True but I don't think anyone seriously considered them "contenders". Everything had to play out perfectly for last year to end up in a playoff berth. And beyond 2015 there were serious question marks given the status of the farm system.
So you like the White Sox model? They sign and/or trade for pricey free agents or trade prospects for established vets all the time. Hasn't really done much good since '05.
This year is the worst of it in terms of signing middling vets to fill gaps just to field a team. I think next year you start to see the long term prospects come up and then the year after that they start to take off. 2018 is a good projection for a competitive team but 2019 is more likely. Kind a funny that one year ago today the Brewers had pretty much no hope of a competitive team for the foreseeable future.
Gotta figure Gennett's days are numbered for no other reason than he just doesn't fit what Stearns wants in a player - flexibility. He is the opposite of that. He can really only play 2B against righties.
That roster is going to beat the 2019 Cubs who'll have Rizzo, Bryant, Schwarber, Heyward, Russell all still in their primes and no doubt some major arms they'll simply buy on the open market? Dream on! Those guys can't pitch.
Huh? 25-million Dollars? Are we in some sort of Bizarro-world? Please explain further... Poster is referring to Chris Davis who recently re-signed with the Orioles.
"There is no link between the controversy and the channel's closure, however. The investigative unit that produced the doping documentary will remain in operation."
Wonder what the issue was? Just that bad of luck or he just wasn't squaring up on anything at all. That is a terrible babip more ground balls, fewer line drives
Steamer is a little more optimistic predicting a .777 OPS (223/318/458) His BABIP was pretty bad last year (244) so I would imagine his average would be a bit better at the very least.
