  1. Gio could fill Suter's role at least until Brent returns.
  2. The 7 spot is perfect for a low OBP, otherwise quality hitter. Higher up in the order and the low OBP is a problem.
  3. Rare pitcher that has given up more home runs than walks.
  4. Latest odds have 9 of the 13 most likely World Series champions coming from the NL (with the Brewers tied for 9th overall and tied for 5th in the NL). It's going to be a wild year, especially in the NL Central and NL East. https://www.oddsshark.com/mlb/mlb-odds-world-series-futures
  5. Zobrist scores 18 points in Scrabble. However, if you start the word 2 slots on top of the triple word score slot, you’re setting your opponent up for 30+ points. The Brewers do need to consider whether the possibilities for the competition more than offset the return for themselves.
  6. The Brewers are projected to have fewer wins than the Twins but are 4 times more likely to win the World Series. That tells you about the impact of difference in quality between the NL Central and most other divisions.
  7. The projections on the Fangraphs site show Arcia as being a below average defender.
  8. Stokes has been someone I've been high on for a while. The guy can draw walks. He first looked like another coming of Brady Clark, with doubles power, OBP skills, and some speed, but the power boost in 2017 - and which repeated in 2018 has me wondering if he isn't a poor man's Christian Yelich. Question I have about Stokes and Ray: if they are unable to hit above .250 and are unable to keep their Ks under 140 at AAA, will they ever be given a shot at a role in Milwaukee? Also, if Tyrone Taylor is inferior to those two in every area, except he Ks at half the rate of Stokes and Ray, where does that place him in Stearns' pecking order?
  9. If they wanted a guy like Harrison, wouldn't they have just held on to Schoop?
  10. Charting win probabilities by game, an 87-win season could likely involve being 22-26, a .463 winning percentage, after the May 19 game.
  11. 46 of the Brewers’ first 49 games are against teams projected to have winning records by Caesar’s.
  12. The beauty of this “all-in” move is that it doesn’t lessen the chances of the Brewers competing in 2020 and going forward.
  13. Is Taylor remotely close to the quality of fielder that Broxton is?
  14. Keon can look forward to getting a standing O in his return to Miller Park. Fans appreciated his enthusiasm and scaling-the-wall catches.
  15. If a player on another team’s 40-man is acquired through a trade, that player automatically is placed on the 40-man of the acquiring team, correct?
  16. An interesting Dozier stat is that his subpar 2018 season can be nearly fully explained by his falling apart against LHP. Against lefties his OPS fell from 1.057 in 2017 to .643 in 2018. His OPS against RHP was fairly close to his career average. With the Cubs having 3-4 left-handed starters, a Dozier signing would need to include faith that his 2018 vs. LHP was a fluke or fixable.
  17. Dozier was horrendous at the plate last year, but I agree that he's likely enough to bounce back that a 1-year deal makes sense. His worst season involves a higher OBP than an average Schoop season does. He's also a decent defender and would likely hit 25 HR at Miller Park. Plus, his top 2 similarity scores (overall and age-based) are Rickie Weeks and Jose Valentin!
  18. Vegas odds are less reliable/accurate than projection systems from Fangraphs, 538, BR, etc. Vegas prices things to get equal action on both sides and adjusts odds to limit exposure, not necessarily project what is most likely to happen. Looks like you have an easy path to becoming rich!
  19. Vegas has the Brewers in the top third of MLB for 2019 World Series odds. That translates to around 88 wins. Note that the Brewers were 6th favorite before other teams made significant additions.
  20. Stearns traded 1/3 of the farm system for the MVP and another 1/3 of the system for acquisitions that helped the Brewers have the best record in the league and host game 7 of the NLCS. I don't think our GM has a problem with pulling the trigger. If he goes berserk trading the last 1/3 going all in on 2019 and the Cubs and Cardinals each catch fire and win 98 games, it could be a significant setback for the organization.
  21. Let’s say the Pirates and Reds each go 76-86 and the Cubs go 92-72. That’s a combined .500 record, and it’s a lot of games the Brewers and Cardinals need to make up against out of division opponents to each finish with 90 wins.
  22. Really nice player, but the D Backs would demand too much in return, and he wouldn't have a long-term positional home.
  23. Gamel's 2nd through 4th similarity scores on baseball-reference.com are: Paulo Orlando, Bombo Rivera, and Bevo LeBourveau. Those might be the three greatest names in baseball history.
