  1. Oddly enough learning new technology is one of the least enjoyable parts of teaching for me. Continually engaging with my subject areas is pretty fun, and I generally have a nice mix 15 years in of parts that are easy to deliver in the classroom, and new frontiers to explore. Tech rarely makes a significant difference in how well students understand. We've been somewhat successful in throttling back some of the obnoxious stuff (crazy evaluation rubrics, onerous student data generation), so that has helped the last few years. Competent bosses always seem like the biggest factor in my estimation in any job, and unfortunately that is far from a guarantee.
  2. I could see the Ohio State game being similar. Having to score a bunch, but mix a couple of turn overs in with 1 or 2 other defensive stops and maybe it's enough
  3. Yes!
  4. I am concerned we may be headed to OT
  5. Allen is rapidly ascending the pantheon of Badger running backs
  6. Apparently Nebraska thought borrowing the Packers special teams players would give them some real NFL talent and a chance. More positively great start Bucky!
  7. Many years as a fan and I had doubts we'd ever have anyone win it.
  8. Maybe we can lean on Dillion more going forward in the short yardage. I feel like we've stunk at short yardage since midway through the Amhan Green years.
  9. I'd argue that back-up QB on a good team is about the best gig out there. Rake in the 6 figure salary, your done for the most part taking the physical punishment. Up here in Viking country I can confirm even the whiff of the possibility that Love turns into a great QB drives 'em jealous beyond reason. I remember those other back-up QBs as well, so I keep it civil knowing it can indeed turn at any moment.
  10. I wish I had confidence in replay to do the right thing here
  11. For all the doom pre-game, the game so far is a lot closer to the Packers being up significantly than the other way. Cards really only have that 1 play, and the Packers have had offensive life even outside the long drive.
  12. I have unfortunately also encountered the HR attitude that CheezWhiz describes. I have helped do enough hiring that I do appreciate the amount of time it takes, but the way that evolves in certain HR circles toward being terrified of meritless employment lawsuits. I suspect the practical differences in how companies act are also heavily influenced by the average education level of their employees.
  13. So I can't say that I've observed a whole lot of evidence that proactive hiring is all that common. I'm thrilled someone still bothers to do it because it is very old school, but my son couldn't sniff an interview in the Twin Cities as an entry level programmer a couple of years ago. At best companies seem to run way too much through temp services, and this was true even after he gave up on programming and switched to other entry level work. I got more sympathetic to his plight when I tried my own hand at a mid-career switch. A lot of the same type of run around frankly. Corporate trainer positions with oddly specific needs being one example where a posting is so specific I don't look qualified (given the age range and diversity of subjects I've taught it's crazy). I looked at other entry level type office jobs, acknowledging my skill gap and managed 2 phone interviews in about 20 applications. The kicker though for me having no sympathy and just believing that most companies hiring practices are ridiculous was my sons recent experience. He transitioned to manufacturing, has a couple of years experience, and applying to jobs in central WI he only heard back from 1 in 5. At least the once company actually acted like they were desperate for workers and called him back less than 24 hours after applying. Maybe if you'd call people back you wouldn't need to offer signing bonuses. So yep ghost away!
  14. Detroit giving the Rams a game in the 4th quarter still.
  15. 9 OT later Penn state loses
  16. TDS was the only option I had for my cabin. I won't try and recount the entire process, but yes in general the customer service experience was not good. The actual local service guys were OK and cared but things were set-up in a very weird multitiered way. So it ended up taking 3 different appointments to actually get the service set-up. Since then it has been good generally the speed has been as advertised too. They were advertising a 3 year price guarantee and with some legwork I avoided getting stuck with one of their modems.
  17. When we had to switch agencies due to retirement. Our new agent actually was Jake from State Farm
  18. With a lighter glove it becomes obvious he was tagged, therefore I blame the Cardinals
  19. Well the Badgers have atleast discovered offense today.
  20. I think Adames has been hanging around Cain too long with that catch. Nothing, nothing then the glove just appears at the last moment
  21. I'm rooting for 18 innings, let the position players decide it.
  22. When I was in middle school in 1990 I picked an AFC team to route for, it was the Bills. I bet $8 dollars they'd win. Needless to say I'm generally with turborickey on this one. I've also never bet on a game since, and still don't trust kickers.
  23. I agree the unbalanced schedule isn't that much of a difference for fairness when compared to just having the unfairness of trying to win the division against a single strong team in the division is pretty minor. And I don't like too many low seeded teams winning championships in any sport so the 1 game wild card is perfect
