  1. A lot of lives are impacted by unexpected events such as Chase’s blister and the 18-inning game. This is why 2-3 spots need to be reserved for players with no long-term role in the organization.
  2. It’s possible Michael Tonkin will be added to the staff today. It seemed like his turn to pitch in San Antonio yesterday. Perhaps he was flying to Milwaukee, just in case.
  3. We all thought last year’s playoff experience would immensely help Burnes, Woodruff, and Peralta. Is it possible that the letdown of going from pitching late in tight games in packed houses with the World Series on the line to pitching early in empty houses in April gave them the false sense that they could light up on their focus a little bit? It might be like what happens when closers enter the game in non-save situations. Hopefully Burnes’ performance late in a tie game will remind him of the focus that’s always needed and get him back on track.
  4. Barnes will be optioned tonight. Perhaps Taylor Williams will he recalled. Houser three 5 innings on Monday so likely won’t be an option.
  5. Hader is now known as 2TO.
  6. How many of the AAA and AA relievers could the Brewers feasibly bring up given the 40-man roster situation? Obviously Taylor Williams could be brought back and Houser could be moved to the bullpen. I assume with the younger guys you don’t want to put them on the 40-man too early, limiting flexibility for moves. For older guys (Jackson, Tonkin, others), it might make sense if, e.g., Wilson continues to struggle.
  7. Somehow they have the worst hitters, pitchers, and coaches in baseball and still are above .500 against the strongest schedule in MLB (blue). http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/rpi
  8. Hopefully his .220 BABIP improves.
  9. The advanced metrics for pulling Guerra for a pinch hitter with 2 outs and 1 on is probably not in favor of that move.
  10. Santana is leading the AL in RBI and somehow is still a zero WAR player. Villar is part of the trade the Brewers likely regret. Jorge Lopez appears useful. The rest of the players could likely be reacquired by the Brewers for cheap, if the team even wanted them back.
  11. It feels like this has been discussed before, but can Taylor hold up defensively full time in center field?
  12. Cobb just gave up back-to-back-to-back home runs in the first inning and has an ERA of 12.60. Great opportunity to buy low!
  13. Brewers are still #2 in ESPN’s power index due to its strength of schedule. http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/rpi Check back in July after the schedule gets more favorable.
  14. The entire 31-point swing happened during the bottom of the 7th. Seriously, it did.
  15. Chase had an ERA under 4 and a WHIP under 1.2 last year - and couldn’t crack the postseason rotation. This year that stat line is good enough for ace status.
  16. 20 out of the past 29 Brewer games have been against the Dodgers and Cardinals. There have been some tough moments, but wow, what a way to end last season and begin this season. Incredible performances in front of full houses at Miller Park while many teams struggle to draw 20,000 a game.
  17. As soon as he starts locating his fastball, he’ll be back.
