  1. A chair would not swing at a low, outside breaking pitch on the first pitch following a 5-pitch walk.
  2. Roenicke might be worried that a rookie playing well and taking a veteran's job would hurt team chemistry. I honestly believe he's worried about this.
  3. Braun's catch may have been as impressive as his catch in Philly in April.
  4. People realize that players have weaknesses that offset their strengths. Prince is a bad fielder and a slow baserunner, but he makes up for it 100 times over with his brilliant offensive performance. I'm still trying to figure out what Betancourt's strength is that offsets everything he's weak at.
  5. Does Roenicke realize that a hall of fame manager, in the middle of a World Series championship year, gave a certain rookie 47 at bats in 1981? Somehow team chemistry wasn't ruined and Earth continued to rotate on its axis.
  6. D'Backs are only 4 games back. Hopefully we're not looking at Roenicke's boneheaded decision tonight as the reason we're facing Halladay in Philly on October 1 instead of facing the Braves at Miller Park.
  7. This is obviously a sign of how well the Brewers have been playing, but it's also a concern. How much juice is Axford going to have left in October if he's pitching everyday late in the season? Axford had nothing on the mound today (Sunday against the Cubs). For comparison, and I realize the age difference, Mariano Rivera hasn't pitched three consecutive days since 2009. The Yankees baby him late in the season, and he rewards them by being dominant in the post-season. In the early 90's Dan Plesac was just like Axford, a young, dominating, power closer. Then the Brewers won 10 games in a row in 1988, Plesac pitched in most of those games, and his arm was never the same. Axford is a huge part of this team's future. For this reason, in days like Sunday (following Axford pitching his 2nd straight day), I would use Saito, Loe, or Hawkins as the setup guy and then use K-Rod as the closer. It would be less devastating to the franchise to blow out K-Rod's arm than Axford's. With a 10 1/2 game lead, Roenicke can afford to do this. Hopefully when we get to September, this type of planning occurs.
  8. Ryne Sandberg transitioned from 3rd base to 2nd base cold turkey after the beginning of his major league career. There are also many utility guys who play both positions well.
  9. Green is thinking, "I've been blocked by this guy?"
  10. Yuni has got to be bumped down from the 6 spot. Put Hairston there. Put anyone there.
  11. Anything to get Yuni B out of the 6 spot.
  12. I may have been the only one, but I was convinced he was the PTBNL. Good news.
  13. I see the score the guy from 3rd success list and see no correlation between that list and how good a team is. This team relies on big innings. If their power hitters choked up and hit grounders to short every time guys were in scoring position, the Brewers would score around 3 runs a game.
  14. The morning of July 21, 2011, we saw these standings in the morning paper:1. Pittsburgh, 51-44, -2. Milwaukee, 52-46, 0.5 GB3. St. Louis, 50-46, 1.5 GB4. Cincinnati, 47-50, 5 GB One month later we go to bed with these standings:1. Milwaukee, 76-52, -2. St. Louis, 67-60, 8.5 GB3. Cincinnati, 62-65, 13.5 GB4. Pittsburgh, 59-66, 15.5 GB The Pirates have lost 16 games on the Brewers in a month, but what's almost more unbelievable is that the Cardinals and Reds have actually played slightly better this past month than up through July 21 and have lost 7.5 and 8.5 games, respectively in the standings. I've wondered what it would be like to go on an incredible hot streak like the 2002 A's and 2007 Rockies. Now we're witnessing this type of historic stretch in Milwaukee.
  15. I remember the night the '87 Brewers lost their 12th straight game. That night sucked. Actually, it didn't suck because that same night Sidney Moncrief bodyslammed Danny Ainge into the front row of seats at the MECCA in game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. 16. Players within the organization on August 31 can be on the playoff roster. It doesn't matter if they're in the minors on that date. A player acquired from another organization after August 31 is ineligible.
  17. I was confused why Beane thought it was ok to draft a fat catcher but wouldn't draft Prince because he was fat.
  18. First Sosa and now Zambrano. The Cubs tend to have a tough time having their players stick around for a full game.
  19. Wow. Massive eruption. Incredible.
  20. 19 walks in 19 MLB innings. Have Marco warming up in the bullpen at the first sign of wildness.
  21. While I don't doubt this, I have failed to find a quote of this in any post game write ups, and I am not finding video or audio of any post game interview where in the Mr. LaRussa has stated these things. Do you have a link, as I'm sure I would find it to be humorous reading/viewing.I saw him saying this on video on Baseball Tonight on ESPN.
  22. Now LaRussa is saying that tonight's 1st base umpire may hold a grudge against the Cardinals when he's the home plate umpire tomorrow night.
  23. The decade of the 2000's featured the introduction of several MLB starters and stars coming up through the Brewer organization, including Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, JJ Hardy, Ryan Braun, Corey Hart, and Bill Hall. The Brewers have won and are continuing to win with most of these guys as the core group. The 2010's will likely feature the following in significant MLB roles: C: Lucroy, 1B: Gamel, 2B: Lawrie, 3B: Green, SS: Escobar, OF: Gindl, OF: Schafer, OF: Cain. Throw in Brantley and LaPorta, too. Of course a few of these guys were dealt as centerpieces of blockbuster trades, but could this have been an everyday lineup that you could win with, in say, 2014? I say there is a little less quality but it may be made up for with more quantity with this second wave of prospects.
  24. He's been on fire since Rickie Weeks got injured, which has been absolutely huge.
  25. Looking at the Reds forum, Bill Schroeder could run for mayor of Cincinnati right now and probably win.
