  1. I'm going to pound a beer every time: 1. Betancourt swings at the first pitch, and a terrible pitch at that.2. McGehee pulls an outside pitch to the shortstop.3. Kotsay hits a weak grounder to 2nd.4. A 2nd baseman gets to a ball on the shortstop side of second base that Betancourt doesn't even make an attempt at. I might not be able to stand up by the 8th inning of most games.
  2. What the heck was Braun swinging at, leading off the inning, taking a weak hack at a very low and away pitch and bouncing out to 2nd? That's just a lack of focus.
  3. How many times this season have the Brewers hit a deep fly ball, where if it was hit a few feet left or right it would have been 10 feet over the fence?
  4. McGehee couldn't have handled that rundown any worse. Why the heck would he throw the ball to 2nd base when the baserunner isn't even close to the base and hasn't even turned his back yet? If my pee wee team third baseman butchered it that bad I'd sit him the next inning.
  5. The last week of 2008 all over again! Now we need Prince to get a walk-off.
  6. Boston is 2-9 in September, just got swept convincingly by Tampa Bay and now leads the Rays by only 3 1/2 games in the wildcard race. What seemed like a foregone conclusion since about mid May is now in doubt. The Rays play at Fenway next weekend. The Yankees haven't been playing much better. They just snapped a 4-game losing streak today and have uncertainty in their rotation behind CC.
  7. This looks very good to me, but then again you could have put "8. Chair, SS" and I would think it would look good. Chair wouldn't throw the ball away, wouldn't swing at bad pitches, wouldn't hit a pop up with guys in scoring position, and with a gust of wind may actually dive to its right.
  8. Time to bring up Gamel. NOW. There were two opportunities begging for a left-handed power threat in just the 2nd game after the infamous announcement that Dillard is the only call-up.
  9. It's a good thing Mat Gamel isn't available to pinch hit for Yuni. Might want to re-think that move, Doug.
  10. Imagine if someone with a + .300 OBP pinch hit for McGehee or Betancourt and got on base to lead off the inning.
  11. Leading off the 8th inning against a right-handed pitcher after rosters have been expanded with 2 of the lowest OBP right-handed batters in the league. Brilliant!
  12. The most difficult part of playing 2nd base is turning the double play, and Green turned 12 in 26 games in AAA this year - so he's capable of doing it.
  13. Green had 99 chances at 2B this year in the minors and made 1 error, for a .990 fielding percentage. He also played 2nd base full time in rookie ball.
  14. The Brewers can score against the Phillies because the Phillies' pitchers are so stubborn that they'll actually pitch to Braun and Fielder.
  15. Can they teach Rickie how to play shortstop between now and the end of the season? Shortstop puts much less strain on an ankle than second base since you tend to move toward first with both fielding the ball and the throw. Rickie has much more range than Yuni. There's just that minor thing that it typically takes years to learn to play short. But would the entire package of Rickie in the lineup and at short be any worse than Yuni?
  16. It's got to be about chemistry. The chemistry seems to be at an all-time high now. If you have too many guys sitting on the bench not playing (and murmuring that they should be playing), it can be a negative.
  17. It's funny that this thread turned a discussion of Eldred. In my mind I was comparing the reluctance to bring up Green to the '92 reluctance to bring up Eldred. The half of season of Ron Robinson and Bruce Ruffin starts cost the team, which was outstanding in 1992, a chance at a deep run in the playoffs.
  18. Maybe I'm getting greedy, but I'd like to see Green hit against some lefty pitchers. McGehee's average against lefties is now under .175. Green seemed to do ok against lefties in the minors. Why get into a kid's head that he can't hit lefties. Give him a shot.
  19. If it makes you feel better, after the Brewers / Yankees day game this year, it took nearly 3 hours just to get out of the Bronx after the game.
  20. Violation of team rules: not trying to pull an outside pitch. Bench him.
  21. The good thing about this stretch is that without it, K-Rod's and Axford's arms would have fallen off from overuse.
  22. I'm done watching this offense until Weeks comes back or Roenicke is fired. Because those are the only two things that will move McGehee and Betancourt from the 5 and 6 spots in the order.
  23. RRR gave McGehee the green light because he knows the guy behind him in the order wouldn't get the job done. That's the only reason why he gets the green light there. Hey, RRR: IF YOU DIDN'T BAT BETANCOURT 6TH THEN WE'D HAVE BASES LOADED AND ONE OUT! THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T BAT YOUR WORST HITTER 6TH.
