win in that department. I hate base cloggers. The weird thing is that in my head I would have assumed that it wouldn't matter unless you tried for a high contact high batting average team like the early 2000's Angels. The eyes and stats both show it is working though.
  11. They don't steal like the '92 team, but I do like having so many players that make base running interesting and fun. They certainly seem to make all the little things payoff pretty frequently.
  12. In some amount of fairness very few teams have ever cranked out as many good young starting pitchers as we have the last few years, and all prior experience would indicate that as a team we were worse than average at developing pitchers historically. I would have been happy 3 years ago if you told me 1 of Woody, Burnes, and Peralta would turn into a TOR pitcher. That has all seemingly changed.
  13. Most likely not, in the past September did not count toward the 45 day rookie status eligibility but that changed so September/October days will count. That really makes it almost ridiculous to think how little credit our prospect rankings would have gotten over time considering how well Ashby might be pitching by next year. It's all explainable, but still remarkable to be in a position to have 3+ All star level starters, and not have a system ranked above 20 in that time.
  14. Good for Sal the batting average alone was making it ridiculous for him to stay much longer.
  15. Yeah not MVP Yelich yet, but looking more like at least Marlins Yelich which still helps a lot with having so many other average or above average bats.
  16. Luckily there won't be any scrub teams from the AL central in the playoffs, between the Twins and Royals they are definitely the teams weak link (1-8 on the season so far). And we split 1-1 with Detroit.
  17. I hadn't either until 10 or so years ago when they emerged from whatever hole they had crawled into for 20 or so years.
  18. He could call Reds games and complain that other players should try to walk more.
  19. In regards to the individual games I would agree that the run estimation from the ump scorecard is not the be all and end all for how much impact there would have been if we rewind the tape and replay the game with a robot ump. But because there are so many pitchers a pure run probability approach over a full season will give you some very good insights on the impact of umping.
  20. If San Diego hadn't just completely collapsed the last 2 weeks I'd agree this could be a crushing loss, but I think that having caught one team for a playoff spot relieves a lot of the tension. They might still talk about trying for the division, but there is a consolation to make it not seem nearly so dire.
