  1. Two words: RELISH TRAY !!
  2. Insomnia is bugging me. . .You'd think after 48 years, I would have learned not to drink Diet Pepsi and then Iced Tea so late at night. Dope.
  3. I just had my first and last McDonalds Angus Deluxe burger. I cannot believe how much grease there is in that thing. Plus the cheese AND mayo. . .AND fries. That's just poison.
  4. George Scott, Jim Slaton and Ben Oglivie have to be honored. Scott was the centerpiece of the team, he twice led the league in TB, once in HR and RBI. He won the Gold Glove every year he was in Milwaukee. And he's still alive. He's in failing health, he needs a walker to get around, and he's opinionated and likely to stay something cringeworthy--but he's still around and he might not be for too much longer. Slaton leads the franchise in wins, games started, innings pitched, and shutouts--and in most of the bad stats, too. He's thrown more pitches than any guy in the 40 year history of the franchise. Oglivie lead the league in HR once, he's in the top 10 in franchise history in H, R, TB, 2B, HR & BB. And he was a regular on 6-straight winning teams. I don't think Slaton or Oglivie have the health issues that Scott has, so they could be honored in the future--but there's also no reason to wait on them. And that's a great call by Messiah on Al Simmons.
  5. The guy has played in 810 games in the majors with a sub .300 OBP and a sub .400 SLG, and defense that is somewhere between terrible and mediocre. And he's slow. It would be dumb to expect this guy to be anything but bad.
  6. We just finished a couple of fun filled hours playing Wheel of Fortune. My daughter is 6 1/2, and it's a little advanced for her, both in content and spelling. But she still likes dressing up her Mii characters and unlocking different unlockables. I see her growing into it over the next couple of years.
  7. He is a terrific guy. . .one of the best people in baseball history. Get Well Soon, Killer!
  8. We like the Scooby Doo games. Spongebob Boating Bash is fun. Looking forward to giving Epic Mickey a try.
  9. To me a relish tray must include the essentials: Pitted Black Olives Small Pimento Stuffed Olives Small Sweet Pickles Small Dill Pickles Then you can do more. . .Greek Olive Mix, Pickled Beets, Cocktail Onions, Giardinera Pepper Mix, Sun Dried Tomatoes marinated in olive oil. . . It should be served on a divided tray, with each category in its own little compartment. To me, if you show up with that, you'll have met any social obligations where you are required to provide a relish tray.
  10. He was really an awesome guy. Sure, he was full of bluster and had an opinion on everything, but he had such an interesting and remarkable life. I saw him at an Indians Spring Training game about 6 years ago. He was in his mid 80s, dressed in full uniform, playing catch with a catcher. He was throwing for about half an hour, still throwing hard enough to make the glove pop. He was a MLB star at 17, a WWII hero, and he became a Hall of Famer 48 years ago! Farewell Bob, you were quite a guy.
  11. I don't know how anyone can listen to that guy for more than a minute. He's awesomely entertaining when this kind of stuff happens. Sadly, Francesa is off today, so we didn't get the great rant that I was hoping for. He is definitely a pompous know-it-all, but when things don't go the Yankees' way, and when he thinks there was something they could have done to prevent it, he rips them up and down. I love how he's so lacking in self-awareness that he continues to mispronounce Roy Oswalt's last name. He is the only one in the world who thinks it sounds like "Ahswalt". Get past the frustrating anger part of listening to the show and settle in for some blustering, entitled Yankee talk. It's great humor. Some of the best stuff is when he gets Brian Cashman on for some of Cashman's cliche-laden Yankee corporate speak, where he talks about players as inventory. That's awesome.
  12. Mike Francesa is appointment viewing/listening today. I can't wait to hear him on the Yankee failure and how this wouldn't have happened if George were still around. He'll tie this in with the Jeter insult and how they're printing money with the YES contract and the $2000 seats at the new stadium. It will be Yuge.
  13. By mid-June, he'll be known as Sour Melk. Hiyooooooo. . . . .
  14. If I were a Royals fan, I think I'd have to come up with another summertime activity.
  15. I'm watching the Hot Stove show on the MLB Network, and Chris Rose seems like the biggest tool. He's nearly 40, but he's still got the little flip haircut like he did on the show with Tom Arnold. He's always trying to yuk it up with whomever he's interviewing, and he never listens to their response. He's always smirking, I hate Chris Rose. Put him and Kevin Millar on the same set and I have to turn it off.
  16. Gillick is the only one from the group to get in.
  17. I love Jon Heyman. He's my new Gammons. I dislike Ken Rosenthal. He's my new Rosenthal. And 7 years at $23 million per, for a guy who hasn't taken an at bat in the AL? That seems very risky--and if that is the market price for Fielder, then I would guess he'll be a Brewer all year and we'll take the draft picks.
  18. It was fun/frustrating to tune in to Cubs games to listen to him and his homer calls. I hate the Cubs, so the things that brought him despair would bring me glee--and vice versa. But I admire his passion for his team, and I REALLY admire how he continued to work even as his body was failing him. He could have given up years ago, but he kept plugging along. Not sure if he's a Hall of Famer. But he seemed like a decent guy and a hero in his battles against his ailments.
  19. My father-in-law bought a styrofoam cooler and packaged dry ice just so he could ship 18 pints of ice cream from New Jersey back to Wisconsin. He packed it himself, did the research on when would be the optimum time to drop off the frozen package at the shipper, and then was sure to be back home in Wis when the package arrived. There were a few ice crystals in the ice cream containers, but otherwise, it was a successful project. The ice cream was from Halo Farms in Trenton/Lawrenceville. . . Anyway, there's testament to shipping dairy product along long distances. I think you'd have to do it in the winter, and I don't know if it would work if you did it from coast-to-coast, but he had a successful result.
  20. Yanks fans will be fine with standing pat on their original offer. . .until he starts meeting with other clubs. If there is any real chance that he could sign with the Giants or others, they will go through the roof. The Yanks don't get outbid on anyone, and if they try to start being "frugal" with the face of the franchise, the fans will roar. It worked out with Bernie Williams because he didn't end up with any offers. It's all good until it's not--and the Yanks will never be able to explain how El Capitan signed with the Nationals for more than they were willing to spend.
  21. http://bbwaa.com/ http://baseballhall.org/news/voting-news/final-countdown The regular annual Hall of Fame ballot has been announced. . .Some compelling names on there. . . My ballot would include Roberto Alomar, Bert Blyleven, Barry Larkin & Lee Smith. More steroid era guys are going to start showing up on this list. . .McGwire, Palmeiro, Santiago, Walker, Bagwell, Juan Gonzalez. Not sure how we're ever going to be able to sort this out. I can't see how they're going to ignore so many of the big names.
  22. Strange. After they got burned on the longterm Helton deal, and with Mike Hampton in their history, I don't know why they feel the need to go for such a long deal.
  23. Secret Stadium Sauce. I forgot about airport rules and had two bottles confiscated last month.
  24. During the game this weekend at Wrigley Field between Northwestern and Illinois, both offenses will be going in the same direction over safety concerns that the football field doesn't really fit. Didn't they measure the field before booking the venue?
  25. I found myself reading JimH5's post and saying "only 40"?" Alright, admittedly, it does seem pretty absurd. I grew up in a house with a 25" console tv, and went to college with a "luxurious" 13" color set. So a 40" tv is a bigger number than many of us can imagine. But with that 16:9 ratio vs. the old 4:3, the 40 inch display is more a matter of being "wider" than it is "bigger". And thanks to pitchleague, logan3825 & Invader3K for the new knowledge on HDMI cables. I surely overspent at Best Buy.
